Tears were hanging in the eyes(1)

After realizing what happened, Alice Garcia's eyes turned red with anger. "Jane, how dare you hit me?"

Jane met her gaze with fury in her eyes. "You conspired with Carl Edwards to drug me last night. Do you really think I'm stupid?"

She had eaten the same food as everyone else, but she had consumed more of the burned sage. Afterwards, she experienced a series of symptoms, and coupled with Alice Garcia getting off of Carl Edwards' car, it was clear that they had planned it together.

Alice Garcia covered her face and refused to admit anything. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

At that moment, Elizabeth walked into the office. Alice Garcia saw her and threw herself into her mother's arms, "Mom, Jane hit me."

She burst into tears as if she had suffered a great injustice.

Without asking for the reason, Elizabeth frowned and glared at Jane. "Jane, even if your cousin did something wrong, she's still your sister. How could you hit her?"

Jane looked incredulous. She hadn't returned home all night, and Elizabeth didn't ask any questions about it, but immediately accused her without knowing the full story?!

It was as if Elizabeth thought that Alice Garcia was her own daughter!

Although it didn't hurt, Jane's heart ached. After all, Elizabeth was her own mother, and she was protecting her niece.

"You should ask her what she did to me." Jane clenched her fists in anger, her voice hoarse.

Alice Garcia quickly defended herself. "Mom, it's a misunderstanding. Jane had a cancer attack last night, and Carl Edwards and I kindly offered to take her to the hospital. But she accused us of drugging her and wanting to harm her. It's all baseless accusations."

Jane widened her eyes. Alice Garcia's shamelessness once again challenged her understanding of her.

These black and white, half-truths and half-lies were ridiculous. But, unbelievably, Elizabeth believed it.

On her well-maintained face, there was a hint of pain and concern. "Jane, are you... are you mentally imbalanced from being tormented by your illness?"

"Don't pretend to be strong, okay? Go to the US for treatment. Maybe there's still a chance to survive. If not, let me help you find a psychologist. Don't continue in your position as the vice president. Go home and rest."

Elizabeth spoke earnestly, looking serious, like a good mother worried about her sick daughter.

Jane's heart ached, and she stumbled, reaching out to grab the edge of the desk. She lowered her eyes, filled with self-mockery and pain.

Ever since her cancer was made public by Carl Edwards, Franklin Garcia and Elizabeth had treated her no differently, still chasing after fame and fortune, still ignoring her. When Elizabeth spoke to her like this, Jane didn't feel loved at all. She felt like Elizabeth was trying to kick her out of the company.

Tears hung in her eyes, and the pain in her heart was indescribable.

A small hand held out a tissue in front of her, and she met a pair of innocent eyes, naive but encouraging. She felt inspired and took the tissue to wipe away the tears from the corners of her eyes. When she looked up again, her expression was bright and dignified, with a smile on her face. "Thank you for your concern, Mom. Both my body and mind are fine. You can rest assured."

Elizabeth still looked concerned, but upon hearing Jane's words, she nodded slightly and said, "I came to inform you that there's a meeting in the afternoon. It's for Carl Edwards to act as Oliver Ford and Kevin Flores' agent."

Jane's heart skipped a beat, but she didn't show any reaction. "I understand. I will attend the meeting on time this afternoon."

Elizabeth turned around and gestured for Alice Garcia to leave with her. Alice Garcia pouted and left.

Jack rushed over to close the office door and comfort Jane.

Outside the door, Alice Garcia's aggrieved expression disappeared, and she affectionately linked arms with Elizabeth, gritting her teeth and cursing, "That bitch Jane dared to hit me. I will definitely hit her back."
