Road to Valhalla

My name is Seraph. In a world that is filled with magic, science and arts of unbelievable kinds, I'm relatively ordinary. But then I met them. A group of assassins that work the machines of the world behind closed curtains. And the most striking is their leader, the woman which is the greatest mystery in the world. Though to the world we are all dead, each of us has a story of their own. I wonder if I can find myself a home among these people who call themselves Valkyries and more importantly can I solve all the riddles that surround them?

Remember Me

"Remember me."

Ah, that's right. I thought she said nothing this time around, but really she did. I wonder why I forgot about it till now. That day when Prophet and I left, she was standing outside alone. She was looking into the distance like she always did, thinking or perhaps reliving some distant memory. I observed her back from the distance like always. Then, as if feeling my gaze on herself, she turned her head slightly my way and returned the gaze with such cold and barren eyes.

At times like this, I always had the feeling she was looking into the future. She watched us leave and just before we disappeared from her sight, she mouthed these two words to me. I cannot curse myself enough for having forgotten that all this time.

It might have been too late to remember this now, under different circumstances. Fortunately, we were in the underworld. Ironic as it may sound, for a dying man like me, there was nothing better than that.

The reason Lucy has the capability of killing me right now is because she is the one that makes the rules here. Only she can give and take life in this place. And the reason I can kill her is that...well, this is actually not the truth. Prophet and Lucy made this absolutely one sided deal knowing that under no circumstances, can I kill or even get close to killing Lucifer.

Still, why is my best friend Prophet that I've known for over a billion years now, trying to kill me? He did say he was bored of me. Hmm, that's plausible. Regardless, there's got to be something that suddenly brought this on. You must be wondering why in the middle of this hellish fight which already has me down, am I thinking about such paltry reasons. To be perfectly honest, that's because there really is nothing else to do. Its not that I remember anything from our world. Beyond Lady, that is. Still, there are way too many gaps. I remember her existence but rather vaguely, none of which would be of assistance in a time like this.

As I lay thinking here of everything and of nothing in particular, Nasty II is gathering all my recoverable organs from every reachable corner. He's really a great guy.

Anyways, there really isn't a lot to tell here. But let me just walk you through what happened. As expected, once Prophet, or should I say, Lucy started going down on me, I tried to evade. But I failed eventually and that landed me in my current scenario. Lucy is currently summoning a planet big enough to destroy this whole underworld. She is floating up in the red sky. She is completely ripping the place apart, pulling pieces of land and putting them together in a huge spherical form.

When she brings that thing down on us, we'll all die. I wonder why Prophet is okay with that. Nasty II will die too. That makes me sad. He's such a great guy, what a waste!

He's putting me back together but its all useless. He used his salivary powers on me before, so this isn't gonna help me anyway. I'm grateful to him though.

"Nasty", I summoned all the power in me to call him.

He looked my way and walked towards my head, placing his tiny hands on my forehead.

"Its our fault we got you in a pinch", I didn't know if I had the right words to apologize.

Before I could think up something, Nasty patted my head with his tiny little hands as if saying "Don't worry, I got this."

I smiled weakly and closed my eyes.

Soon, I felt something warm dripping on my face. I opened my eyes. Nasty was standing on my chest with his tiny arm extended over my face. He was bleeding. The blood drops smeared my mouth.

"What...?"

Demon blood has healing powers. Surprising, isn't it? Its not mermaid tears at all. In fact, I hear those are poisonous. It does make sense in a way, though.

"Stop!", he wanted me to drink his blood and heal, "You've done enough."

Demons don't have a lot of blood. And smaller demons like him are especially short on it. When they bleed even just a small bit, big demons smell them and come hunting for their blood. Hell is hunting for neither food nor water, but blood. Knowing that, how could I put Nasty II in harm's way?

Still, he wasn't giving up. I drank his blood. What a pain, I thought, now I'll have to fight. Surely, I wasn't letting his blood go to waste.

So what was it that I could do? I kept thinking as I got up, all patched up. Nasty II scampered away in a little corner, exhausted and weakened. It fell on me to protect him. I needed to protect him, at least, if nothing else. Him, and the life he saved.

Lady.

Nothing else came to mind. I was stuck. I really was.
