Change in Authority

As Sir Edward was looking down on the soldiers, he did not know what to say to them. Normally he followed orders and therefore was confident in what to say. However now he was the one that would make all the decisions. This was something in a totally different level. Compared to his personal levy, the prince's levy is tenfold to what he had.

Because he had a smaller levy, he knew the names of everyone. Yet, in this group, outside of a selected few, Sir Edward did not know the names of the soldiers. This made it more difficult for Sir Edward to approach them. Moreover, there were also several knights present who both came from a stronger family as well as were from the inner circle as well. This would form a difficult for the authority of Sir Edward. Therefore, Sir Edward had to show off a strong first impression to tighten his authority. As he could get the soldiers behind him, the other inner circle knights might be less reluctant to oppose his authority.

Deciding that he had to show a strong first impression to win over the soldiers, Sir Edward moved to the edge of the balcony ones more. Clearing his throat, Sir Edward spoke up, "Soldiers, as you have heard from the prince, I will be the one leading you all for the coming few days! As long as there is the treat of demonic beast attacks, I will make sure that this wall stands." Taking a breather, Sir Edward continued, "If we fail here, not only will we lose our lives, but also put out homes into danger. This will not only ruin our reputation, but also His Majesty's. He brought you all here, because he trusts you all. Therefore, I ask you all right here, will you honor the prince's will and follow my orders until he gets back up again? Will you fight together with me against these beasts? Will you bring glory and honor to us all?" With those words, he looked at the soldiers expecting a reaction to these words.

As the last question was asked, there was a moment of silence in the courtyard. Scared that he was not able to reach the soldiers, Sir Edward opened his mouth to say other things. Just as he was about to speak up, some of the soldiers shouted out, "Yes Sir! We will follow your orders to the end!" Looking down at the source of this, Sir Edward noticed a familiar face. It was James who started them. With those words, the surrounding soldiers also agreed as they shouted their eagerness and willingness to follow Sir Edward.

Happy with the result, Sir Edward could not help but give a thankful smile towards James. It seemed that the ignition of James helped immensely with the situation over there. Holding up his hand to silence the soldiers Sir Edward continued, "As it is getting late today, you are all free to spend your time as you wish. However, tomorrow I expect that everyone is awake and ready early in the morning! Now that the prince is standing up again, we have to pick up where we left and work double time! I have great expectations of you guys!"

Saying these words, Sir Edward turned around and entered the room. He noticed that the prince was already lying in his bed. The prince gave him a smiling glance as he said, "I knew you had it in you to lead the people. My judgment was certainly not wrong! Make me proud these coming days."

Hearing these words, Sir Edward bowed and replied, "Thank you your highness. I will do my best to make you proud!"
