Death's Heart: Chapter 20

The Heart continuously beating like a jackhammer in his chest was annoying but it seemingly calmed a little when he was just a couple hundred meters away from the fortress. Jack knew it would only get harder from here on out so he prepared himself for the siege. Luckily he had done something similar before when he was in the tutorial but this time it would be much more difficult.

He predicted that there would at the very least be one commander inside of the fortress so he needed to be able to focus on them first and get them out of the fight before he got tired. He knew that although the heart could produce near limitless mana he was still able to get physically tired. He was also going up against an enemy that even the highest level people struggled against as a mere level two. But jack knew if he didn't go to the fortress he would have to go into the center of the parasites territory which would be absolutely stupid of him.

He then summoned his shadow commanders and commanded them to take a group and take strategic positions around the fortress. He then got Dorry to be the main distraction and once Jack gave them the signal they would start the full on attack.

A little while later Dorry began to charge at the fortress with a small group of shadow skeletons behind him. They were met with a Massive swarm of cockroaches flying in the sky in front of them. Dorry scoffed at this as if it was futile then he made an arm motion and a few skeletons in the back casted magic and fireballs the size of a minivan were sent into the bugs causing them to scatter and in little to no time most of them were burned into dust.

Dorry charged towards the fortresses gate and he knocked it down with no problems but then he heard a cry that was what he thought to be the banshee commander Explosive Patience. This made Dorry have a slight bit of worry but then he roared and that was when all hell broke loose around the fortress. Thousands of shadowy arrows were sent flying in and anything that they touched simply fell over. It was almost as if death was coming to claim the lives that it was owed.

Dorry spotted the commander but left her alone since he knew that Jack was the one who needed to take care of her.

Jack had heard Dorry's roar and after he saw the rain of arrows he had produced with his Shadow Armory skill he and Hook charged forward. Jack was alone with Hook since he would be able to get closer to the commander with him and he also wanted to be able to get there without being noticed. After running for a little while Jack was close enough to the fortress and a hook had grabbed him and got ready to throw. Once Bellivir had made it inside Hook had launched Jack towards the Commander standing on top of the walls looking down into the center of the compound which was starting to look like hell due to all the dead bugs and black blood everywhere.

As Jack got closer he was preparing himself mentally but when he got a little less than a meter away from the commander she spun her head towards him. But she was a second too slow as Jack had given her the absolute nastiest right hook any person could imagine. The Commander was sent flying back but she soon recorded although her jaw was hanging down. Jack assumed he had broken her jaw but he was really aiming for her neck so that he could make sure she would not be able to scream.

He could only give up on that thought and soon began to charge towards her. He thought the commander had tried to say something but he couldn't understand her due to it being intelligible because of her Jaw.

Jack then summoned a sword behind her and sent it towards her neck still trying to eliminate that cry but she blocked it with a swipe of her arm. It seemed like she was getting slightly angry but Jack continued to pester her with a few punches all over her body. Jack knew that his punches were doing nothing to her but he had to try to go for a battle of attrition due to being severely outmatched in the fight. This continued on for around 4 hours and Jack was now panting heavily and the commander still looked like when he first started and her jaw had also healed back to normal. Jack was basically a punching bag for her and she had also not even used her cry. Jack figured she felt that she didn't need to use it due to him being so weak. The Heart had also stopped beating wildly making Jack wonder what had happened to it but he still continued trying to defeat the commander.

After a little Jack heard the commander say something but he couldn't hear much due to his ears being struck by her and him losing his hearing slightly. The commander threw a punch at him and he tried to dodge but this time he failed and was snt flying towards the massive tree in the center of the fortress. Jack had blood flowing all over him but it was still recovering due to his heart although slower than it normally should have. He tried to get up but his knee had been broken. That was when he saw all of his shadow commanders charge at Explosive patience and get knocked back by a loud screeching sound of what he assumed was the cry.

Suddenly everything stopped. Nothing moved and it was almost as if time had completely stopped although it had only slowed down to an extreme degree. He then heard footsteps behind him and the rocking of a chair. He saw a Man and a woman standing on a balcony looking towards him with smiles on his face. This was one the few memories he had of his parents before they had abandoned him. This made him feel enraged but that was when he heard someone behind him speak up.

Mysterious man "Quite angry aren't you?"

Jack "Who are you?"

Mysterious Man "You don't remember me? We had met before."

Jack "I have never seen you in my life."

Mysterious Man "What if I put my armor back on?"

Jack "You from the neutral zone?"

Mysterious Man "There you go."

Jack "So why are you here in my memory?"

Mysterious Man "I don't know. I am already dead so maybe I am also a memory."

Jack "Do you know why this heart was acting so strange earlier?"

He then pointed to the right side of his chest.

Mysterious Man "Hmm i wonder why you have my heart in your chest…"

Jack "WHAT!"
