Surrounded

DEVON'S POV 

I groaned under my breath and searched at the center of the table, my head in hand, as I tried to tone out the voice of the elders. After all, it's not like they had anything new to say; it's always the same thing time and time again: curse this, curse that. 

The pack's problem wasn't a bloody curse; it's an inside job. Masterminded by my very own right-hand man, Jack. I shifted my gaze towards him, glaring at him through the corner of my eyes. I can't believe it, and until everything else, I had to act like I was clueless about his schemes so as not to arouse suspicion. 

Yet he wasted no time in throwing me under the bus, always quick to keep the elders hidden and blame the pack's predicament on my supposed curse. A predicament he had brought up on us himself. A wolf in sheep's clothing.

"Alpha Devon! Were you even listening?" Alpha Kel yelled, his tone taking me by surprise as my attention shifted towards him.
