Chapter 631 [ Great Gruen Volcano - VI ]

Shizuku was slightly worried because the snake heads had multiplied. From 9 original heads, there were now at least 90, that meant that there were at least 10 of those lava creatures roaming around the cave.

Cloud quickly asked Shizuku to tell him which ones were the heads with cores, only to hear how none of them seemed to have a core inside.

"This is strange, why don't they have a core?" - Yue asked with a frown on her face as she was thinking at full speed - "Could it be that the guardians decided to hide their weak points in the magma? But if so, wouldn't that make the test impossible?"

Yue's questions seemed to have no answers, but none of that mattered now that the situation was much more critical than they had thought.

"Cloud, if you can upgrade the artifact so that my body can withstand the magma from the volcano, I might be able to take them all out with a single attack, although the power and volatity of my attack, might cause a volcanic eruption" - Tio said with a frown.

"There has to be another solution" - Cloud said as he looked closely at the snake heads, only to frown when he noticed that some of them had some sort of gem on their foreheads - "Tio, I want you to attack directly at the snakes that have rocks on their foreheads, I think I know what's going on."

Tio nodded skeptically as she followed her master's instructions. She let out a sigh of relief as she watched a group of snake heads dissolve after eliminating the main head, along with the appearance of a new mark on the central platform.

"As I thought, it's not that the test is impossible to complete, it's that the situation changed, now the magma lake we're in, is the central core of the guardian" - Cloud added while looking at his companions - "Shea, continue with your mission to protect Shizuku, Tio, Yue, you know what to do, eliminate all the snakes that have those strange rocks on their heads."

"Ok!" - Nodded the girls as they began to follow the blond's instructions.

Cloud for his part, kept attacking with his assault rifle as he moved between the pillars to distract as many of the beasts as possible.

"[Dragon Breath]!" - Tio exclaimed as she launched a powerful "fire" breath at the lava creatures, only to see many marks begin to light up on the huge central platform on the floor - "Master, I don't think I can launch as many attacks as this one!"

"Don't worry, keep attacking and I'll take care of the rest" - Cloud said seriously.

Tio nodded firmly as she again concentrated a huge amount of mana in her throat, then expelled it in a powerful attack that could be compared to the power of a bomb.

The heads again flew off in hundreds of pieces as they dissolved into the lake of lava, though to make matters worse, the more guardians they killed, the more heads came out to replace the ones that fell.

"Cloud, how sure are you that at 100 kills, they will stop appearing?" - Yue asked seriously because she could feel her concentration starting to weaken with all the heat she was feeling - "If they keep appearing after 100, then we'll be in big trouble."

"I can't assure you that they'll end after that number" - Cloud answered honestly as he continued attacking - "But there's no choice but to keep fighting until the time comes"

"If it stops, we win the bet, if not, then we have to go to the central platform" - nodded Tio as she looked towards the place she was talking, noticing how half of the marks had already been lit.

Cloud took a long breath, only to feel his lungs begin to burn from the powerful fire mana surrounding the site, though this damage was easily ignored.

"Ice Age!" - Yue exclaimed as a powerful icy aura shot out from her body and spread throughout the room.

Shea and Shizuku, felt the temperature drop to a bearable temperature.

Tio was surprised because she could see how part of the magma lake, began to solidify, although this small respite did not last long.

The lava creatures let out a high-pitched roar of fury as they focused their attention on Yue.

Cloud quickly jumped to the girl while using his elemental magic in order to block the attack that was headed her way.

Yue was starting to get dizzy from the heat, though this was because in order to use [Ice Age], she had had to use three times the normal amount of mana to be able to create the icy wave, all thanks to the omnipresent fire mana of the place.

Cloud jumped in front of the girl as she destroyed a few more creatures before looking at the girl with concern - "Are you okay?"

"I'm exhausted, and a little dizzy" - Yue replied with a frown. She didn't need to lie to Cloud, neither did she need to play tough, not when they were trying to pass the last test of this hot maze.

"You want some of my blood?" - Cloud asked, only to watch as the vampire girl walked over to him, and gave him a gentle nibble on his neck.

Shizuku blushed, though she quickly grasped the situation, after all, it wasn't uncommon for a vampire to suck blood.

Cloud gritted his teeth, not because it hurt, but because he could feel how much of his mana, was being drained by Yue.

"Roar!" - the roar of the lava beast was not long in coming as their heads snapped towards the two blondes.

"Seriously, it's rude to interrupt situations like this" - Cloud said as he fired relentlessly, completely ignoring the number of bullets he still had in the magazine.

Tio quickly went to Cloud's aid. She spread her wings and created a powerful gale in order to blow the attackers away - "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm a little weak, but nothing that a few seconds of rest won't cure" - Cloud replied as he felt Yue detach from his neck.

"Sorry" - apologized Yue as she averted her gaze.

"No, don't worry" - Cloud replied as he looked in the direction of the huge lava creatures - "Although now I'm thankful that the stairs are in this area because we only have to defend one side only."

"You have a point" - nodded Shizuku as she wiped the sweat from her forehead.

Shea remained silent, watching the surroundings closely to prevent a surprise attack.

"How are you doing, Tio?" - Cloud asked as he looked at the dragon girl.

"A bit exhausted, but don't worry, I'm strong enough to throw at least two more breaths" - answered Tio seriously.

"Ok" - nodded Cloud as he saw how there were 65 marks on the platform.

"ROAR!" - the roar of the beasts echoed in the room as the pillars began to shake.

"This pressure" - muttered Shizuku as she frowned.

"ROAR!" - the beasts again came out, but to the group's surprise, these were much larger and you could tell they were angry.

"How much damage do you think your breath does?" - Cloud asked as he looked at Tio.

"I don't know, though nothing that using more mana can't fix" - Tio replied as she prepared to attack.

"Wait!" - Cloud exclaimed as he stopped the black-haired woman - "Don't attack yet, it's possible those things will become more dangerous when we destroy these, so I want you to deliver the coup de grace!"

Tio was silent for a few seconds before nodding - "I understand, I'll accept the honor of finishing the battle, though if things get out of hand, I'll attack regardless of your instructions."

"I agree" - Cloud nodded as he took a huge breath before pulling out his Railgun. He quickly pressed a few buttons that were on the side of the weapon, only for after a few seconds, the sound of something clicking could be heard.

"What was that?" - Tio asked as she raised an eyebrow.

"I modified the ammunition in my gun" - Cloud answered seriously.

Tio was about to ask another question, when she noticed how the blonde winced. She slowly shifted her gaze and noticed how a strange tube came out of the gun and embedded itself directly into the blond's arm - "Cloud?"

"It's nothing" - Cloud replied as he gritted his teeth - "I'm simply using my blood as a catalyst."

Tio frowned when she heard this as she gave a glare at Yue, who only looked down. She was sure it was Yue's idea for him to use her blood as an enhancer for his weapon.

"Relax, this doesn't hurt me in the slightest" - Cloud replied with a calm smile, though the black-haired woman noticed how Cloud's face was a bit pale with all the blood he had lost - "You better cover your eyes because this will be strong.... Fire!"

Shizuku, Yue, and Shea, quickly closed their eyes.

Tio remained calm, though her pupils dilated as they watched as from the blond's weapon, a huge, powerful beam shot out, destroying all the beasts in its path.
