"On what day did you have to go to the hospital because you got sick?" Brian asked.

"I thought you'd have already guessed by now?" Emerald replied, tilting her head to the side with a skeptical look on her face.

"Was it the night before I brought Marlene home?" he asked and Emerald sighed.

"I remember calling you that night but you weren't picking up any of my calls. In fact, you went ahead to switch off your phone and I was no longer able to reach you and tell you that I was in the hospital. I know you're probably going to ask why I didn't tell you the next day but how was I supposed to mention something so serious to you when you were so busy dealing with your ex-girlfriend?" Emerald replied, trying not to sound upset because she wasn't.
