Chapter 503 ( Ryusuke - II )

20 minutes later, Ryusuke was breathing heavily as he made an effort to raise his arms and wipe off his sweat.

He had lost count of how many times he had been on the verge of losing consciousness after receiving so many blows.

Cloud for his part, was looking at him with a cold expression as he thought that maybe it's time to finally end it all.

"I never thought that I would end up in this state after fighting with a hunter, fate is a toxic mistress" - Ryusuke said wearily as he got back on his guard - "Although at the same time, it's exciting to know that someone like you exists."

Cloud didn't respond, he remained impassive as he watched Ryusuke's every move, as if he was trying to identify something about them.

"Thank you for fighting me for so long" - Ryusuke muttered as he fell to the ground unconscious, but before his mind went blank, he woke up thanks to feeling a sharp pain in his chest - "Ugh."

"Come on, don't be like that, you didn't give your victims a quick death" - Cloud said with a frown as he threw the middle-aged man towards the distance.

Ryusuke let out a groan of pain as his body bounced on the ground, only to look up with difficulty and notice how the blond was slowly walking in his direction.

It was there that he understood that his end would not be as honorable as he had hoped, but it wasn't as if he could blame his opponent when he had done similar things.

"I-I see," Ryusuke muttered as he prepared for his long and painful end, but his expression changed when he heard a female voice.

"Cloud, get it over with, there's no need to drag out the inevitable anymore" - cluck said with a frown.

Cloud gave her a blank look before sighing - "Fine, you win."

The blond quickly returned to his normal appearance.

He quickly summoned his spear and pierced his opponent's chest, giving him a quick death, only to sigh in annoyance that the battle was over too quickly.

Cloud slowly closed his eyes and made his shadow surround his opponent's corpse, only for it to be consumed with utmost ease.

Those present showed no reaction when they saw this because it wasn't the first time it had happened.

Cloud closed his eyes, but not before looking at his total HP and noticing how it had been reduced considerably during his battle.

Ryusuke's Nen ability had been more dangerous than he thought, more so when he just saw his remaining HP, but at least now he understood a little better how to use his new ability.

"I guess that would be all for now" - Kanzai muttered as he shook his head - "Meh, at least I got to fight some criminals, much better than being locked up in the base."

"It was an experience, interesting" - Gel added as she silently brooded.

"Well, we'd better search Ryusuke's belongings to find that item he stole" - cluck said boredly as she walked to where her birds had told her the makeshift camp of the man they had been chasing was, only to find a disheveled backpack.

Cloud looked around in search of a possible additional hiding place, which he found after sharpening his senses.

"I found what we were looking for!" - Kanzai exclaimed as he picked up a strange statuette, only to frown when he saw how the other blond had found something - "What's that?"

"Possibly Ryusuke's belongings" - Cloud answered while frowning as he saw how what he had found, was a bag with many objects, among them a list with names, and a picture of what seemed to be his family, only this picture was stained with dried blood.

"From what I heard, Ryusuke was a talented martial artist, arguably one of the best in his category, but one day, he went crazy" - said cluck while frowning . "From one moment to the next, he started attacking politicians and criminals, no matter where they were, until he was arrested, but the moment they managed to apprehend him, he escaped, killing all the officials who had gone to hold him. No one knew why he did that, but from what I can gather, those names have to do with the death of his family."

Gel took the list of names, and frowned because many of them had been labeled as corrupt politicians. This they had discovered during Ryusuke's investigation, which was ironic.

Cloud was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head, a criminal's past was none of his business, and while, it was quite possible that Ryusuke had been a victim of circumstance, that didn't change that he had eliminated and tortured many innocent people over the years.

"We'd better get back, this doesn't change anything" - Kanzai said with a frown as they retreated in silence, after all, their mission was finally over, and being honest, it had been a constant pain in the nether regions,

"I thought this world would be a bit more interesting, but I see things aren't as good as I thought" - Kyōka said boredly as she, and the other girls in Cloud's group, sat sipping a few drinks on one of the beaches of [Greed Island].

"I know, this seemed to have been created for [Two Star Hunters] at best" - replied Menchi as she was lying on a towel, sunbathing because that was all they could do at the moment.

"That happens because you guys decided to speed up the whole process" - said Kyoko with a frown as she watched as Shio, Sapphire, Mimi, Sora, and the strange doll, were playing in the sea.

Yes, you read that right, the doll was also playing in the sea, it seemed that an object they found on the island, had made the doll able to show its true identity.

[Elise, the cursed doll]

The doll possessed by the soul of Elise, its last owner. The little girl had had a life full of mistreatment, and met her end when she was murdered by her mother, who did not consider her as her daughter, since that time, Elise's soul has been locked in the doll, cursing anyone who touches her, especially women who hurt children.

"I still can't believe how someone can do that to a little girl" - Kyoko said as she watched the doll that had changed her appearance. She was no longer a disheveled and dirty doll, she now had the appearance of a little girl with braids that seemed to be made of gold because of their shine.

"Humanity has many facets, some that we do not wish to see" - Kyōka muttered while closing her eyes because honestly she too was disgusted with the actions of Elise's mother.

The little girl wasn't to blame for anything, but she was the one who suffered from her parents' actions.

"Let's better change the subject to one not so depressing" - Menchi said as she gained the attention of the two women - "At least now she has a "mother" who loves her and won't hurt her."

Kyoko blushed when she heard this as she felt a slight strangeness.

She was becoming the mother figure to many creatures of different races, such as Sapphire, who was an [Aragami] type [Harpy], Mimi and Sora, who were beasts with enormous intelligence, and now to Elise, the cursed doll with the soul of a girl inside.

"Congratulations on being the first to become a mother among us" - Kyōka said while letting out a laugh.

"But among our group is Yuriko-san and Ryōko-san" - replied Kyoko while raising an eyebrow.

"But they have children long before they joined the group" - Kyōka said while shrugging her shoulders, not caring much that one of those "women with daughters", was none other than her mother.

She wouldn't lie, she was still a little self-conscious about the idea of her mother being behind her lover, but there wasn't much she could do to stop it. Her mother had the right to move on with her life and start a relationship with whomever she wanted , and she had to support her.

"Doesn't it bother you?" - Kyoko asked curiously because she had seen Saya's attitude during the first few months when she found out about Cloud's relationship with her mother.

"A little, but it's not like it changes things much" - answered Kyōka after mulling over the answer for a while - "Everyone can do what they want with their lives, not counting that she has done more than enough for me."
