Chapter 26
"Where are they?" Alpha Charles inquired from his guards angrily, causing them to quake in fright.
"My lord, the mistresses have been sent for, they should be in their way now," one of the guards replied with a shaky tone.
"Well, I'm running out of patience, I want them here this instant," the indignant alpha ordered, putting the two guards to flight immediately. "Don't return here without them!" In a rapid instant, he was soon left all alone in his room.
Somewhere beyond the door in the corridor, Ruth and Stella stood in fright as they heard the urgent thundering of Alpha Charles's voice. He sounded really angered, and it could mean trouble for the both of them.
"Are you sure we should go?" Stella whispered to Ruth, as her feet were stiffened to the spot from the fright.
"Of course we should go," Ruth retorted. "No one dares to defy the alpha's orders, and we should get going."
"But it sounds like we're in trouble." Stella sighed, frightfully. "Could that sneaky Queen Elizabeth have ratted on us?"
"There's only one way to find out, and that's to go see the alpha right now—"
Ruth was interrupted mid speech, by the familiar footsteps that came from behind them. They both looked back to see Queen Elizabeth coming towards them, wearing a deceitful smile on her face, as she walked majestically towards them.
"Oh wow... seems like I keep running into you both everywhere I go," Queen Elizabeth said, with a smile. "I heard the alpha was demanding for the both of you. If I were you, I wouldn't want to keep him waiting for too long."
"That bitch..." Ruth whispered in anger, as Elizabeth walked past the both of them. "Let's get going at once before we get an extra punishment for delaying."
As she said that, she took Stella by the hand as they made for the door of Alpha Charles's room, out of which two guards had already run out in search of them.
"We're here..." Ruth said to the guards as they ushered them into the room. The two took consecutive deep breaths as they entered.
"We apologize for the delay, alpha," they both said in unison, as they did obeisance to Alpha Charles who had his back turned on them, as he had his eyes on the view outside his window.
They fell on their knees, hoping that would somehow avert the anger that could have brewed up in the alpha because of their delay in obedience.
There was just something frightening and intimidating about Alpha Charles's hind view, especially when he wore one of his long coats like the one he was wearing at the moment.
For a moment, there was silence, as they awaited to hear why the alpha had suddenly summoned them. They dared not to utter a single word, as they recalled the foul mood the alpha had been in earlier because of the screaming maid.
Besides that, their last encounter with him hadn't been a pleasant one in anyway. That sour encounter where he had gone physical on one of them for the first time, would always stay etched to the walls of their memories.
"What took you both so long?" he asked without turning to look at any one of them.
Stella took a deep breath, before she made an attempt at speaking, "It was all my—"
"We apologize... but because the orders came too soon, and urgent, we had to delay a bit to make sure that we looked and scented good before appearing before you," Ruth interrupted before Stella would blow it all away with her emotional explanation.
"Very well then," Alpha Charles said, as he slowly turned around to face them.
They both gasped frightfully, as they saw the buttons of his coat were open and were exposing his nudity. The sight of his protruding hardness had them almost gasping in shock.
"I'm having the both of you for the night," he said taking off his coat.
They were almost breathing a sigh of relief, as they hadn't been called because of the death of the maid.
"Get up and strip," Ruth whispered excitedly to Stella.

"What's up with that fellow?" Queen Charlotte asked herself, as she was all alone in her room. She was reminiscing on her brief encounter with Lucas. He had been nothing short of weird.
At some point, it felt like he was hiding something from her, but she couldn't lay a finger on what it could have been. What could he have been doing at the door of the underground passage all alone?
She became bothered about the fact that she was even bothered about Alpha Charles's beta. It felt wrong, but she just couldn't get her mind off of him.
When she had seen him at the door to the secret passage, it felt like he had been a bit displeased to see her. But then, he had agreed to walk with her to her room door, and that had her wondering what exactly his intentions were.
"Oh fuck it..." she sighed, as she fell back tiredly into her bed. The sun had almost set completely, and it was a bit dark outside.
It had been yet another day full of too much drama in the fortress, but her mind was still on Lucas. The way he had instantly made her forget about her vow to reconstruct her life baffled her even more.
"You seem a bit too quiet today, Charlotte," Queen Amelia came through the door of her room without knocking. "Anything the matter?"
"No, not really," Charlotte said, cracking up a fake smile as she sat up in bed. "I'm just a bit tired from all that has been going on lately."
"I see," Amelia replied with a tone depicting compassion and sympathy, as she sat beside her in bed. "I still feel sorry for that maid who had been on the verge of being whipped by the alpha."
"I also feel the same about her," Charlotte replied half-heartedly, as she still had her mind on Lucas. She was wondering what exactly he could have been up to at the moment. Was he also thinking of her the way she was? Was she slowly becoming obsessed with him? "Ugh..." she sighed out loud, without knowing, as the thought of it had a bit disgusted.
"Are you alright, Charlotte?" Queen Amelia asked in surprise and in awe.
"Sorry about that. I was just having a hard time dealing with memories of my stupidity at the night of the party. Some memories just don't get to leave." Charlotte marvelled at how she had told that lie so flawlessly, and at how well Amelia bought it from her.
"I understand, but you'll be fine," Amelia replied with her usual smile that hardly ever wore off. "Just keep at it, and you'll soon be alright.
At some point, Charlotte felt like Amelia's friendly gestures weren't always heartfelt, and had to be with some hidden ulterior motives. It all felt too good to be true.
"Thank you," Charlotte said, as she got up from the bed. "Could I ask you something?"
"Sure, anything at all," Amelia replied, with her eyes brimming with anticipation.
"Great..." Charlotte said, as she quickly thought of the best words to make her question less awkward than it was actually. "You've probably been within these walls longer than I have been, so I wanted to ask if you had an idea where Lucas's room is."
"Lucas?" Amelia asked in amazement, as her smile slowly dissipated.
"Yeah, Lucas. Alpha Charles's beta." Charlotte felt a bit of trouble as the smile had worn off too suddenly.
"I know that he is the alpha's beta," Amelia said, as her tone went from the friendly one to a mildly instructive one. "But then, why exactly do you want know of his the location of his room? Do you have some sort of unfinished business with him?"
"No... never mind," Charlotte regretted asking that question, as it had already planted suspicion in Amelia. She had wanted to carry out the whole exercise in secrecy, but she had blown it already.
"I think it's best you just try not to get too close to him. He can be weird at times, and has got quite an unstable character," Amelia's words did nothing but fill Charlotte with even more curiosity.
She would just have to find her way on her own.

"I apologize, alpha," Selene said, as she was down on one knee, reporting her seeming failure to get some information out of Lucas. "My only request is that some more time be given to me so I can break through his mental defenses."
"More time is something which we don't have," Zach objected from beside Alpha Ryder's throne. "We need to get this over with as soon as we can. I think you should send me instead alpha, I know just how to get the word out of him."
"No... she'll go again," Alpha Ryder objected. "But this time around, you're going with a different plan."
Zach fumed silently, as he felt a sting in his ego. It was finally time to take matters into his hands.
