Would Never Have A Crush In Him!

"You really don't know what a crush is? Or are you pulling my leg?".

They both looked at me incredulously.

Finally getting that I may really not know what they are talking about, Riley starts to explain.

"A crush is..... someone you like more than a friend. Someone you want to be more than friends with. Someone you admire , but they don't know that. You can only hope they feel the same way as you. Someone you want to spend your whole time with, but at the same time being contended while looking at them afar."

Her friend added ,"And it really hurts if the feeling isn't reciprocated."

Now it was my turn to look at them incredulously.

Why would anyone, willingly, want to get into something that hurts? Why would she bring this on herself ? What if her feelings were left unrequited? What would she do then?

"What if it's unrequited? What would you do then?, I ask.

She smiled and said, "But what if they are returned? Wouldn't it be worth it? I can then be with him all the time. I'll be his top priority among other girls. He'll ignore other girls if I want him to."

I frowned. I didn't like the way she said that. Why would he ignore other girls because of her? He is his own person and can make his own decisions. But what she said resonated within me. What if he actually listened to her and started to ignore the girls? Ignore me?

That thought sent a pain through my chest.

He was my best friend. He wouldn't just ignore me would he?

But what if he did

What if ! What if ! What if !

I began to hate this feeling of 'What If' !

Suddenly making my mind about it I told her, "Sorry, but I don't think that I want to put your letter in Micheal's bag. You'll have to do it yourself."

Without another word I turned around and started to leave.

"Do you have a crush on him too?"

Her words stopped me in my tracks. I turned around and told her , " He's my friend . Nothing more. And will never be. I would never have a crush on him!"

Turning around I went to play leaving them behind.

Little did I know my word would come around to bite me in the back.
