Interrogation

After the police began their investigation, Jeff, the detective working with demon-related cases, was driving to the first psychiatric ward, where Damon was being held.

After reaching, Jeff walked in and went straight to the desk sergeant. He took out his badge and showed it to Erik, a bald elder with a white beard, who was working behind the desk while listening to music on his headphones.

"Hello. I'm Detective Jeff Davis. I'm investigating the murder of Margaret Crowmark."

"Who?" Erik looked at him with raised brow in confusion.

"Margaret Crowmark," Jeff repeated. "Is Damon Richards still in your facility?"

"Yeah… But are you sure you're here for Margaret?" Erik asked after he checked the database on his computer. "Damon did kill a person, but it was a worker from this facility."

"Is Damon still here?" Jeff said. His nose and forehead were scrunched up from the confusion. If Damon was still in the psychiatric ward, could he kill someone outside?

"Yes, he is here." Erik nodded. "Many nurses and guards left because his memories of demonic possession remained, even after he regained his senses."

"Interesting. I would like to see Damon. Would it be possible?" Jeff said as he bit his nail out of habit. He always bit his nails whenever he felt confused.

"Sure, I guess." Erik shrugged and stood up to lead his way to the patient. But before that, he gave Jeff a warning. "But remember, we are unsure about Damon's mental state. Please don't do anything that might trigger negative emotions, nor ask him about his family. From what we know, he has super strength and super speed, so it would be dangerous to anger him."

"Alright."

Jeff followed Erik to Damon's cell and thought, 'Super speed and super strength. This makes no sense.' If these were Damon's powers, he couldn't kill Margaret. He again bit his nails and thought, 'Does this mean that there is another murderer?'

"Here." Erik pointed at heavily guarded doors.

Damon was transferred to a maximum security cell and was under constant surveillance. Cameras were everywhere, even in the bathroom. But Damon did not seem to mind, as he seemed to be sleeping most of the time.

"Remember. Please don't speak about his dead family." Erik warned Jeff again. He feared that Damon might end up killing someone again, but he had to oblige the authorities and give them a moment to speak with Damon.

"Yeah, I am not an idiot." Jeff smiled reassuringly. After large metal doors opened, Jeff looked around the cell to find Damon sleeping on the bed.

When Jeff saw Damon, he recognized him.'I know this kid!' Jeff wanted to wake Damon up, but before he could step inside the cell, he was stopped by Erik.

"He is sleeping. Come back the next day." Erik placed his hand on Jeff's shoulder from behind. "Let's go."

"What?" Jeff shook off Erik's hand and stepped forward to Damon's bed. However, Erik grabbed his shoulders again.

"You heard me." Erik pulled Jeff into the corridor and quickly closed the doors before Jeff could barge back in.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Jeff raised his voice and demanded an explanation. "If you're not going to explain yourself, I will arrest you for intervening with police work!"

Erik shook his head in disappointment. He could not believe the detective's attitude toward someone who had worked with demons for almost 15 years. Erik inhaled deeply and exhaled.

"Are you planning to wake up a mentally unstable super-powered person with anger issues?"

"Huh?!" Jeff frowned because Erik's voice became judgmental.

"Are you out of your mind?!" suddenly, Erik raised his voice at Jeff. "Waking him up might put an entire facility and everyone in it in danger!"

"I… I…" Jeff stuttered after realizing how bad the situation would be if Damon woke up in a bad mood. "I guess I will come the next day."

Erik sighed in relief that Jeff understood his statement. Sometimes, even those policemen who work on cases with demons end up underestimating the demons.

"I will call you when Damon wakes up," Erik said, but suddenly he heard a loud bang behind the doors, which made him and Jeff step back from the doors.

They watched with wide eyes as the metal doors flew out from the frame and crashed into the wall, making Erik jump back slightly. The door opened, revealing Damon standing in front of them with bare teeth and glaring hostile at them.

"Shut up! I am trying to sleep!" Damon shouted at them. His right hand was shaking as he wanted to punch something. Before he was interrupted, he was stalking Miranda in his astral form and found out where they lived. However, he was awakened by Jeff and Erik.

The two men flinched at Damon's intimidating aura. Erik looked at the doors and thought, 'These doors should have been soundproof.'. Then, he took his gaze at Jeff and cursed at him in his thoughts, 'Happy now, you son of the bitch?!'

Meanwhile, Jeff gathered all his courage and asked Damon, "D-Damon? Do you remember me?"

Damon frowned but answered. "Yes. You're Jeff Davis."

Damon was not happy that he was interrupted while he was haunting people. But he knew that he mustn't kill people unrelated to Lilith's death unless it was necessary for his revenge.

"I need to have a word with you, Damon. Are you busy?"

Damon's eyes widened in disbelief. "Yes!" He said as he walked past two men, who were frozen in fear. He picked up the metal doors and placed them back into the frame; however, the doors fell off the frame again.

"Shit!" he cursed when he realized the side jamb was ruined. He turned to Erik and said with a calm tone. "I want a new room!"

"Y-Yes! on my way!" Erik quickly nodded a few times, turned his gaze to Jeff and said, "Good luck." before leaving as fast as he could arrange a new cell for Damon.

Jeff watched as Erik disappeared at the end of the hall. He wasn't sure what to do now that he was alone with Damon. Seeing up close, he realized that Damon's anger issues were understated.

"Damon, I want to talk to you," Jeff asked just in case Damon agreed but was prepared to leave if Damon denied. He was unwilling to risk his life for no reason and would rather postpone questioning Damon for a while until Damon became more stable.

"Talk, huh?" Damon stretched his neck, making cracking noises. He decided to ask, "About what?"

"Well… About…" Jeff stuttered as he froze the moment Damon turned around.

Every single move Damon made was intimidating. He slowly walked back into his cell and sat on the bed.

"About?" Damon repeated the question. His eyebrows were raised as he waited for an answer. Jeff's stuttering amused him, so he was not as angry anymore. "About James?"

Jeff felt chills going down his spine as the smirk appeared on Damon's face. He knew as he looked at Damon's face that this was not the face of someone who regretted killing a person. However, he was not here for James. He was here to investigate Margaret's death and stalking accusations.

"N-No. I am here for another case." Jeff shook his head. "Have you ever heard of Margaret Crowmark?"

Damon looked at the ceiling, pretending to be thinking. "Isn't that Miranda's mother? How is she doing?" suddenly, his eyes were wide open, as if Damon was in shock. "Wait… Did something happen to aunt Margaret?!"

Jeff was observing Damon's face, looking for something that would show if Damon was lying. He ignored Damon's question and asked.

"Did you get along with Margaret?"

"Answer me, now!" Damon said with a distorted deep voice.

Jeff flinched at Damon's demonic voice and cold stare. 'How can this be the same kid I met twelve years ago?!'. When Jeff met Damon last time, Damon was only eight years old and had just lost his parents. But despite that, he still was a happy kid. Looking at Damon now, Jeff could not feel anything but fear.

Damon continued to glare at Jeff, who was starting to tremble in fear. Suddenly, Damon sighed.

"No, I did not get along with Margaret. I saw her maybe one or two times, so we had no chance of getting along. I mean, when I met her, she seemed nice." Damon rubbed his thumb at his chin while thinking.

"I see…" Jeff nervously chuckled. "When was the last time you saw Miranda?"

"Miranda, huh?" Damon inhaled deeply and looked at the ceiling while thinking. "Maybe, three years ago? Oh, I have been here for two years!" Damon chuckled. "Five years ago."

Jeff looked at Damon and felt that Damon was not lying. Besides, Damon's superpowers seemed to be body related. He looked around and noticed a piece of essential evidence in the room's corners. Cameras. If Damon had been here this entire day, he could not be the killer.

"Thank you, Damon." Jeff stood and slightly bowed to show his appreciation for Damon's answers. He wanted to leave, but before he could, he heard a question that made him freeze.

"What will happen to me now, Jeff?" Damon asked, with a slight grin on his face. "Are they going to execute me?"

"For what?" Jeff asked without turning to Damon. He stood and stared at the wall in front of him.

"For James' death." Damon's grin grew wider. "What will happen to me?"
