After about thirty seconds had passed, he got antsy. “Well?”

I smiled. “Yes.”

“Really?”

“Really,” I replied. “This is where we are, Monty. Taking it slow. Learning about each other’s likes and dislikes, pet peeves, annoying habits and sexual positions, maybe.”

He laughed. “I like that last one, a lot.”

I smirked. “You would.”

“I’m male, aren’t I? Seriously, though, that one time we were together blew my mind, and I wasn’t sure I would ever get to have that experience—or anything else—with you again.”

I winked at him. “It might be in your future.”

“It had better be.”

“You’re leaving tomorrow,” I murmured as we danced together to a slow song at a jazz club we’d found after leaving the restaurant.

“It’s too soon, isn’t it?”

I knew what he meant. “No, it’s not. It’s just right. It means we’re forced to take things at a leisurely pace because we’ll be apart for long periods of time. It makes the time we do spend together that much more potent.”
