Welcome To The Jungle

Welcome to the Fucking Jungle

Chapter 2 continued....

I watched silently as one of the Kaji team threw a fireball into the rushing waterfall only to have it fizzle out. The other three sat on large boulders with their backs toward the falls. Not fearing an attack from that side of the river. They counted on the strength of the current to protect them. That was a mistake. My dragons stirred on my arms tightening and untightening.

I was crouched up in the highest tree waiting and listening.

"This is boring as hell. Why do we have to wait again?" The not so bright team member of Kaji. Who by the name Inferno complained. Inferno stood up, pacing back and forth, running his large hands over his close-shaved head. Kai, aka Blaze, the leader of the team, sighed, reaching a hand up to play with the red tips of his Mohawk. An elbow, resting on the top of his bouncing knee.

"Dude, did you not hear the speakers earlier? They chose freaking Hyenas. I could never understand why; they are not even indigenous to this land. The one good thing we know; Hyenas don't stay around the waters. Being near water is our safest bet. We wait here, and once we receive word of the other team's location from Team Tierra, we attack. We haven't heard from them yet, which is why we are still waiting." Inferno sighed loudly.

"Why don't we just attack now?" He pushed out his lips, pouting slightly.

Blaze blinked over in Inferno's direction. Tiny flames were beginning to form at the tips of his fingers. He glanced down at them before shaking them out. "Because Team Acqua would annihilate us before we even got the chance. You dimwitted pack Gow. We can't keep losing to the water team before we even get the chance to get to the other teams. We have to be smart about this, Inferno." Blaze pointed toward a boulder. "Now, sit down. That pacing you are doing has me all anxious, and being anxious makes my head itch." Inferno sat down, putting his chin in the palm of his hand, all the while still pouting.

"Oh, get over it, Inferno. We are all tired of waiting, but the difference between you and us. Is that we choose not to voice it." Pyre, the only girl on the team, chimed in.

She sat on a large gray boulder. Her hands stationed behind her back, holding her up as she crossed her, out-stretched legs at the ankle. Her hand stretched up to pull at the collar of her sweat-soaked shirt. She fluffed it out slightly, probably trying to pick up a cool breeze. The bangs of her yellow and red hair were plastered against her forehead from the sweat pouring down it. Using the heel of her hand, she swiped at it, huffing out a breath. "And for the love of the fire god, Flame, stop throwing fireballs at that damn waterfall."

Flame, a guy with solid, curly, red hair, paused in his attempt to throw another fireball. He snuffed out the fireball by crushing it in his hand, muttering. He pushed his hand in the pockets of his pants made from the same fabric as ours. Except, his were a bright shade of red representing his team's color. I put a hand against the tree, leaning forward slightly. I scanned the ground with my eyes for the last member of the team. He was crouched down in the bushes underneath me. I watched as he ran his long fingers over his very large sword. Whispering words in a weird voice. He was the only member of the team whose hair wasn't colored some shade of red or yellow. His dark brown hair was cut short. It reached just below his neckline. His broad back, facing toward the tree I hid in. Perfect. I applied pressure to the head of my dragons. The heat they created pierced through the fabric of my sleeves. They wriggled against my skin, waiting for me to melt them. A loud noise sounded off from the distance. Creating tremors that reached even our location. The ground vibrated and shook before resting. The faux jungle was completely silent. A few members on team Kaji stood straight up, unsheathing their weapons. "Was that the signal?" Inferno asked, jumping up. He unsheathed his ginormous ax flicking his wrists as he twirled it.

"No." Blaze unsheathed his swift blade sword. "I don't know what the hell that was."

Blaze's eyes squinted in the direction the sound came from. The guy under me stirred the leaves as he stepped away from his hiding place. I shook my head. Stupid. Blaze did a double-take as he watched the last member of his team walk over to them.

"Torch, What the blazing fires are you doing, mate? Get back to your…" Before Blaze could finish that sentence, he was sent flying in the air. He landed face-first on the ground. Debris of patched dirt flew everywhere. His body slid through the ground creating a trench. I cringed a little. Ouchy. Inferno stared wide-eyed after Blaze. "Holy shit! Blaze! Are you okay?" Blaze didn't answer. He just laid limp in the furrow his body created with his butt high in the air. The team leader is out for the count. I could just hear the announcers now. Team Turbo came bursting out of the leaves, screaming and blasting air at team Kaji. I relaxed enough to dangle my legs over the branch in the trees. With a smirk, I observed from above as they fought. My chance wasn't lost. I just had to wade it out. "Forget about him. Focus on the new threat." Pyre ordered. She didn't hesitate. She sucked in a breath before exhaling flames. Pyre was the main reason why we were here. She was the only Bio-human with the genetic defect to create flames and eject them from her mouth. It was a unique abnormality that Fire bio-humans could never achieve, until now. A wind tornado blocked her mouth flames. The hair on my body stood at attention as electricity sizzled through the leaves of the tree I rested on. The blue electricity frizzled next to me, spreading. Forming an outline of a female body. Zaylee crouched low next to me before her skin slowly returned. Her pale skin had electric currents sparking here and there, but other than, that she was back to normal. Well, as ordinary as someone with naturally blue hair could be. I looked away from Zaylee, returning my gaze to the ground. I watched as the guy with the swift blade sword attacked another member of the other team. Blaze shot fireballs galore. We ducked at the same time when one of the fireballs came sputtering through the leaves. Almost hitting us. Zaylee and I exchanged looks before slowly turning to inspect the damage. The smell of burning wood filling our nostrils. The place the fireball hit was now, a black charred mess. It was still smoking as Zaylee turned to me wide-eyed. I looked away, blowing out a leaf that caught fire. We planned to spread off and lure the other five teams to this one position. When we finished, we would all rendezvous in the tree, I was in now. The tree should have been a safe enough distance away from the battle, but not too far; we couldn't engage when we needed to. My job was to make sure Team Kaji never left their position, which was what I did. Zaylee oversaw the luring of Team Turbo. She let out a load of curses over the link. Her grip on the tree tightened enough that her knuckles bleached white. "I'm going to break that Inferno kid's hand if I get my ass set on fire again." The image of Zaylee being set on fire last time came into my head. Her flailing arms and her repeatedly screaming it burns was a sight for sore eyes. I smashed my lips together, fighting the urge to laugh. Instead, I returned to viewing the battle below us. Another blasting sound came, but it was coming from a different direction this time. The sound of an unsheathing dagger had me glancing away from the fight below. Zaylee twirled a dagger in her hand as she stared past my left shoulder. Ready to launch it if push came to shove. She visibly relaxed when Masha uncloaked herself. Her white serpentine eyes locking on me. She sat down on my left side after nudging it. Masha was finished with her job. Just when the fight below couldn't get any louder. Team Acqua came running across the river. Water shot everywhere as they let loose. Screams and the yelling of orders became chaotic. Team Acqua got into a V information. They drew from the river. Large water droplets rose in the air. The water built on top of itself, creating a giant wall. They all yelled in unison, launching their water wall at the other two teams. The wall splashed to the ground with no effect as a large rock wall blocked it. Team Tierra had arrived. Rocks started to lift from the ground. As a member of Tierra launched an attack. Team Acqua broke formation, launching random attacks. Everything was beginning to become chaotic. Masha gripped my arm, her eyes staring wide at the bushes below us. It didn't seem possible, but things were about to get worse. Cackling like laughter filled the bushes below us. The hyenas had arrived. They yipped and snapped before bursting through the bushes. Hyenas came from every direction, attacking each group.

Hi everyone! Man, this part was action packed. What did everyone think? Let me know in the comments. I hope everyone is doing okay. Stay bio-safe
