The magic awakening test doubles as a qualifier for magic academies, the more special an individual’s magic is, the higher chance they have of making it into the greatest academy on the continent, Amiere Academy. That is where the plot truly unfolds and is the same place where all the catalysts for Corlissa’s death are situated.
Though this time, it appears that even Evie has some of her own free will since she is also not following the script as she should be, there are some cases where she didn’t follow the script to the finest detail. However, those moments that she did not follow the script were when she displayed further malicious intent but that may have been them wanting to ‘spice’ things up.
Nonetheless, I still have to move forward, always a step ahead of the plot in order to not lose my life to mere petty jealousy.
Even though I say that...I really don’t like Evie Luxiere, I mean REALLY dislike! There is no exact reason that I can pinpoint, in fact, there is no reason that I should dislike her. Maybe it’s the brainwashing still in effect slightly at the back of my mind. Although there is no logical, scientifically reinforced hypothesis I can create using true facts that explains my blatant animosity towards Evie.
Possibly, her character as a white lotus is what irks me, but I still have to move forward.
After the magic awakening test, I was sent to the inner hall of the Holy Temple, Belzarhina, to basically become a guinea pig for this weird abstract dude. He seemed awfully excited to find out that there was a magic that had yet to be discovered, I may have just been sold to my death.
I understand the sentiment but who gets this excited over magic, I can vividly picture the stars gleaming around him and I’m quite sure I had mentioned this before...WHY ARE ALL THE MALES HERE SO HANDSOME?!
I apologise for my vulgar exclamation, that was unbecoming for myself. Anyways, aside from...that...the male that had been oddly enthusiastic about magic was the current Grand Mage, Eliot Demetrius, the youngest person in history to gain the title of Grand Mage at the young age of 26. This is quite a feat since most of the prior Grand Mages were only able to gain enough power in the later quartile of their life, for Sir Eliot to have been able to cultivate enough prowess to become the Grand Mage truly meant that he was a genius in his own aspect.
Unbeknownst to the public, however, is the fact that the current regal respectable Grand Mage happens to have a strange infatuation or rather affection towards magic. When the results of my test had reached his knowledge, I was immediately called into the inner hall which is the base of the mage tower, though I was required to ascend several flights of stairs in order to reach the study of the Grand Mage which was situated at the apex of the mage tower.
There was an escort who had announced my arrival on my behalf so there was no need for me to raise my voice or knock on the door, but I wish I was warned before he opened the door so I could at least be mentally prepared for his immediate reaction.
The Grand Mage seemed quite prim and serious in the beginning but the moment the escort closed the door, his personality simply flipped. He became quite energetic and eager to know more about the results of the test since the file he was given was merely a brief report on the colours displayed and the results shown on the crystal orb.
“Nice to meet you, I am the Grand Mage Eliot Demetrius...so I have heard that your results from the magic affinity test are quite the rarity. There is three right? I hope you can show it to me! I even prepared a special room so you can display your magic without having to worry about any damage that may be caused!” he exclaimed with similar energy levels as my father, which is quite a feat, to be honest.
Though at the start, I was quite taken aback by his irregular response and struggled to respond right away all my worries quickly washed away due to his welcoming nature.
“Thank you for the generosity of preparing a room, though my magic results are a bit different from what was written in the report that was given to you. There are 3 known affinities, however, I am in possession of 4, the other one is unknown.”
“Ah! Even better! To finally be able to witness the magic that has yet to be recorded in the history of this world, it is such an honour and blessing!” he energetically expressed with a facial expression reminiscent of a child seeing candy for the first time.
“Anyways let’s not waste any more time, I am itching to see such a phenomenon. I never would’ve expected such an event to occur within my meagre lifespan!” he announced before proceeding to open a door locked with a magic seal which was able to be unlocked after he poured some of his mana into it.
After we entered he began questioning if I had any experience using magic to which I responded no. I now have to attempt to draw out and create a small ‘sample’ of magic which displays the characteristics of the magic. To be more specific we are aiming for a condensed ball of magic enough to materialise in order for the features to be visible to the eye, despite how simple it may sound it is easier said than done.
For a person with no prior experience with mana, it is difficult to conjure a magic and control it to materialise into the pure element of the magic, for example, people who first try use ice magic are more likely to create snow than a pure chunk of ice, in some conditions, the ice formed melts the moment it is exposed and creates small water particles.
We first began with the already known magics and went from the most common to the rarest, thus meaning that I had to start with water magic first.
“From the results, I can tell that you have a high mana capacity so unfortunately, it would be too risky to ask of you to use all the mana you can which is what children are commonly instructed to do since it is the easiest way to conjure magic. I’m going to have to ask you to do your best to form a sphere of magic and try to limit your magic to this room though it may be difficult since this is your first time doing this but don’t worry too much, I’m here to help contain it if it does get out of hand,” he instructed.
“Understood.”
I raised my hand perpendicular to my body and thus parallel to the ground and imagined the flow of mana throughout my body to focus on pushing the mana out to my fingertips. Then I visualised the expended becoming water to make sure that I didn’t need to constantly supply the ball of water with mana to sustain it, I ensured that it would be able to draw water from the water vapour in the air.
“W-what...this is...AMAZING, I don’t know how this is possible but you have a bright future ahead of you, Corlissa Veronique,” he said which caused me to open my eyes, what I saw was certainly quite...astounding to say the least. Just a few centimetres away from my hand was a mass of water, completely still and contained, not a single drop of water was misplaced in the formation of the perfect sphere.
This was a definite sign of talent, pure true natural talent that only appears once in a blue moon. It seems Corlissa’s future is not looking as bleak anymore.
