Chapter 30 – Becoming a Wizard

The silence inside the dining room was abysmal. Even the girls began to feel the heavy atmosphere. I tried to break this atmosphere by striking up a conversation. However, the princess ignored me multiple times.

Feeling that this was going nowhere, I decided to apply a roundabout conversation.

-     Camila tomorrow I'll go hunting early. I'll bring in new prey for you to cook. The rabbit was delicious.

I tried to put a smile on my face, which made Camila tremble a little. Fear was evident on her face. Still, she answered.

-     Thanks a lot. I will prepare dishes to your liking, my lord.

After that, we started talking about Lena staying at the mansion as the princess's guard. Today it got in the way too much so I wanted to go alone.

I talked about different domestic matters, but the princess was unfazed by anything I said. This bitch was as cold as ice. Its fame as the gem of the kingdom was not undeserved. The dinner ended without even saying a word to its host. I could see the disdain she felt for me and the territory.

-     Today I don't need to be seen at night.

Those words surprised the princess a little. However, the girls were unfazed and bowed slightly.

-     The corruption rate has risen to 6%.

Go. It seems that the princess was affected by that phrase. Without saying a word, the princess got up and left.

I did the same and locked myself in my room. It was time to reach the first circle. My mana reserves increased thanks to my increase in intelligence. So, I felt like I was one step away from reaching the level.

The game was really cruel to the player, but only now did I see it as an advantage. I could skip everything and start with a solid foundation. Now I knew all the way to reach the ninth circle. I just needed time and resources.

I sat in the lotus position on my bed and began to meditate. My hands made Buddhist seals with their hands and the elemental energies floating around me began to enter directly into my body through the pores.

The energy was immediately purified and every cell in my body vibrated in ecstasy. This feeling was unique and no matter how many times I had entered this state, my reaction was always the same. This technique was much more powerful than the previous ones practiced there. So, this feeling was amplified a lot.

My heart began to pound and I left my dormant state feeling the anticipation of something big.

The energy around the mansion was completely engulfed by me. Even the princess, a trained person, felt the abrupt drop in the density of elemental energy.

In her room she met a maid who said.

-     Miss. Apparently, there is a very powerful beast in the area. Do you want me to investigate this anomaly?

The princess closed her book and said.

-     No need. That's not our problem. Anyway, I agreed to come to this poor place just for my fourth brother.

The maid sighed and said.

-     As ordered.

The princess had come at the request of her fourth brother. As the youngest, he was the least likely to inherit the throne. Alejandra only decided to help him because they shared the same mother.

Without that connection, she wouldn't have even set foot on these lands.

Back in Merlin's room

The energy was frantically entering my body without stopping. Even the light energy seemed to be more active than the last time I reluctantly entered. Now I could feel a brief fleeting connection to my surroundings.

This feeling was magical. It looked a lot like magical vision but deeper. It was mysterious. I could vaguely feel everything around me. From the chairs, the desk, the bed, the closet and even an ant that walked on the wall.

Finally, the energy that looked like a waterfall stopped. My heart had produced many iridescent energy threads that met and fused to envelop it completely.

The energy had formed a ring orbiting my heart, marking my arrival at the first circle.

My body began to shake and an overwhelming pain assailed me.

Every muscle fiber in my body contracted multiple times, forcing me to toss and turn in bed until I fell to the floor. My bones were crumbling and rebuilding. My vision would go black and my ears could hear everything a thousand times over.

This was unbearable. Even my skin burned like it was in an oven. I couldn't hold on. In the game, it had never happened to me before. Pain was part of the game and I could feel it completely the same as reality.

The first time I became a magician I never felt this. It was harmonious and addictive, not painful. In this situation I could only grit my teeth and hold on until this passed.
