The single-eyed, silvery gem on Lu Yuan's forehead gleamed with a touch of gold.
Even Silver Dragon King Gu Yuena was momentarily captivated when she saw the eye. This eye, within the beast race, symbolized the supreme power of destiny.
The power represented by the Eye of Destiny, the mastery of elements embodied by the Silver Dragon King, and the extraordinarily robust physical form of the Golden Dragon King, collectively referred to as the three pillars of the beast clan. This eye epitomized the pinnacle of these three paths.
Although the eye before her differed from the memories of the past, Gu Yuena chose not to dwell on the issue of color. After all, the other eye was distinctly human. She studied the Eye of Destiny before her, her slender fingers tracing circles around it, deep in thought.
Lu Yuan found Gu Yuena's actions slightly unnerving. He wasn't a soul beast, so he couldn't ascertain whether her gestures were gestures of intimacy. Regardless of her intention, the outcome was his discomfort.
He leaned back slightly, distancing himself from Gu Yuena. The constant touch vanished, startling her momentarily. However, she quickly regained her composure, offering an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, I was engrossed in a matter of great importance just now. I may have overlooked your feelings," she explained.
While humans had their norms of politeness, he couldn't expect an elephant and an ant to communicate in the same way as ants do. The same held true for communicating with this human child.
However, the human before her was different. He was not just the heir chosen by the Ice and Fire Dragon King, but he also bore the Eye of Destiny. In terms of his standing, he was aligned with the beasts. But he was still human. His flesh and blood might be comprised of the essence of the two dragon kings, but it didn't change the fact that he was human.
Hence, after brief consideration, Gu Yuena officially bestowed this new species with a collective name: Dragonkin.
This name designated a new species recognized by the beasts. Their status equaled that of pure-blood dragons. A rare and precious breed, they could freely shift between human and dragon forms, their combat prowess matching that of pure-blood dragons. This trait set Dragonkin apart.
Although it might not sound very elegant, it was a collective name for an ethnic group after all.
Gu Yuena inquired calmly, "May I know your name?"
"Lu Yuan."
Lu Yuan concealed the Eye of Destiny on his forehead, lowering it beneath his skin. He replied nonchalantly.
Gu Yuena nodded, stepping forward once more to close the gap Lu Yuan had created earlier.
"Lu Yuan, you must have some knowledge of the incident back then," she said with a touch of guilt in her tone.
Lu Yuan's gaze flickered, and he responded by asking, "Are you referring to the circumstances of the Ice and Fire Dragon King's death?"
While she subtly acknowledged his inquiry, she didn't confirm nor deny it. Instead, she sidestepped the topic and began discussing another matter.
"I trust the eyes of those two, so there's no need to conceal certain things from you," Gu Yuena began. "I was severely injured, my vitality greatly depleted. Thus, I wish to use a portion of your strength to aid in my recovery."
This statement made Lu Yuan raise an eyebrow. Borrow his strength? If he understood correctly, even if he were to give her all his strength, it would be a mere drop in the ocean. Furthermore, his capabilities were confined to manipulating space; he wasn't well-versed in other elements.
His proficiency with water and fire elements was only possible due to the Ice and Fire Dragon King's guidance. If not for them, he likely wouldn't have even grasped these basic elements.
Gu Yuena controlled all the elements in the world, even though she required external aid to recover from her injuries, it was improbable that she'd need him specifically.
Confusion marked his expression as he questioned her motives.
Listening patiently, Gu Yuena sighed softly. "Why would I not know?" she responded. She then diverted the topic, revealing a conjecture that caught Lu Yuan off guard along with a logically grounded implementation plan.
"I'm not suggesting you lend me the power of your spatial manipulation," she clarified. "What I truly seek to borrow is the luck within your Eye of Destiny."
"Given that the power of most elements can't meet my requirements in terms of quality and quantity, I've opted for another highly potent power as a substitute. In this world, the only power that stands on par with my original power is the power of destiny."
Her logic was sound, but Lu Yuan furrowed his brows and thought for a moment before asking curiously, "Since they're both powers of destiny, why choose mine?"
It wasn't that he was unwilling to help, but the Eye of Destiny within the three-eyed golden lion was far more potent than his. Both in terms of purity and quantity, his Eye of Destiny was significantly inferior to that of the three-eyed golden lion.
Why would Gu Yuena want second-hand goods, yet ignore the prime offering from the three-eyed golden lion?
There had to be a reason why she favored second-hand over first-hand.
Gu Yuena rolled her eyes in exasperation, a tinge of helplessness evident in her expression as she asked, "How did you obtain the Eye of Destiny?"
"I touched the forehead of the three-eyed golden lion," Lu Yuan replied.
Gu Yuena sighed, choosing not to repeat herself. Instead, she directly stated, "That's because you are of a different kind from her. You are a human, and she is a beast. Do you think you could have obtained the Eye of Destiny just by touching foreheads if you were an beast? The Eye of Destiny was bestowed to you due to your human nature!"
"The reason is rooted in the fact that you're human and I'm a beast. The Eye of Destiny has already found a host," Gu Yuena continued. "Yes, you gained the Eye of Destiny by touching foreheads with the three-eyed golden lion. But ultimately, it's because you're human!"
"I am a beast, just like the three-eyed golden lion. As such, I can't derive any power from her through such a method!"
Gu Yuena's tone was resolute as she presented this cold, hard fact. Every conceivable method that Lu Yuan might have thought of, she had already pondered and attempted. However, none had succeeded thus far.
Back in her days as a Dragon God, she hadn't managed to usurp the power of fate from the three-eyed golden lion. Now, with her vitality greatly diminished, the possibility was even more remote.
The power of destiny differed from her elemental powers. As far as the first-generation three-eyed golden lion was concerned, it was a treasure held for eternity. Even if her offspring were newborns and lacked any cultivation, she, as a Dragon God, couldn't simply take it away.
This limitation had nothing to do with cultivation but rather the constraints of one's maximum strength.
Trying to avoid touching foreheads and instead having the three-eyed golden lion manipulate her luck to restore her vitality was a ludicrous proposition. It would be like tearing down one wall to mend another.
Utilizing the collective luck of all soul beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest to heal her wasn't a viable solution either. The Silver Dragon King, living in the Lake of Life, was indeed a soul beast.
Relying on the forest's meager luck could potentially lead to unforeseen consequences. The beast clan was already reduced to a handful of pure-blood dragons, with the nine dragon clans on the brink of extinction.
Of the top ten fierce beasts, the Hell Devil Dragon King, Zi Ji, despite being weaker than the nine dragons in terms of background and lineage, was the sole pure-blood dragon remaining. This illustrates the extent of the dragon clan's decline.
The Dragon's Decline was evident. Ordinary 100,000-year-old soul beasts typically relied on the power of luck to weather calamities. If this were taken away, the beast race might crumble under her rule.
Even if she managed to regain her cultivation, it would be futile without the support of a substantial number of soul beasts. The title of "Spirit Beast Co-Lord" would become an empty one without a multitude of soul beasts to sustain it.
