Possible Companion

"What do you mean by a breakthrough, and why are you so casual about it? Did you see the power you displayed?" Adam looked at her with a frustrated expression while speaking. "There are a few people in the world who can achieve a breakthrough in their power when faced with life-threatening situations. However, it is possible to achieve a breakthrough with pure efforts alone. Those people's breakthroughs are of a much higher caliber than others however they are rare as you may be able to work for it your entire life but never achieve it."

Adam listened to her explanation with a serious look on his face before asking, " Is that how the paragons got so strong?" Carmilla looked at him with a grim look on her face before saying, "Humans can only reach a breakthrough when they cross the 700-year mark, the paragons have been alive for less, however, I fear that they may reach that point soon."

Adam looked at her with a shocked expression. "So you mean to tell me that they can become stronger!?" Carmilla nodded before turning her gaze toward the items on the table. "We can't do much about it though so let's focus on these items." Adam sighed before looking back to the table once more.

"I think you should take most things here seeing as how you took down the sloth all by yourself." She nodded before taking the earrings and the daggers. As she put the earrings on, the temperature suddenly plummeted and she turned pink from the cold. She quickly removed them but the room was still cold. Adam too seemed to be fazed but not as much as she was so he tried putting them on before realizing that he wasn't pierced so couldn't put them on.

He was lost at what to do before he conjured a thin needle, the size of the earrings before he pierced himself and put the earrings on. He immediately tried controlling and regulating the temperature but didn't know how to so he took Carmilla out of the house before attempting to control the earrings.

It took him some time before he was able to, but what was peculiar was that the entire time he had the earrings on, his hair didn't turn silver but remained brown instead. Whenever he exerts a certain amount of power, his hair turns silver but when wearing the earrings his hair doesn't change color despite how much he uses however he suspects that it merely reduces the physical drain on him and increases control.

He called Carmilla back into the house before explaining what the earrings can do, but they suspect that they haven't grasped the full extent of its power. Carmilla then took the ring before she felt a sort of connection allowing her to realize that it was a storage ring. They both turned to observe the egg. The egg was not small but not big either. It was the size of a 1-liter bottle. "So what do you think is inside the egg?" Adam shook his head in uncertainty at Carmilla's question.

She continued to observe the egg before walking to her room bringing out a small notebook and handing it to Adam. "The earrings gave you better control right, try writing on this notebook without a feather." Adam looked at her confused before asking how. "Use your ice to write on the paper just like branding letters on a cow, just practice on something else before the book. Paper is expensive you know, let alone an entire book."

"Why exactly should I do that" "To note down some of our discoveries so that we can document them later for future use and maybe for our descendants to use." Adam nodded at her suggestion before quipping with a smirk on his face, "You suggested something that makes sense for once, also, are you implying that we are gonna have children together?" Carmilla tried to suppress the blush creeping her way to her cheeks but was unable to.

"You always say the dumbest things, anyway, regarding the egg, who is gonna take care of whatever comes out of it," Carmilla asked while staring at the egg's yellow-spotted appearance. "We'll see who it would prefer to be around more but before that, we will take turns observing it each day. Could be a possible companion."

"I hope it's something cute like a ghoul or hound." Adam stared at her before sighing and going to the back of the hut to practice his writing on any large stone he could find.
