The Awakening

*THUD!*

AH! Ow, what the hell did I just hit my head on? It was as hard as a rock!

Oh man and now I'm swaying around? What happened? Where am I? Panic was setting into a tiny creature. 

Is this some sort of cage? Or a stone room? This... Is... Bad... Wait a second here! My hands... they feel... feathery for some reason... Ah that's right! This is the type of feather I used to write my assignments back in the Imperial Academy. But... Why do I feel like my... Did... Did I get transformed into a bird by some spell? Or is it something else? 

No, let's think clearly here about this... I was in the middle of a battle and...

~ Flashback ~

"High Magus Aven! The demons! They are..." A post aid came running into a fortress's high magus' office. 

These offices are always close enough to be reached within just a few seconds at most. So why does this aid look so exhausted? No matter. "Don't worry, I'll send them back to where they came from with my magic. I may not be as strong as my master. But there is nothing to fear from just some demon rabble. A combination High Spell ought to be enough." I said, with confidence. 

*Whoosh*

I see, that is indeed a lot of demons... How did they acquire such numbers enmasse like this? Even... I... might be a bit out of my league without a partner here. But I can't really go and make myself look like a fool now that I spoke so confidently.

Magic surged around the High Magus Aven as he began casting his High Magic. The demons below noticed the High Magic instantly. 

What's the difference between a Magus and a High Magus? Simple, one thing and one thing only... High Magic. The most powerful magic below legion class. And is the highest a regular person can learn. I've hit my limit then huh... "Rolling Thunder & Scorching Flames!" The Magic fired off without issue. 

And then... BOOM Click

"High Magus Aven... or, the little commoner bastard from the Imperial Academy. Ahahaha!" A voice rang out as a large hole appeared in Aven's torso. 

"The armaments... No, you actually went that route..." Aven stuttered in shock. Only holding onto consciousness due to his massive stores of mana. 

"Ahahaha! That's right! With this weapon even I, a level 20 pencil pusher can take down even a High Magus like yourself. You haughty bastards are all being slaughtered by the Armaments Firearms Squadrons as I speak. This is the wave of the future! And with it, All the Human Race can fight with almost no training! DEATH TO THE DEMONS AND DEATH TO MAGIC!" Aven's Murderer laughed maniacally, as Aven fell from the wall of the fortress. 

In the distance a regal looking demon sitting upon his stead, looked at Aven with a look of shock...

I can read his lips from here? He is saying... "Did they just kill their own mage? Troops, when we take this place, claim that human's body. We will give it a proper burial." 

Aven smiled...

Nah that can't be it. The demons are a ruthless barbaric race, right? Oh well, it's the end for me anyways. The world is bound to die now. Firearms are a forbidden weapon of the ancient era... Chaos is going to ensue... Unless... How did...

Ah damn it! My head hurts so bad. Is this the phantom pain from when I fell on my head?

No, that's not it... but never mind that, I must figure out what's going on with me now. It seems I was reincarnated as some kind of bird... I wonder if Status Magic still works? Status open!

Not that it would be difficult to recover anyways... The reason being... I am now a Tori... 

A Bird Monster. They are pathetically weak but... If one follows the right evolutionary path... heh heh... 

Wait... Monsters... they don't procreate normally do they? I think it's some sort of thing where they don't need others' help? 

That means... not only am I not human, I'm also no longer a man either....

Eh What do I care about it! Not like I had anyone gunning for me anyways... This just streamlines the process. Muhahahaha! 

Now then... What is up with these new skills... hmmm... I suppose I'll have to break out of this egg soon to try them out. 

In the meantime, I'll just casually gain every skill I can think of for a bird monster to have. Oh, I should get Extreme Magical Resistance soon... Actually, I can train that skill up normally! Because I can use magic. 

Tiny flicker, Tiny thunder, Etc... 

Hmm, it seems this might be a bit harder than I thought... Magic this small is easy to use in tight spaces like the egg, even still... It's not very effective...

But I should have expected as much as this... it's not like magic that takes no Mana to cast would do much of anything. But... hmm, I'll try to do multiple spells at once... 

~ Several Days Later ~

Wahahaha! I have finally gained another skill! Parallel thought!

Man that was WAY easier as a monster than as a human... Kinda don't want to go back now even if I could...

Wait, hold on? Am I... Moving? What's going on!? 

I know I'm not crazy, I just felt this egg I'm in accelerate at a rapid speed... I need to find a way to see what's going on... Oh right! Magic sense... How could I, Aven, a High Magus be this stupid... 

Alright Magic Sense activate... Oh wow, it doesn't sap any mana either... Must be intrinsic to monsters... Now that is scary!
