DEVON'S POV

I dashed through the crowded hallway, dismissing the crowded hallways, paying no heed to the worried glances of the staff and the elders that trailed me; they weren't important. I just needed to make sure dad was alright and that he didn't die in the hands of those bloodthirsty monsters. I needed him to be alright. 

With a swift motion, I kick open the door and barge into his study, my eyes frantically scanning for him.

"Dad! Dad, I heard what happened. Are you alright?" A sense of relief immediately washed over me as my eyes locked with his. He was fine.

His eyes lit up as he grinned at me from ear to ear, followed by a sharp wince of pain as the physician applied some mixture to the open wound on his back. He forced a smile once again, trying to tolerate the pain, but I wasn't buying his charade. 

"I'm alright, son! It'll take more than a few silver arrows to the back to kill me."
