“I thought I might see you again, dear.”
I take a few steps closer to the woman I saw in the alley before the Moon Goddess Ball, the one who gave me the dress. It’s difficult to see her face in the dim light of the moon’s beams, but I realize now I’ve seen her more recently than that. The entire situation baffles my mind. “I don’t understand,” I tell her as I get closer. “Who are you really?”
She takes a deep breath, and somehow her smile grows even wider. “I am whoever you need me to be, dear. I am your guide. Your fairy godmother if you want to believe in such things. Whenever you need me, I’m there. You didn’t truly need me to give you that gown, though I must say you looked stunning in it. But you needed me to help you with Alpha Kradick, so I was there for you.”
“But he knew you. He made it seem like you’d been there forever. You mentioned my grandmother and your daughter.”
