Kicking Henry Out Of The House!

Henry's Side:

Henry was surprised to see the man standing outside the door. This rich man, equally taken aback, was perplexed to see a young boy answering the door to his sister's house. He momentarily wondered if he had come to the wrong place and glanced at the nameplate on the wall beside the door, which displayed the house's name, address, and the owner's name. It confirmed he was indeed at the correct location.

The man thought to himself, "This is clearly my sister's house. But who is this young man?"

While the man was still puzzled and deep in thought, Henry broke the silence by asking, "Hello, are you looking for someone?"

Before the man could respond, both Evelyn and Lucy's voices rang out from behind Henry, "Brother!"

Realizing this was the brother Lucy had mentioned, Henry quickly stepped aside, letting go of the door. Lucy and Evelyn hurried forward to greet their brother, his wife and daughter.

"Brother, sister-in-law, Mia, why are you all standing outside? Come in, come in!" Lucy urged warmly.

Evelyn added, "Yes, don't just stand there. Come inside."

The man, still a bit bewildered but now smiling, walked in with his wife and their daughter. Henry held the door open wider, ensuring everyone could enter comfortably.

At that moment, Henry realized that one of the two women was Lucy's brother's wife, and the younger one was their daughter. He was taken aback because, as he had noticed during the argument in the street earlier, both women appeared to be pregnant. Now, seeing them up close, he confirmed that his eyes had not deceived him—both mother and daughter had noticeable baby bumps. The sight of both being pregnant simultaneously was quite surprising.

As Lucy's brother and the two women entered the house, he asked, "Who is this boy?"

Lucy responded, "Brother, don't you remember? I told you on the phone that I was going to rent out the room upstairs to some university students."

Hearing this, Lucy's brother frowned and reprimanded her, "When you mentioned it, I assumed you were only going to rent to girls. I never imagined you'd rent rooms to boys. Having a young man living under the same roof as three women without another man around is really unsafe."

Lucy's brother was not at all shy about voicing his concerns directly in front of Henry. The bluntness of his statement left an awkward silence hanging in the air.

He continued, addressing Lucy and Evelyn, "You two are not young anymore. You should be more careful about the people around you, especially since there is no man living with you. Today's society is not safe. I only allowed you to take tenants because I was in a difficult situation with my job, and I thought you'd be considerate and use your brains for once. But now, looking back, I realize it's my fault for not being able to support you during that time. However, it's not too late. I am in a very good position at the company now and can fully support you. There's no need for you to keep renting out the upper floor."

Lucy's brother was blunt and left no room for misunderstanding. His intention was clear: he didn't want his sisters and niece living under the same roof as an unknown young man. He made it evident that he wanted to kick Henry out and assured his sisters that he could now support them financially.

Lucy and Evelyn exchanged uneasy glances, aware of their brother's protective nature but also recognizing the practicality of having a tenant to help with expenses. Henry, standing awkwardly to the side, felt a mix of emotions. He understood their brother's concern but also felt unfairly judged without being given a chance to prove his character.

Lucy took a deep breath and stepped forward, attempting to reason with her brother. "I appreciate your concern and your offer to support us, but Henry is a good boy. He's studying hard at university and has never caused us any trouble. We've always been careful, and we wouldn't have taken in anyone we didn't trust."

Evelyn nodded in agreement, adding, "We've grown quite fond of Henry. He's respectful and helps out whenever we need it. We understand your worries, but we're comfortable with him here."

Their brother's expression softened slightly, but he remained firm. "I understand what you're saying, but my main concern is your safety. I just want to make sure nothing happens to either of you or my niece. If anything were to go wrong, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself."

Henry, sensing the need to speak up, finally said, "Sir, I understand your concerns completely. I promise you that I respect Lucy and Evelyn and would never do anything to jeopardize their trust or safety. I am here to study and focus on my education. If there's anything I can do to reassure you, I am more than willing to do it."

But Lucy's brother didn't respond to Henry's words and just snorted. Lucy knew her brother's character well; he didn't trust people easily. She understood that his concerns were solely for her and her family's safety. However, after living under the same roof with Henry for a long time, she had come to understand his character. Unlike many young men his age who could be reckless and irresponsible, Henry was well-behaved and respectful. She had no issue with Henry renting the room on the upper floor.

There was also another reason for her decision. Lucy didn't want to be a burden to her brother. He had always been supportive, especially after her husband died. He had helped them as much as possible, even though it meant working incredibly hard to support not only his own family but also his two sisters and niece. Without his help over the years, the inheritance left by her late husband would have been exhausted long ago.

Despite her gratitude, Lucy felt she couldn't always depend on her brother, especially now that her daughter was growing up and expenses were increasing significantly. Even if her brother didn't want her to, she had to rent out the free rooms. She was determined not to be a burden any longer. Lucy believed that although it might be challenging to convince her brother right now, she would eventually succeed.
