First Demon Exorcism! A Test?

Chapter 9

He quickly backed away as he gazed intently at the strange creature – a humanoid demon.

It had tanned skin and deep bloodshot eyes. Its exoskeleton revealed scales sticking from behind its limbs. It had a muscular build and a jawline far larger than his entire face.

A creepy smile was apparent on the demon as it slowly approached him, swaying from side to side in a dramatic manner that only made him tremble even more in fear.

The demon's body was very rigid which made the constant sways look way worse than they should. Constant sounds of bones cracking filled the air as the creature slowly repositioned its forcefully bent bones.

It reeked of nothing but evil and he wanted nothing but to get as far as away. Taking to his heels, he kept on running as fast as he could but the creature was smart enough to do the same.

" Mommy!" He yelled at the top of his lungs as he kept running as fast as he could...

Until he ended up bumping into an invisible barrier that blocked his path.

A white resonated glow flew as his head hit the barrier and it instantly became obvious to him what it was; a light barrier.

With the manipulation of light energy someone had him trapped in a certain perimeter with the demon and it was only then that it became clear to him that he had no choice but to kill it.

"Grrr, grrr, grrr, errr."

The demon kept making strange noises and grunts as it came running towards him.

" I need a diversion." He thought, quickly standing up as he took to his heels once again.

Inside a dimly lit room, mostly empty with nothing but the table before her, a young lady, seemingly in her early thirties was seated.

She had her elbows on the table and her hands on her cheek as she gazed intently at the blank wall before her.

Brimming with nothing but beauty she had silky white hair and jade white skin. Her eyes were a bright crimson and she had thin pink lips, dressed in a crimson-coloured kimono she patiently awaited her messenger's return.

" May I deliver a message to you, my lady?" A female voice came from the door.

" Yes, and be quick." She ordered, slowly turning her gaze towards the door.

" Master Megumi has just begun the first phase of the test but he is unfortunately yet to deal with the obstacle before him. I wanted your orders on our next proceeding on his test."

" I don't believe you need my orders on the procedures Kurenai. Hit him with the psychoactive like I told you and don't report back until he's taken down the damned demons. Do you understand?" She added, her voice sounding so cracked and husky as she slowly turned her gaze back towards the blank wall.

" Yes ma'am..."

The strange woman was of course Megumi's mother, Himeko, and whatever plans she had for her son remained unknown.

Back in the woods, Megumi had finally mustered the courage to face the demon as he stood far away from it with a stern gaze.

His heart kept racing as he tried ever so hard to keep his composure against the creature but his fear wasn't enough to disrupt his senses to any great degree.

The demon's level of intelligence couldn't be great if only it could was make grunts, so any attack thrown at it would be enough to kill it.

Cloaked in the invisible energy that kept swirling about around him, he dashed towards the demon, but that was when the barrier began to flicker and both of them instantly stopped in their tracks.

The sky turned sour at that moment as cascading drops of water began falling from the sky, drops so heavy that they were easily piercing fifty millimeters into the ground just as they fell.

Had it not been for his physical build then he would have already fallen from the greatness of the rain but it didn't change the fact that his body was quickly turning sour.

What he was witnessing wasn't in the least normal and it wasn't about to end — while he was still preparing his attack against the demon, a wall of earth rose around him, trapping him within a space of one and a half meters.

A strange blue gas began surging in from nowhere and instantly pierced his nostrils. His head began aching as he felt the wall enclosing him begin to twirl in strange ways.

The searing pain going through his head only grew worse as his gaze slowly began to blur as a bluish fog began to grow around his eyeballs.

" Ahhhhhh!" He yelled at the top of his lungs as he fell to his knees, tears slowly falling out of his eyes.

Prolonged churrs went off in his head and the pain only stopped just as he was about to pass out. His body remained weak even after that and he remained on his knees as the walls that enclosed him slowly descended into the ground.

The external flowing around began to grow ominous as his hands slowly descended from his head and to the floor, his entire body shaking uncontrollably as he tried desperately to fight back the adrenaline building up inside him.

He felt numb as he slowly looked up at the demon with an emotionless gaze. His eyes glimmering as ever with a strange blue hue to them.

He looked menacing at that moment as lightning constantly flashed above them while thunderclaps continued to resound along with the cascading raindrops.

" What is this?" He thought, looking at his right fand, constantly folding and unfolding it, " What could have been in that gas earlier."

Meanwhile, the creature seeing that he was distracted tried using the opportunity to launch an attack at him.

Stretching out its right hand, all it took was another step forward before swinging it straight toward the boy standing before it.

The attack was swift and made a resounding whip through the air but its unfortunate limb exploded into mere chunks of meat as soon as they came a few meters close to the boy.

The external energy swirling around them began to grow intense, cutting into the ground around him. His body was still shaking uncontrollably but his attention was instantly turned towards the demon.

The demon bellowed with great pain as it gripped its wounded arm, azure blood oozing on the ground as its life slowly drained away.

It stood up with another loud roar and instantly charged straight toward him with another attempt to swing its arm at him. The vigorous external focused on the creature once again, but this time it wasn't just its body...

In place of the creature was left nothing but huge chunks of meat and a pool of azure blood on the ground.

" Well done Megumi, you passed your first test."
