Shadow slave: In The Eye of The Beholder

In the cluttered and putrid place of the outskirts, a man lay in one of the many alleyways. A tiredness overtook him as the nightmare spell began its work, pulling him away from this world and its troubles. Another death sentence on his frail form, already stricken by sickness long before. His desires, hopes, and aspirations left unfulfilled, destined to vanish like smoke before the eternal rest ahead. His cloudy grey eyes gazed up towards the lights beyond his reach—the more fortunate, living and existing without worry, enjoying the life that was thrust upon them. He cursed his existence, his place, a mere bump in the road of destiny, a single thread in the vast weave of fate. For a moment, the drowsiness lifted, replaced by determination that filled his broken body. He would make them know—not just of him, but of all the people forgotten in the rubble known as the outskirts. With one final proclamation, the spell took him. Who knew how far his desire would take him? _________________________________________________________________ "With every flap of a butterfly's wings it affects the wind surrounding it, tornados can be made in its wake from just coincidence. and with a swarm of these delicate creatures. even the earth can shake."-Thicc-potato_6372 (2024)

In The Eye of The Beholder(chap19) Debt and Destiny

Silas found something awakening inside him. with a stifled cry, he clutched his chest and peered into the darkness, the feeling was not painful, like the fits of agony his sickness had brought him, it felt like his soul was being reforged, the sparks of fire bringing pain, but followed by the relief and bizarre feeling of being tempered.

Strange energy that seemed dormant in his soul were jolted awake, coming together and forming, finally assuming its true form.

The energy filled every fibre of his being. Silas felt his emotions becoming clearer, the mess of feelings being sharpen, the contrast between the emotions being sharpened. until the splashes had their outline.

His body began to change along with his emotions, deep wells of warmth erupted from his chest, as if a fire had been lit in his heart, or something deeper, his very soul seemed to be ablaze, the heat radiating out, reaching through the flesh of the body, filling the heat, fingertip to fingertip

Under that heat, his bones, muscles, organs and blood vessels were being rebuilt and revitalized. Silas felt like he was being reborn. He was becoming stronger, faster, and finally healthier, it was as if the illness stuck to him for all those years where being slowly scraped away.

It was euphoric.

With each second, his transformation was becoming more profound. New confidence settled in Silas. He was not a weak, frail street kid anymore, not some sick kid with a death wish, with this kind of power, his dreams did not feel so distant.

With the power to see the golden string again, and the will he had proven in his first nightmare, he was finally ready to walk on his own two feet, and dive into the ambition that had consumed his thoughts for years straight.

After some time had passed, the burning pulse in his chest finally cooled down. The heat was replaced with a soothing coldness. That coldness washed over Silas, the feeling dread and forever affliction from his disease fade, the horrid scraping feeling on his through vanishing, the aches and bruises releasing there hold, clearing to show pale smooth skin.

The cool feeling travelled up and entered Silas irises.

His vision seemed to double,

He could still see the void populated by an endless pattern of stars. But he could also see something different.

A deep dark and oppressive maroon sea surged around him, though a sea, each time the waves moved around him, there shapes, textures, patterns and forms constantly shifted, from water to sand, sand to mist that flowed into solid crushing waves, that then burned away, the smoke evaporating before forming into the water once again.

Silas continued to stare as the driven sea of concepts stirred, it looped over and over, breaking against the new and forming into the old, sometimes bizarre things emerged out of the waves, to then once again melt into the loop of the sea, hands reaching up to the sky, eyes that stared at him through the tempest until they dissolved, or Srange shapes that he simply failed to understand.

The maroon ocean seemed illuminated by a dim light, a colossal sun lay over his head, the rays welcoming yet disturbing, he felt as if he could simply rest under the rays for the rest of eternity, under its light, the rest of the places earth offered him seemed so small and off-putting in comparison.

'Is this what a soul sea is?' Silas guessed brimming with sombre curiosity, it was so bizarre, he didn't think that his soul would be so different to what people had described. it was a constant revolution against any concepts that formed, being destroyed over and over again, an endless loop of change.

He felt warmth as he activated his evolved aspect, [Beholders Eye], colour exploded out of his irises akin to paint splashes, his pupils sharpened and contorted into a pitch-black hexagon, as the familiar golden strings appeared in his vision.

In the sea of maroon, it seemed every single object that made the current had a fate that would make them submerge into the depths and arise again, the golden strings followed the oceans currents, ahead by half a second. it seemed that each and every object or concept in the abstract sea did not dissolve or evaporate but was constantly shifting with another that took its place.

The entire sea was just an illusion of change, nothing new or unique was forming, it was predictable and concrete, a facade of ever containing growth was ever stagnant.

He continued to stare into the facade, before the voice of the spell spoke once again.

[Awakening Aspect Ability…]

Silas stood for a second confused, he continued to stare at the stinges before pointing to his own otherworldly eye.

'Wait isn't being able to see the strings my ability? is there something else?

apparently, there was.

He read the runes with intrigue, looking at the golden strings that flew in current with the maroon ocean, he silently walked to the edges of solid land, crouching down on the oblique flooring and reached his hand into the maroon ocean, attempting to brush some of the golden strings.

His hand reaches the water of concepts, the textures constantly switching from one another on his finger, the experience made him want to immediate rip his hand from the current, yet he let more of his hand sink in, and brushed the golden strings.

It took some effort but the string bent and moved from his finger, he pushed deeper despite the panic of his nerves. his hand catching strings and shifted them away, they still followed there original pathing, but due to Silas's actions, there was a bump in the road on there fated path.

eventually the ocean caught up to his altered fate, the waves shifting until the water that Silas had shifted the strings from become void, a space that sunk down until it rested at a lower level, he had made the ocean slightly part. though with each spiral of the current, more golden strings took its place, ready to continue the predestined flow.

Silas observed the sea, emotions of wonder brimming out from him, what things could he achieve which such an ability, if he changed the fate of a person, would they notice it? how far could he manipulate them, and what limits could he reach for.

His thoughts been cut as the spell continued, as if trying to sombre the enjoyment he had received.

[All power has a price.]

[You have received a Flaw.]

'don't be bad, don't be bad, DONT!'

[Your Flaw is: oathbound conscientious].

Flaw Description: In defying your fate, you have accumulated debts that demand repayment. you are tied to the people who have enabled you to live your pitiful defiance, compelling you to repay their favours The more significant the debt, the stronger the compulsion.

[Debts]

[Azell - ██████░░░░] - 60%

[Beholder - ███░░░░░░] - 30%

The flaw in all seemed not horrible, yet it gave the feeling of quickly evolving into a horrible weakness if left untended, but something else caught his attention.

Azell.

Silas seemed bored his eyes into the runes, his mind blanking as he read the familiar name.

Scarlet, the images of the violet eyed girl flooded his mind, one after another his emotions seemed to burst with answers, his focus shifting in and out, constantly re reading the runes his emotions in a frenzy.

"Azell, AZELL! She's alive! She's alive! No, that can't be; she should have died! But if she was dead, how would I repay my debt? God dammit, spell, ANSWER ME!"

He screamed at the silent maroon seas and into the cosmos above him.

No answer came. The spell simply spoke again.

[Wake up, Weaver of Rebellion.]

The maroon sea spun into nothingness and disappeared.

The feeling of his body back on the cold ground returned to him.

His mind was still anchored on the revelation of Azell's continued life. He felt down in the dumps, yet at the same time, the happiest he had ever been in his pitiful existence. He would have loved to dwell on it more, but his attention was being pulled elsewhere.

He not only felt the dirty concrete texture ruminating on his skin but also the sensation of hands tapping his face.

Still shaken from the revelation, he stubbornly opened his eyes.

In front of him, and now suddenly gripping onto his cheek, was simply the most stunning woman he had ever seen, even rivalling the sane terror.

She had dark brown curly hair tied into a simple ponytail.

The colour of her eyes was blocked by a pair of polarized sunglasses. Her beautiful face was aloof and nonchalant. The sleeves of casual coat. were rolled up, revealing toned forearms and a solid tattoo that turned one of them completely black.

Her pale lips parted into a grin as she gripped his cheek and pulled, shaking off the drowsiness assaulting Silas, before speaking.

"Wakey wakey kid." She chanted cheerfully.

Silas could only gaze into the dark glasses, attempting to avoid looking anywhere else, the presence she seemed to emanate was dominating, finally managing to squeak out a response.

'Who, who are you?!?'.
