"It was you who spread the rumors about the dark lord and the goddess," Belisarius uttered. This would make the most sense now. "It was you who played the humans, letting them fight the beasts and call you the dark lord. You wanted to create the villain to glorify the goddess, you wanted to make everyone believe that she… she sacrificed herself for everyone else when you… when you were the one who ended her life."
And Belisarius believed him.
