Spawn

I felt bristle-like blue sparks tickle my whole being as I went from numb to breathing again. I'm a little used to it by now, I thought while breathing heavily. I hovered over a glowing blue hexagon platform with metal-looking borders surrounding it. I looked down at my body, still forming. A tanslucent virtual wall surrounded me and its light grew brighter until it was blinding, suddenly releasing a low pitched hum before the walls drew down quick, letting me observe my environment.

Players were swarming all around, I'd arrived at the main lobby. It was truly a breathtaking sight, the lobby shone bright enough to light up the whole place, showing off its curves and graceful patterns running along the pillars that arched up to the ceiling. If I wasn't trapped here maybe I'd be able to enjoy it.

I stepped off the hexagon spawn platform, it felt like a great force of wind that pushed against me suddenly stopped as I got off. Glancing around at all the players making their way to portals to realms and so on, I wondered how we all got into this mess in the first place.

It was supposed to be a normal day, my little sister was out with her friends and I was curled up in a ball shutting myself away from the rest of the world. An anonymous person had released a whole demo of the game, it had a ton of bugs.. I'd give the graphics about a 4 out of 5.

We never knew that was the last game we'd play.

About a few hours later I turned it off when I was bored, yet later all my gaming monitors lit up and all I could see was a man in black and horrendous static noises coming from all around me, screams and commotions grew louder as I quickly rushed out to my window only to be greeted with the large screens on buildings displaying the same thing- the man in black.

"The world shall know the true meaning of life"

He announced, those words rang in my ears crystal clear and still send chills down my spine every time I recall it. Moments later we all truly broke into a panic, everyone desperately running from what seemed like a deathly red hologram wall. One by one those people hit the lasers and dropped like flies, leaving me no option to run.

I fell a victim too.

I awoke in the lobby, along with what seemed to be millions of people endlessly stretching as far as I could see, all of which broke into a panic. suddenly the man in black appeared before me in a screen again, staring down on us like we were worth less than ants, even though we never saw his face, that was how I felt- or rather knew that was how he looked at us.

I blinked back to my senses, remembering what I came here for. I was ready to enter a room. Or so I think I am. There are many rooms, but only one room of swords, and not just any- but the ones told by prophecy of the man in black. We fight to freedom, going from room to room equiped with potions, armor, and swords of our own, however nothing as grand the room would have. There are plenty of rip offs though that got me- and my savings- hard when I was a noob player. Players go on quests, upgrade themselves and go to rooms to fight, you respawn anywhere, but according to what I've seen oddly anyone who dies in a room won't respawn.

Even if I walk out of this alive, I'll never shake off the fact that I ploughed through and piled up bodies of my enemies who just wanted to live a normal life.

and that scares me the most out of all of this.

I've survived about 78 rooms now, and I know I'm closer to the room of swords. However the biggest battle I'll face is choosing the correct sword, where I must choose one that reflects me, and if I choose right it'll be as light as a feather however.. If I don't it'll weigh heavier than steel. I've been living in this realm for a decade now, yet I don't seem to age, including anyone else around here either..

I rank 53 out of a few million people, quite the honor if you ask me. But as someone said once, rank is just display. And that's very true, the ranks are only determined by the number of rooms you pass. Which is why there are only millions left.. Out of all the dead corpses that await them in hell. Another place I bet I'm going to.

Hahaha..

I'll meet you all in hell.
