pass on to Jill's dad(1)

"This is the voice of Mark Cooper," said the person on the other end.

Jack looked to Jane helplessly as she bit into her own arm, teeth sinking into skin and looking a bit frightening.

"Hello, Uncle Cooper, this is Jack. Can you please have Jill's dad pick up the phone?"

Mark Cooper chuckled on the other end. "What are you talking about? John doesn't have a son like you."

The words he had mustered up the courage to say were met with ridicule.

Despite feeling upset, he couldn't focus on his own feelings when he saw how much pain his mom was in.

"Uncle Cooper, my mom is sick and there are bad people near our car. Can you please tell Jill's dad to come and pick up my mom? Please?"

He explained the situation as clearly as he could, hoping Mark Cooper could help.

There was a moment of silence on the other end before he asked, "You're in the car and there are bad people outside?"

Jack nervously reached for his mom's hand as she seemed to be losing consciousness and constantly wanted to open the car door. Uncle Edwards, who had been smoking by the car earlier, now came to the car door and tried to get her out.

"Yes, please tell Jill's dad to come quickly. Please, I'm begging you," he said weakly, unable to stop his mom from trying to get out.

"I understand," came the reply before the line went dead.

Jack freed up both hands and immediately hugged Jane around the waist, calling out to her loudly. Jane's movements slowed down and she looked down to see a pair of small hands hugging her tightly. She slowly turned her head and saw tears in Jack's eyes.

"What... what's wrong?" Her muddled consciousness became a bit clearer and she reached out to wipe away Jack's tears.

"Mom, please hold on a little longer. Jill's dad will be here soon," Jack said anxiously.

Jane understood and nodded vigorously, using all her strength to control herself. She turned her head and saw Carl Edwards staring at her intensely through the car window.

His eyes glinted with a sly green light, as if he was eagerly awaiting something.

"I can't let him succeed!" she muttered to herself quietly, as if trying to give herself courage. She thought about climbing into the driver's seat, but Jack stopped her. "Mom, it's dangerous."

She was more out of control than a drunk person, how could she drive?

Yes, she couldn't drive. It didn't matter if she hurt herself, but she couldn't put Jack in danger.

She sat back in her seat, curled up into a ball, repeating to herself that she couldn't let him succeed.

Jack anxiously and tenderly kept checking the time on his watch and phone, feeling that each minute was longer than a century.

As they waited, Carl Edwards began smashing the car window. In the darkness, his face was twisted with urgency and anger. Although the car was within his grasp, Jane refused to open the door.

"Hmph..." He sneered and turned back to his car, taking out Jane's BMW key. Carl had bought the car for her from the dealership as her agent, and he had a spare key.

With a beep, the car door opened, and he yanked Jane out of the car. She tried to shrink away, but he grabbed her arm tightly. "Come with me."

Jack didn't hesitate and jumped out of the car to follow, biting Carl Edwards' hand. Carl Edwards yelped in pain and swung his arm forcefully, sending Jack flying like a kite.

"Jack!" Jane bit her lip until it bled. She knew exactly what was happening, but her body was powerless. Seeing Jack fall, her heart ached with pain.
