Ciara had just turned seven, the age when a child's magical powers fully bloom. As was customary in their world, she was required to take a test to determine her magic type and level.
Diana: "Oh, Ciara, sweetheart, stop whining. It won't hurt."
Ciara: pouting "I don't want to! I hate needles."
James: "It'll only sting for a second, and then it's over."
But Ciara wasn't worried about the needle. Unlike others, who had only one magical ability, she could manipulate objects, fire, and ice with her mind. From her perspective, revealing such power would draw too much attention—especially the kind she didn't want.
Ciara: thinking "Imagine an old man showing up to ask for my hand in marriage." shudders
Diana: "I'm sorry, honey, but we have to do this today. We should have done it when you were five, but you cried so much that we couldn't. Now it has to be done. Besides, your elder brother and sister are coming home from the academy today for a visit, and we need to finish this before they arrive."
Ciara scratched her head, her mind racing. "What do I do?" she thought.
Then, a memory sparked—she knew a concealment spell!
Ciara: muttering under her breath "This is my only option… Obscurium ."
Diana: "You ready?"
Ciara: thinking "fingers crossed" "Yeah I guess".
Diana: pricks Ciara's finger with the needle and places it on the orb.
James: "Ice magic, level 8, This is pretty high for a 7 year old, Ciara would you like to join Celestorian Academy of Magic?
Ciara: pretends to think deeply "I don't know"
Diana: "She doesn't have to go yet James" looks at James
James: clears throat, pauses suddenly, then grins "They are here"
Diana: gasps "Come on let's go welcome them"
Ciara: thinks "Today is the day I meet the heroine of this story."
James: uses his teleportation powers to bring them outside of their manor.
Ciara: "She should be 13 years old now and my brother Christopher must be 15 years old."
They walk to the entrance of the estate and there is a very fancy carriage there, Gia and Christopher are getting out of it Ciara's parents rush forward first to welcome them, while Ciara just stands there with a look of bewilderment on her face.
Gia: "You must be Ciara, right? It is wonderful to finally meet you"
