His Hometown

I think my eyes stared at Michael till my eyelids dropped. I can’t tell when I fell asleep, but before I did, I had all those thoughts soiled with worries, perplexity and maybe I was also a little bit relieved. But I was more confused than I could ever be that night, and dreamland was the only place of escape from all realities for me. I jotted out of sleep when I felt this very bright light being shone into my face, causing my eyes discomfort. But then, I open my eyes and all I see is blackness. Michael held my hand and then with his other hand, he placed my head back on his shoulder, but I was not comfortable in that position, so I just sit back up.

“Did the light disturb you? It was from an incoming vehicle,” Michael said. He sounded calm, his voice in baritone. It left me wondering if he had also just woken up or if he was on the verge of sleeping. I wanted to ask him, but I just shut my mouth and shut my eyes too.
