Hua Yan slept until deep into the night when she was suddenly awoken by thirst. She called out "Yun Chi," and received no response by her side. She called out again, waited for a while, but still, no one answered. Feeling that something was amiss, she became fully alert and opened her eyes.
There was moonlight tonight, shining into the room. She turned her head to look beside her, finding no one there. She reached out to touch the blankets, which were cool and smooth, indicating that Yun Chi had not gone to bed at all.
She sat up, got dressed, and tried to get out of bed, but her body felt weak. So, she tentatively called out, "Caiqing!"
After Yun Chi had left for Huazhuo Pavilion, Caiqing had not dared to rest until his return; she had been waiting in the outer room. Hearing Hua Yan call out, she immediately responded, "Crown Princess Consort, your servant is here." With that, she quickly pushed the door open, entered the room, and lit the lamp on the table.
