Chapter 26: Limit Breaker(part 1)

The thought of killing was exciting for me, as I had become accustomed to such scenes. I had single-handedly killed more than twenty people while hunting down those who had murdered an old couple that had shown me love and shelter when I was on the run from the authorities, deemed as blasphemous for not being able to awaken during the awakening ceremony.

If I had these runes, or even the legacy without any runes inscribed on me, the hunt would have been exciting and less time-consuming. I would just have to spend around one year in seclusion, getting hung over the process of Rune Inscription and getting good at the process, inscribing several runes on my being as per my requirement. Although the runes I would have inscribed on me would have been 'common' runes, The power they granted me would have made me a horrendous monster to ever come across.

I might have been stuck at the same rank without getting the chance to obtain The 'legacy artifact' but I would have at least become someone with enough capability to deal with even The lord of that town by stacking several runes on my body, covering my body with runes that granted me With better agility and strength.

It would have been fun.

" Don't you think?"

I stopped dwelling on the scenario that could have happened if I had obtained the legacy in the past. I believe my past was a valuable experience that shaped me into who I am today, someone with refined willpower and enough life experience to be eligible for the legacy.

The pain I had to bear during the time I was still a mortal was the life that I am grateful for right now as it had taught me about the hidden darkness beneath the cheerful smiles of the people around me. I wasn't naive enough to try and help these people just because I had power, "it was truly a fool's dream."

Back to the topic at hand. The increase in my attributes was absurd to say the very least.

That stats page in front of me was several times better than the one I had started with. My strength, Defense, and Vitality had reached the rank of transcendent, breaking the limit regarding the attributes an awakened warrior could have. Strength was even ready to break into the next rank with a little push. 

As for this little push, it was going to be hard even for me as it was the chasm between 'transcendent warrior' and 'Elite warrior'.

" This was the edge my legacy gave me over other warriors." I wasn't limited by a specialization like others were limited. My specialization instead gave me the ability to equally upgrade every attribute as I wanted. Even the class that was supposed to be obtained after baptizing oneself with the energies of Heaven and Earth while ranking themselves to 'Transcendents' was provided to me by the legacy when I awakened it.

Only agility was in the rank equivalent to the peak of Awakened warriors, it was also ready to break itself at any given time. It wasn't a problem for me now that I had gotten the perfect trait belonging to 'Heart of Rune' that lets me comprehend any kind of runes I want, given the rank of ' Rune of Insight' was powerful enough. 

''I will raise this attribute to the rank of 'Transcendent' before venturing into any other dungeons," I promised myself as I was going to enter the seclusion and inscribe all the runes that I had planned till now into my being before going to raid other dungeons found in this town. 

The runes I was planning to inscribe on my being were, 'Rune of Agility', 'Rune of Stealth', and 'Rune of Tranquility' along with others I planned to create. I intended to inscribe twelve common runes on my being, only stopping after I was able to reach the limit of the runes my body could handle for now. 

As for uncommon runes, The purity of my mana limited me since Uncommon runes required the mana purity of at least a 'D-' rank before I could create the 'Symbol' with enough strength to hold the meaning of Uncommon runes. Even infusing the meaning into an inscribed symbol needed the mana purity of at least 'D-' to handle the process without any problems. So, I was left with no other choice other than to inscribe the Common runes on my being right now.

As for Rare runes, I had already fulfilled the quota with three runes already inscribed on my being. These runes were overpowered and I was satisfied with the abilities they granted me. Also, I wasn't able to work with these runes due to my 'Mana Purity', just like with the uncommon runes.

'Rune of Insight' empowered its previous effect by at least two times, granting me more insights into magical phenomena going around me. It could now let me see the detailed information of the enemies that I was dealing with rather than their names and tier only. It had made me more attuned to the magical energies around me. The proficiency I had with it had been downgraded to intermediate but I could feel it…. The mastery I had over this rune was even greater than I had with it when it was Uncommon ranked One.

'Rune of Inscription' now lets me the ability to inscribe the 'Symbol' for rune on spiritual beings which I was going to utilize to inscribe the 'Rune of Tranquility' in my soul. Even the efficiency of inscribing the runes has been greatly enhanced making it easy for me to create refined runes.

'Rune of Strength' empowered its basic abilities while also increasing my strength by two entire ranks. The increment of two ranks might look small upgrade, but the increase in strength it provided me with was tremendous. I was now capable of killing the abominations like 'Blood Puppet' with my pure physical strength.

The two added runes 'Rune of Vitality' and 'Rune of Blood' gave me wings as they both were absurd. One made me a powerful tank with immense vitality while another made me the nemesis of anyone who had blood running through their veins.

Talking about the new attribute that had been quantified by the legacy for completing the quest.

"It was pitiful."

"What the hell was with its rank??"

"Just 'F-'"

I couldn't help but curse as the quantified soul was the lowest it could be. I mean the attribute never went less than F- for any awakener that had been able to sense the mana from the environment before becoming a warrior.

" Is the soul supposed to be this weak?"

[ Affirmative. Host soul is powerful for someone who hasn't even ranked up for once and been baptized with the energies of heaven and earth.]

No wonder, the soul was something deemed as the territory belonging to gods. Even with the baptism from the recreation of my body and the strengthening it had gone through, it was the lowest it could ever be.

" Why is it so?"

[ Because the baptism of the heaven and earth one gets when ranking up helps in refining the soul of anyone. Before going through the refinement process, the soul would be in its embryonic state without any measure to quantify or utilize it.]

And??

[…]

Yup, I wasn't going to obtain more information from the legacy because it was still sealed. Haiz… "My soul was supposed to be stronger for someone my rank." and it is pitiful to look at.

" Doesn't it mean anyone with the ability to attack the soul was going to become the strongest warrior if they were thrown into the mix of normal warriors?"

[ Affirmative.]

Then,

"How am I supposed to protect my soul from such attacks?"

[ Host's soul is protected by legacy.]

I was amazed by the reply as it wasn't something I had on my mind.

"My soul was protected by the legacy!!!"

" When??"

"How?"

" And, Why??"

I had no answer to these questions but I was really bothered by it. So, I could only do the best thing in this situation, try and relax on the fact that my soul was protected by the legacy which was something eccentric as it was. 

Enough about soul for now. Back to the topic of my stats:

This was the notification that flashed in front of my retina, flabbergasting me.
