Chapter 27 -- Horde

Laura had been teaching at Abbadon Junior Academy for the past 40 years. Even though she had the aspect of a woman in her mid twenties, she was actually 65 years old. When a Cultivator reaches the second rank, he or she can stop the aging process as long as said Cultivator keeps advancing and getting stronger.

If a Cultivator stops training at rank two, he or she will die of old age at around two hundred years old if they are not killed. A Cultivator gets 100 years of life everytime he or she experiences a breakthrough. So Laura already had 300 years of life saved up while she is only 65. A normal human can never reach 100 years old.

Laura knew a breakthrough when she saw one, and what she just saw was definitely a fire elemental breakthrough. 'No it can't be them that's impossible..... right ?' Laura thought 'But what if .....'

"Commander Laura is everything okay ?" Laura was snapped out of her thoughts by Mia's concerned voice.

"Everything is fine Mia, I just need to go check out what caused those lights over there, stay here I will be back soon" Laura said, her feet already leaving the ground as she prepared to fly.

"Laura, I am coming with you" Linda stated with clear determination in her eyes.

"Linda I don't think...."

"Miss Laura please, if that's what i think it is then i need to be there" she articulated with clear resolve.

Laura sighed "Just try to keep up "

She said before shooting into the air, pushing dust and loose debris away and prompting the rest of team to cover their eyes , except for Linda as she also shot up after Laura although at a much slower speed.

When the wind Cultivator duo had disappeared in the distance, Michael looked behind him was met with the eyes of the girls, looking at him in expectation.

"Soo...uhh you guys wanna get something to eat ?"

Cultivators in the third rank and above could easily fly as their bodies could naturally defy the laws of gravity for some reason. Linda however was still in the first rank so her body could not naturally fly. In order to replicate the act of flying she created a thin layer of wind on which she stood, while at the same time shooting high pressure air behind her in order to be propelled forward.

This method of flying was the same one Adam was trying to accomplish just the day before at the bus stop. I took a large amount of 'Force' for rank one Cultivators to do this, but it was easier for wind Cultivators because wind was naturally a flying element.

Linda gritted her teeth as she tried her best to keep up with Laura but it was no use as her teacher was just too fast. She was just about to give up when she felt a gust of wind envelope her and carry her forward at a speed she could not reach on her own.

"Thanks" she managed to say to Laura, who was now flying above her.

After three minutes of flying, Laura and Linda finally arrived at the source of the flame pillars. What they saw there confirmed Laura's suspicions, she could not believe her eyes as she saw the two boys radiating rank two auras.

"What happened to them is Lex okay ?"Linda shouted concerned. She didn't even wait for Laura's answer as she forcefully ripped the wind that was keeping her in the air.

Linda dived towards the ground high speed, her target being Lex's unconscious body. Laura was worried after witnessing the speed she was descending at. 'At that speed she could kill them both ' she thought. However she was relieved when she saw how Linda used her wind to slow herself down enough.

Linda landed on the ground with a big thud , she was unhurt though as she used her 'Force' infused legs to soften the impact.

"Lex are you okay, say something" she cried, frantically shaking him, with the hope that he would regain consciousness. However no matter how much she screamed, Lex just wouldn't wake up. Linda calmed down after feeling his heartbeat, serving as confirmation that he was still alive.

Suddenly, heavy footsteps where heard behind Linda and she looked up to see a what could only be described as a collosal beast. It was 8 meters tall with a large ears and thick black skin. It looked just like an African Elephant just black, and bigger.

Unlike a certain unconscious someone, Linda did not hesitate to inspect the enemy. As she saw the rank of the beast she was prepared to carry Lex's body and flee, but that was unnecessary as a gust of wind cleaved the beast into two. That sight reminded Linda of how Michael's desk was cut in two that fateful day.

A moment later Laura violently landed on the ground next to Adam to check his condition since Linda seemed to be solely focused on Lex.

"There is a horde of beasts on their way to this position, we need to leave now!." Laura said to Linda as she picked up Adam's body.

"Carry your boyfriend and lets get out of here"

"He's not my boyfriend "Linda shouted with her face turning red from embarrassment.

Laura and Linda took off into the sky, a bit slower this time around as they had 'luggage'. Linda had put Lex on her back and was holding his arms like a backpack. Laura however had surrounded Adam with the same gust of wind that she used on Linda.

As they slowly flew back to the village, Linda noticed the beasts Laura warned her about. They where beasts of all shapes and sizes, although the dominant species in that horde was the earth lion. Linda saw the elephant like beasts, snakes , tigers, wolves, virtually any kind of beast you may find in that part of the continent was there. All heading to where they found Lex and Adam.

Linda shuddered at the thought of what would have happened if those beasts had caught them, even with a rank 3 Cultivator she didn't think they would survive. 'If we had not come, Lex ....and Adam would have died' that thought terrified her even more.

"Laura what caused this ?, what are these beasts looking for ?"Linda asked, even though she sort of already knew the answer.

"I will tell you later when these two knuckleheads are awake. I would say you guys are overdue a lesson anyway" Laura said as they descended towards Rion.
