Scarlet's Double Life

Scarlet Clark is a drop dead gorgeous lady with a body that men could kill for -- literally. However, no one knew the secrets that Scarlet had under her wigs and she would do anything to keep people from finding out about her true mission. Carson Garner, on the other hand, was a billionaire who had not enjoyed peace of mind for a while -- not until he had a meeting with one of his business partners and met the man's personal nurse. But had he seen her somewhere before? Carson didn't know for sure. All he knew was how the lady made him feel and the pull that he had toward her -- one that Carson couldn't ignore. Carson found himself thinking about Scarlet at every waking hour and doing things just to get closer to her. He was sure that he needed her in his life. But Scarlet was one focused lady and love wasn't on the list of things that she wanted -- revenge topped that list. She needed the person who was responsible for her mother's death to pay for what he had done and to pay slowly. That way, Scarlet relished in enacting her revenge.

"What's Your Name?"

The air conditioner in the conference room was always left on but because of the man that was coming in, they'd had to reduce the temperature to suit him. He was a delicate man of fragile health but had only one heir to the empire that he'd built over the years. However, the son was yet to finish college and the man had to hold on till he returns to properly take over from his ailing father.

"How do you feel?" the deputy asked.

"Just alright-" he stopped to catch his breath.

The nurse that was standing beside him cast a glance at the old man.

'He hasn't even said anything and the old fool is already wheezing...' she thought, smirking behind her face mask.

"- to get this signing over with..." the man struggled to finish.

"You can take a sip of the warm water beside you, sir, " the nurse said as she heard the sounds of heels on the floorboard of the room that they were inside. No one has heard when the doors had opened but she guessed it was because they were glass doors.

Anyway, Carson and Lexi Hunt walked into the room, and pleasantries were exchanged. Carson got to the head of the table and sat there. The owner of the Tiling Company occupied the chair on the other side of the long, glassy table.

They talked about business and how they could benefit one another, then the man coughed -- and it wasn't just a minor cough as it graduated to a fit of dry cough making the man wheeze as if he was struggling to breathe.

Carson stared at the man with no expression on his face, however, he was wondering why the man had struggled to be there himself. Still, Carson understood the way of business. This was a highly profitable deal that the man wouldn't have wanted anyone to tarnish, so Carson Garner could relate.

As the nurse moved to help the man while fetching a vial from her work bag, that was when Carson noticed something. His brows furrowed deeply and his deep-set eyes were fixed on the nurse.

Lexi bent and leaned into Carson's side so that she could whisper;" What is the matter, boss?" she asked as she noticed the change in Carson Garner's demeanor. Her eyes searched the place and what was happening with the man and his nurse, but she could see no wrongs with whatever was going on -- the man was very sick and it made sense to her at that moment why he came to a business meeting with his nurse by his side.

Carson didn't reply and kept on looking. Something was gnawing at the back of his mind but he couldn't quite place a finger on it. It was as if no one was there with him as he was alone and engulfed in his thoughts.

"Here…have this," the nurse said as she titled the man's head backward and poured the brown-looking liquid into his throat.

"I apologize for this and-" the deputy started to say but was cut off by Carson's direct question.

"What is your name?" Carson asked. There was something about her that seemed familiar to him. She was beautiful, yes, he could not deny that but that was not only the issue. It was as if he'd seen her somewhere before.

The whole place fell silent, so silent one could hear the man's ragged breathing all over the conference room. It seemed like Carson had thrown the question openly, so no one answered and they mostly had confused expressions on their faces.

The first person to break the awkward silence was the deputy. "Who's name, Mr. Garner?" he asked with confusion still etched on his face.

"Yes, sir…" Lexi added. "Who's name are you asking ab-"

"Her…" Carson said, looking directly at the nurse who still had her back facing Carson and her attention fully on her patient -- or so it seemed.

"He's talking to you," the deputy said to the nurse.

Slowly, Scarlet turned and faced the man who was asking for her name. "Sorry, I didn't quite catch your question, " she said with a feigned innocent expression on her face.

"What's your name?" Carson asked again.

Now, that shocked Lexi Hunt as she knew her boss detested repeating himself. She looked at him, managed to peel her gaze from his handsome face, and looked at the nurse to whom he was referring.

'Could this… this woman have caught his attention?' Lexi thought with a sneer on her face. Left to her, right there and then, she would have asked the nurse to be excused. There was no need for her inside the conference room anyway.'

'It's not like the man would have another fit in this short time,' Lexi thought. But she knew that she could not do that even though she wanted to with every fiber in her body.

Matters got worse for Lexi when out of the corner of her eye she saw Carson stand up from the chair that he'd been sitting on. He stood up and began walking toward the nurse. Jealousy surged within her and all she could do was bite down on her bottom lip.

The nurse looked down at her patient who wasn't even looking at her. His chin was in his hands and some of his fingers covered his mouth. It seemed like he was trying to catch his breath which was very much needful as his throat had undergone stress. However, the nurse's eyes met the deputy's and she watched as he shrugged.

"My name?" the nurse asked and before she could think of what else to say, the tall man was already in front of her, his eyes searching deep within her and all around her like he was looking for something. It made her feel uncomfortable but on the other hand, she was used to the onlooking of strangers.

The nurse cleared her throat before she said anything else as she looked directly into the tall man's sea-green eyes. She didn't think she'd seen such color contrast in one set of eyes before. "My name is Scarlet…"

And that was all Carson needed to hear.
