The sun began to rise from the horizon, letting its rays to travel all around and cause pretty yellow beams of lights to shine through the curtains of a dark dorm room at an experiment facility.
The dorm was in horrible condition. It really showed how much the people in the building didn't care about the four lives that had to live there and endure the worst of monstrosities.
The dorm was pretty small, it was more like a box of matches or a can of sardines than an actual dorm. The enclosure consisted of a small bathroom which only had a toilet and a broken sink as well as big enough room to fit two bunk beads which were located at either side of a window with big curtains.
The walls of the dorm were a grayish color with weird-looking stains here and there and the old, creaky wood floor was filthy; dust and grime were painted over it, which suddenly led to the small room to acquire the stinky smell of mothballs.
But despite the living conditions and the fact that the mattresses of the bunk beads were extremely out of shape, four children slept soundly; two girls, and two boys with the peculiar names of Hazlet, Aidan, Lucella and Nanshe.
There used to be a fifth member to their small four-member crew, but he had disappeared and later assumed dead by the four friends he had left behind. The news had been heartbreaking for the four, but what could they do? They couldn't stand against Adan's murderers, they would get killed as well if they tried to oppose the killers that had taken his life so mercilessly behind the closed doors of a lab room.
Between the silence of dawn, an alarm echoed all around the walls of the dorm, making the four that had been sleeping so soundly to wake up with a start as their small lucid dreams were shattered like small icicles in the summer heat
Lucella; a beautiful 18-year old girl with snow-white skin, light blonde hair and sapphire-like eyes, sat up from the top of the bunk bed and looked to the sides with tired eyes that had blackened bags bellow them. Her hair, which was usually well-kept and neat, was now puffy and tangled due to a sleepless night.
She was usually a fast and deep sleeper, but tonight the memories and the nightmares that had invaded her subconscious that had almost eaten her alive had kept her awake for sone good 4 hours.
"Not again. . ." Hazlet; a small and slender 17-year old boy with brown hair and beautiful leaf-green eyes, grunted. He stretched his arms above his head, making his back let out a small crack as well as his neck. He covered his fawn-like ears as the alarm kept resonating all over the dorm. "Ugh! Can someone turn that off?!"
A burst of flames went past Hazlet's head, traveling through the air and crashing against the devilish device that cried with such ear-tearing sound. As soon as the flames came in contact with the claxon, it immediately melted and fused with the wall that it had been settled at, finally getting rid of the sound.
Aidan; A tiger-like 19-year old with tanned skin, dark hair and stripes running down his back, shoulders and upper arms, blew his index finger with a cocky smile plastered on his face. "Done~"
Lucella and Nanshe let out giggles of laughter as they stood up and walked towards the heavy metal door of their dorm while Hazlet only shivered. "You really scare me sometimes, you know that, right?"
Aiden let out a tiny purr and held the door open for his friends. "Well, you wanted to get rid of the alarm didn't you?"
"Yeah, but you almost made me bald. . ."
The conversation between the two boys faded away as Lucella shook her head slightly and walked beside Nanshe. Her appearance was a bit different from theirs. She was what you would call a 'mermaid' or a 'siren'. Her scales were a hue-less gray, she had webbed hands and webbed feet, she had a few spikes running down her back as well as a tail that could help her swim faster than an Olympic swimmer with more than a thousand medals hanging from their neck.
She was different than them. . . Well, they were ALL different. They weren't just normal kids at an experiment facility that disguised itself as a. . . Hospital for the . . . 'not-so-normal' kids.
Don't be mistaken, Nanshe, Aidan and Hazelt were the only kids that were kept here alongside Lucella, well. . . There had been a fifth kid, but none of them liked talking about him too much, the mere mention of his name always made Lucella feel upset and well. . . Heartbroken.
None of them were normal; they had powers, they were different from their families. They were different and endangered the society that they had been born in.
They all had back stories, they all had suffered the pain of being abandoned and never hearing or seeing their parents' faces just because they had been different than other children.
Fire, water, earth and air.
Those were the powers that each one of them had been born with.
Aidan could control fire any time he wanted, he could make his flames grow up to ten meters. They were also so strong that it could settle a whole country on fire if had enough malice in his sould to do it.
Hazlet, even though he was smaller than all of them and a bit weaker than all of them, could control earth. He didn't know much about his powers, but he knew that they were there since he could sense a small connection to the trees from outside the facility.
Nanshe was the holder of water. It was pretty obvious, her siren-like appearance gave her away. She could communicate with marine animals such as dolphins or sharks and could control water to her delight.
As for Lucella? She was connected to the air. She may be passive and more gentle than her friends, but if she was to ever go through her breaking point, you bet that her gentle breeze would turn into a wild and violent tornado.
To them, these powers meant everything to them. To people outside of the facility? Not so much. Even the people who worked here hated them and preferred to seem more dead than alive.
The worst thing was that these monsters were supposed to be taking care of the four children. They were supposed to keep them away to protect the 'normal' ones, but these monsters preferred to use them and abuse the powers that the four kids had been born-- or more specifically, cursed with.
The four children walked down the snow-white hall, Lucella looked around and inched closer to Nanshe and the two boys who had finally stopped their bickering. It was time for their non-filling and gross breakfast. . . And right after that, they would enter the experimentation rooms.
Only God knows what might happen to them. . .
