Sean Alexander's Office

Watching the once cheerful face looking so lost and sad, I

knew I couldn't do much to ease his troubled mind.

 It's not news in the

office that ever since he got entangled with that woman, the void in his life

has gotten bigger.

Was he too blind to see the damage she had done to him? The

pain in his eyes was evident. Shaking my head in disappointment as I continued

to look at my boss,

I thought, not every man is blessed with his type of

patience.

"Cane, why are you standing there?" I asked him before

clearing my throat.

I noticed he had been standing there for a while now. Cane

has been my secretary for years and he has always been so reliable.

"Nothing, sir," he spoke up.

"So why are you standing by the door?"

"My apologies, sir."

"Then go make yourself useful," I snapped at him. He

apologized again before he left.

 What's this look I've

been getting around the office? Did I really look so pitiful? I've always told

myself that Angela would change.

 I've always made

excuses for her actions, thinking that maybe someday she would turn a new leaf.

But the reverse has been the case.

Maybe because I'm way older than her; she is 24 years old

while I'll be turning 30 in a few months' time. But still, she had always been

too ambitious for her age, which I never really had a problem with.

I believed she could be whatever she wanted, and I'd always

be there to support her. But now, her arrogance and disrespectful behavior were

beginning to tire me. If she hated me, then why did she agree to marry me?

"Why does her ruthless behavior start to affect my

personality?" I asked myself.

However, there was no answer to that because only I held the

solution.

I could decide to end it all, but what type of man would

that make me? Running away from something so trivial, yet it was beginning to

affect my state of mind.

Even though I had given her too many chances, which she never

took seriously, I stood up and started pacing around in my office,

 thinking maybe I

could come up with a better solution.

I've always treated her right, even before we were in a

relationship, and I still do.

The worst part of it is that she had never apologized for

her sassy behaviors. Always throwing herself at me as a form of apology, and

I've never rejected such an approach.

I mean, what type of man in his right senses would reject

such a tempting offer? She's so attractive and appealing to the eyes, but her

character was nothing to write home about, which sometimes made me repulsive of

her.

If I wasn't familiar with her family, I would have thought

otherwise. I've tried having a civilized conversation with her, which yielded

no fruit.

 "Don't tell me you

can't handle a little attitude," she would always say.

I had complained to my parents, yet they insisted that it

was just a phase that would pass.

It's been over a year now, and we're getting married soon,

yet she's yet to behave or at least not act too harshly towards me. She has

been taking advantage of my softness and also mistaking it for weakness.

 I think I'll need to

set boundaries, even though I can't possibly fight fire with fire.

I was in a daze, still thinking of ways to make her see

reason. My phone rang, bringing me out of my thoughts. Seeing the call was from

Cane, I picked up.

"Yes, what?"

"Sir, the meeting with the publisher will commence in five

minutes," Cane informed me.

"Okay, get everything ready. I'll be on my way," I responded

before ending the call. I gathered my thoughts and left for the meeting.

The meeting was brief as they knew what they came for. Even

though my attention was diverted the entire time,

I was in no mood for long dialogue, and I was glad it didn't

take much time. I didn't bother to shake hands with them, which was unlike me.

I asked Cane to take care of the rest before I went back to

my office to get some paperwork done.

A few minutes later, I was back in my office. A slight smile

appeared on my lips as I remembered the encounter I had with that stranger

yesterday.

Even I couldn't help but wonder what it meant to meet

someone that made my soul relax and my blood rush effortlessly through my

veins.

I was finding it difficult to control my heartbeat. I never

knew I could be that comfortable with a stranger. Well, it was soothing, I must

admit.

However, I didn't think my heart could still skip a beat,

yet it did. All the anger and anxieties vanished within a few minutes.

"Olivia," I muttered her name. I don't think I'll be

forgetting about you soon. The thought of her made my heart race with joy,

and laughter escaped my lips—so much for someone I barely

knew. She was a beauty to behold: her ocean eyes and her shiny hazel brown hair

dazzling under the sun's rays.

Even though I was trying not to stare too hard so that I

wouldn't come off as a creep, I still noticed her perfectly curved figure that

fitted so well in her tight jeans.

The shirt she wore showcased her endowed bosoms. She looked

perfect. What got me tripping was her smile because I found myself lost in it

I've never really been the type to remember details about a

woman before, except for Angela, of course.

I breathed in deeply before I exhaled. If only Angela could

at least be as soft as she was. I don't know if I would ever get to see this

stranger again, but

who wouldn't wish to? I had to shake the thoughts out, but

deep down I wanted to meet her again.

"Excuse me, sir, you called for me?" Cane's voice distracted

me from my thoughts.

"Yes, just cancel the other appointments for the rest of the

day," I informed him.

"But sir, we are to meet the Rose Foundation in regards to

the donation in less than an hour."

"Cane, I'm sure you can handle that."

"But Mr. Alexander, your presence would really make a huge

difference," he said.

"I'm not paying you to argue with me, Cane Nathan," I

sneered at him.

This made him lower his head as a sign of retreat.

"I have somewhere to be, so just do as you're told," I

informed him. He only nodded before excusing himself.

I picked up my keys and was about to exit my office when I

heard a familiar voice.

"Going somewhere?"

I looked up to see Angela. "Angela… you're here?" I said,

awe-struck by her presence.

"I came to pick you up for lunch," she informed me.

For goodness' sake, I wanted to wipe that smug look off her

face.

 This was new; I

wasn't familiar with her picking me up for anything, not even for lunch.

I tried to hide my disappointment because I already had

other plans which involved my peace of mind, but now that she was here, it

could be disastrous.

"Let's go," she said as she took the lead.
