Old Gauntlets

Timold ran over to Jax and started pushing him from behind towards the back of the shop. Many players started crowding around him as well but were met with glares from the old dwarf. The crowd eventually dispersed, probably to tell their "young masters" about the guy who was friendly with the blacksmith from the beginner town.

"Thank the heavens that's over. I thought they would never leave." Timold wiped the nonexistent sweat from his forehead and stopped pushing Jax.

"Hmm? Who are you?" Timold turned to Succie with a frown, making the girl well up with tears again.

"She's with me," was all Jax said. "By the way, do you have any weapons that improve mana, magic, and attack that isn't a magic staff?"

The dwarf raised an eyebrow and looked at Jax to try and figure out why he wanted something like that, but gave up after seeing his poker face. He sighed, "probably, but it will be expensive kid." He began walking to the back room with the Uncommon items and began searching for something within the piles of items.

Jax went over and grabbed the cooldown flintlock, as that is what he mainly came for. It took a while, but the dwarf eventually pulled out two giant metal fists. "This is one of the best items I've got with what yer lookin' for but these ones are too old. I'll make ya new ones, but it'll be a few days. If yer in a rush, I'll let ya borrow them as thanks for dispersing the crowd. Give 'em back when the new ones are done and if ya break it, ya buy it."

He handed the weapon to Jax. They were definitely heavy but that meant they would pack a punch when fighting. They reminded him of a certain video game character with the roman numeral 6 as their name.

[Old Gauntlets (Uncommon) - A long outdated form of gauntlets made by the Master Blacksmith Timold Stonehammer]

[Attack - +35]

[Magic Power - +35]

'Master Blacksmith huh?' Jax thought. He thought it was a typical scenario in games where a strong NPC stayed in the beginner areas for peace and quiet or some bullshit. Not that he cared.

"They don't help increase yer mana but they used to pack a punch back in the day. We dwarves have long since improved on these models but it is nice to have a keepsake or two from my younger years." Timold reminisced as he went to an adjacent room that housed numerous types of metals and tools.

Jax assumed it was a warehouse for his materials and maybe the furnace was outside. Different ores and bars of metal sparkled illuminating the dimly lit room. Jax looked around a bit while Succie was gawking at the weapons in the other room still completely ignorant of the fact that she will now have to act like a tank.

"How much do you think it'll be?" Jax inquired but got an answer quickly.

"Expensive, now be quiet. Let me think." Timold held his head in his hand as he went around the room examining his bars of metal. He would grab a few every once in a while and toss them behind him into a small metal bucket.

His level was definitely high, as he easily made buckets with every bar or ore he threw like it was nothing. After a few minutes, he finished and went to a table to draw something down.

"It'll at least be 15 silver, maybe upwards of 25 or 30 if ya want somethin' good. Go have a date or somethin' and leave me be, it'll be ready in a few days." Timold shooed him away and Jax grimaced at the word 'date.'

'With her? No way' He'd rather go on a date with Derek or Kyle. Jax left his silver for the pistol on another table before leaving and Succie trailing behind him like a little duckling. After that, he went over to the apothecary, where an elderly woman welcomed players in to buy potions.

The only two they sold were Health and Mana potions, both of which restored a fixed amount for the player. Potions were expensive though, as they each cost 50 copper for one bottle with each restoring only 20hp or mp. People had to buy in bulk once they got to higher levels as they started gaining more health and mana.

Jax ended up buying 10 each. 5 health potions for him and Succie, and Succie could keep the mana potions. She had a high amount and figured she used quite a bit for spells and such. Succie had sparkles in her eyes and went for a hug only to be met with a kick to the stomach.

Since they were in the same party, it didn't count as combat so he wouldn't get punished by the system, but other players glared at him for hitting such a beauty. They left the shop and made their way back to the dungeon. It took a while since she was so slow, but it gave him the chance to tell her his plan.

"From what I've seen so far from your stats and such, you seem like a fighter tank, or a berserker if you were to use terms from other games. I don't know if that is a class here, but I'm sure they would have something similar. It might be different for you since you also use magic it seems, but for now, we will make you a type of fighter mage."

She seemed interested, as she did her head tilt again and Jax continued, "You will be on the frontline, but I won't be too far behind. You will use your magic from close range and also normal attacks since you have high attack damage as well. You need to be careful though since your health is awful for a tank, you're gonna need to learn how to dodge correctly. It would've been nice if you had some speed added from your armor set but I will lend you my boots for now."

Jax had taken off his speed boots he got from the wolf a while ago and instead put on a pair that raised his attack by 5. He gave the boots to Succie who put them on right away. Her armor set hadn't included boots, which meant there might be a piece missing, or possibly an extra piece since she already had the set effect, either way her feet were now covered in furry boots.

They didn't go well with her outfit but Jax could care less.

"Thank you I promise not to break them!" Succie said, definitely raising some flags. Jax gave a silent prayer for his boots as they made it to the entrance of the dungeon.

"How many goblins do you think will be waiting for an ambush?" Jax asked since it would change his plan if there were too many.

"Hmmm I think there were only 4, two had slingshots and two had wooden clubs."

"Perfect that works." Jax couldn't think of a great plan since he had never been inside, but he was confident in being able to get past the ambush.

"You will be in front and just put the gauntlets in front of you. If I've learned anything from the game so far, it's that weapons have a lot of versatility in how they are used."

He was thinking of all the times he would throw his weapon at a wolf because he couldn't quite deal enough damage. He made sure to always make it his last shot, so he figured the gauntlets could work in a similar way. Since they were big and clunky, they could be a makeshift shield for them as he shot down the archers in the back.

"Let's go!" Jax ushered Succie into the dungeon only for the latter to-

"NO I DON'T WANNA! It's too scary!" She clung to Jax's leg refusing to let go.

A lot of the uncoming chapters are a bit longer than the initial 1000-1500 words I wanted to stick to. When I was writing, it just became longer but after this little dungeon ark I will bring it back down.
