Volume 1 - Chapter 9: Exploring Vale
——————————————————————————————
[Current location: Vale station]
A bullhead arrived at Vale Station. Many people left the vehicle as the bullhead stopped. Sora waited in his seat as he looked at the passengers left.
He had time, so he was in no hurry to wait and was the last person to leave the bullhead. He didn't wait too long as the crowd got thinner.
He stood up from his seat and went toward the exit door. He walked inside the station to enter the city.
He looked around him and saw many people outside having fun, shopping, running around, etc.
Sora took out his scroll for his goal. He needed wood planks for the bunk beds. He could buy a pre-made one, but it would be cheaper and better if he made one instead.
Sora had little money left in his pouch. He lived frugally in Vale for a month before coming to Beacon. He couldn't waste too much money anymore.
He would also look into the nearest botany shop in Vale. Maybe he could find useful plants for his alchemy. He could also look into the famous Dust of Remnant.
It could be a substitute for his potions or tools. He needed more information on them, anyway. He could afford some liens.
The scroll recommended a lot of place. Sora scratched his head in helplessness. He sighed and took the nearest one from his current location. He would start with the plants first and the building materials last.
He walked to the shop named "Green Life" near him. Sora entered inside and saw some customers inside. He looked around as a worker came to him.
The worker asked if he needed help. Sora simply asked for a guide for their products. The worker left him for a bit as they came with a book filled with information.
Sora thanked the worker as the worker left for a new customer. Sora went to a corner and read through the book.
He finished the book in 15 minutes. He saw many interesting herbs or fruits. They were mostly expensive for his current balance. Fortunately, he could afford some of them.
After a little conflict, he bought seeds and one specific plant. They were less pricey and more affordable in the long run. He could build his own greenhouse somewhere near Beacon or inside, depending of Ozpin attitude.
He took a bag out of his coat as he put his plant and seeds inside of it. Sora left the store with his bag to his next shop. He took out his scroll to a dust/ores.
The dust shop is pretty far from his current location. Fortunately, he didn't go for the wood material first. The weight is all right, but he really didn't want to carry it for the entire trip. Complaining won't change anything, so he might as well go for the dust/ores shop.
The street of Vale is really packed today, thought Sora as he looked around him. He wonders why, but thought little of it as he came nearer to the shop. He stopped in front of the door as he took his money pouch.
....
It got lighter by a lot. He really needed more money. When he goes back to the dorm, he would think about his money problem. He entered the shop and saw many people of his age and old people.
The shopkeeper greeted him as he saw Sora enter his shop. Sora greeted him back and looked at the products inside.
Sora remembered that the Alchemist's Crafting Bench was made with 20 white iron chunks.
He went toward the shopkeeper and asked if he had white iron chunks. The shopkeeper chuckled at Sora's question and left the shop toward the backroom, leaving him confused. He decided to wait because of that old man's weird reaction.
He didn't wait long as the old man came back with white iron chunks. Sora was stunned. He didn't actually expect to find this ore here. He asked to the shopkeeper in the first place to find the equivalent in Remnant.
Yet, he came back with the actual ore. Incredibly, Sora was thrilled by his finding. The shopkeeper saw Sora's surprised face and explained that he just received this week batch. He planned to put them on today, but got delayed by something.
Sora bought 24 chunks of white iron and one water dust and one fire dust. The shopkeeper put his order inside a box. Sora paid for his items and left the shop with sorrow. He's pouch got even lighter. He hoped he had enough for his primary goal.
Sora put purchase on the ground as he took out his scroll. He needed a shop near the station, if possible. He didn't want to walk with so much stuff on him all day long.
Luckily, there is one material shop near the station. He took his stuff with his back on top of the box and carried everything toward today's last shop. He was pretty far from the shop, so he would have to walk for a bit.
——————————————————————————————
Sora left the shop with even more stuff on him. He became broke from this single trip to Vale. He really needs a plan for his expense soon. Sora took out his scroll to check the current time. It was noon.
Sora was hungry from all this shopping. He couldn't afford to eat at a restaurant either. He took his stuff with him toward the food stall street. Sora saw many interesting foods on the way.
He stopped in front of a grilled fish stall. It looked superb with his current fund. He asked the owner for one piece. The owner smiled as he gave Sora his food and Sora paid for it. As he tried to leave the stall, he heard a childish voice beside him.
"Fish! Fish! Grilled fish! I want to eat one!" said a childish girl as she asked the owner.
"Of course, little girl, but do you have the money for it?" asked the owner gently.
"Hmph, of course, Klee has on her. Klee is a rich girl!" said Klee as she puffed chest with a proud face. The owner simply chuckled as he gave Klee her grilled fish. Klee paid for her fish and ate on the spot. Sora looked at the little girl beside him, a little intrigued.
The girl naturally noticed his gaze and she look up at Sora from her fish. She blinked her eyes in return. They were looking at each other in silence. He didn't think he would see Klee here in Remnant.
Klee looked the same as her counterpart from Teyvat. Klee is a small elf-like girl with pale skin and light red eyes.
She has pale blonde hair tied in pigtails with a prominent cowlick and elf ears. Klee wears a red coat with a darker red embellishment and keyhole shapes in the hem over a white dress and shorts, as well as a fluffy scarf with a pom-pom, gloves, knee socks, boots, and a brown messenger bag.
Attached to this bag is Dodoco, a furry, woodland animal-shaped pom-pom made by her mother. Klee wears a sizeable red newsboy cap with a pin featuring a clover insignia and two white feathers.
"Hi big brother, what's wrong?" asked Klee as she tilted her head in puzzlement. She didn't know why Sora stared at her. Sora didn't respond as he thought if she and Jean know each other.
Klee just blinked again as she waited for Sora's answer. As Sora opened his mouth to answer back, he heard a familiar voice coming from behind him.
"Klee! you better stand where you are!" said a woman as she ran toward Sora and Klee.
"AH! sister Jean, please hide me, big brother." exclaimed Klee as she hides behind Sora's body.
"Jean...? I wonder if it's the same Jean that I know." murmured Sora as he looked toward the voice.
Sure enough, Sora saw his beautiful leader coming toward them. Jean was stunned when she saw her partner as she looked for Klee. Sora simply smiled back as he saw Jean's reaction.
"AH! big brother, do you know Jean?" said Klee as she left her hiding place as she pointed her finger at Jean and Sora repeatedly.
"Hmm, indeed Klee, she is my team leader at Beacon." said Sora, as he patted Klee's head. She blinked at him as she lowered her head to eat her food. She took a big bite as she lifted her head back and looked at Jean.
"Who is she, Jean? Is she your sister?" said Sora as he took a bite of his fish. Jean composed herself back as she looked at Klee. Klee hides back behind Sora's body in response. Jean sighed in defeat as she explained Klee's origin.
Klee is the daughter of a friend that she met long ago. They became family when her mother, Alice, dropped Klee to Jean and her family. They became close sister together over the time. Jean also mentioned that Klee's mother is the author of the famous "Remnant Travel Guide".
Sora hummed in response and asked where Klee's mother went. Jean shakes her head in denial as she didn't also know where she was. All Jean knows is that Alice was an adventurer. Jean also described Alice as a rather free-spirited person who shows little restraint.
As Jean and Sora talked, she noticed the stuff near him. She was a little curious and asked why did he had so many stuff with him here.
Sora indulged in her curiosity by saying it was the material for the bunk bed and for his alchemy related stuff. Jean asked if he needed help to bring it back to Beacon, but he refused, as was going to leave soon.
Since, Jean and Klee just came to Vale. It would suck for Klee if she were to go back now. Sora finished his food and left them as they waved their good bye. Sora was on his way to the bullhead, but got stopped by Klee on his way.
"What's wrong, Klee?" asked Sora, as he looked at Klee in bewilderment. Klee gave Sora a big smile as she gave a Dodoco plushy. She ran back to Jean as she left Sora with some words.
"My gift for you, big brother Sora, let's meet again!!!" exclaimed Klee as Jean took her hand as they left the street.
Sora looked at their back and smiled gently.
"Looks like I got a new sister huh..." murmured Sora as he went toward the station with a smile.
