However, an unexpected incident occurred just before they checked out. It was reported that a guest at the hotel had been robbed of a string of sapphires worth $500,000. In order to cooperate with the investigation, guests who were leaving the hotel that day had to prove that they had nothing to do with the incident before they could leave.

Jane didn't think much of it and complied with the police and hotel security personnel's request to open her luggage for inspection. However, to her surprise, a string of sapphires was found in the compartment of her luggage.

The victim of the theft confirmed that it was her necklace.

With solid evidence, Jane was arrested on the spot.

She was stunned and immediately explained in fluent English that she was innocent and had no idea how the necklace ended up in her luggage. She claimed that she had not stolen anything from anyone.

However, the police refused to listen to her and handcuffed her, taking her away to the station.

Jack, who was with her, was dumbfounded. When he realized what was happening, he rushed to Jane's side and opened his arms to protect her.

The police expressionlessly pulled him aside, saying they would arrange for him to go to a suitable foster home.

The situation happened too fast, and Jane was not psychologically prepared at all.

Just as she was about to be pushed into the police car, she saw John strolling out of the hotel lobby. She grasped at the last straw and shouted to him, "John, help me!"

John put his hands in his pockets and looked coldly at her as if he didn't know her.

He watched as she was shoved into the car and taken away.

When she was locked up in a cell, Jane was tense and anxious.

She wondered if someone had stolen the necklace and, in a panic, put it in her luggage. But if that were the case, the thief wouldn't have put it in the inner compartment. Also, her luggage had a password, and the only people who knew it were her mother Elizabeth, her former assistant Jusis, and Carl.

There couldn't have been a fourth person.

So, the probability of a thief stuffing the necklace into her luggage was almost zero.

If someone framed her and made her take the blame, she would be in deep trouble, and she broke out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

For a full 24 hours, she didn't close her eyes once. It wasn't until the sound of the iron door slamming shut and a pair of shiny leather shoes appeared in front of her. But John wasn't buying it.

He looked at her with a cold gaze, as if he had no sympathy for her at all. "You want me to help you?"
