Like the turmoil in my heart...

DEVON'S POV 

I sat alone in the dimly lit living room, the rhythmic ticking of the clock seeming to amplify the turmoil in my heart. 

Rachel has refused to talk to me all week long, going as far as she possibly could to avoid being in the same room with me. I ran away as soon as she heard me come in, like I couldn't hear her from my study. It didn't matter how many times I tried to explain the situation to her; for some reason, she has refused to give me a listening ear. 

I've gone as far as asking Dona to put on a good word for me, but it usually ends the same way. She's refused to listen to reason. I've always known she didn't reciprocate my feelings for her, but this was something else. It's like she down-right hated me.
