Chapter Twenty-Eight: Kyssee

After Alex took the job, he left the city immediately. Kaede knew he was going to take care of something, so it was her job to watch over everyone.

It took a few hours, but he soon reached the farm area where the wolves were said to have been killing the animals.

He walked up to the large farmhouse and knocked on the door.

Soon an older man with a balding head and a long white beard answered the door.

"Hello there, what are you doing here, young lad?" the man said.

"Hello, sir, I'm here for the contract you sent to the guild about the wolves." Alex said.

The old man looked at Alex and said "Aren't you a bit young to be hunting wolves?"

"Is everyone going to say that?" Alex thought to himself. He knew he was wrong, but he always thought he looked older than he was.

"It's fine, sir. Could you point me in the direction your farm animals are being hunted?" Alex asked.

"Sure, it's near the cattle ranch, which is to the right of here. They normally come at night, so Im asleep when it happens." The old man said.

"Thanks; your wolf problem should be taken care of by tonight." Alex said as he started to walk.

"Be safe!" the old man said.

Since the wolves only came out at night, Alex found a small barn to rest in while waiting for the sun to go down.

He sat up on some hay and laid back, waiting for the moment the wolves came.

*Meanwhile, in the woods in the north*

Two men were camping in the woods, cooking up some fish they caught for dinner.

"Sucks, we couldn't get the Lightning Origin." Asher said.

"We also don't have a trail on his successor, making it near impossible to continue to search for the Lightning Origin." Alexander said.

"Dammit, hope the others had an easier time looking." Asher said while scratching the back of his head.

Soon the two heard the bushes nearby rustle.

However, instead of looking at what it could be, they knew exactly who it was.

"What the hell are you two doing?" a woman with long white hair and red eyes.

"Violet, we're resting; that old man took a lot out of us." Asher tried to explain.

"Well, congrats. You struggled to beat an old man with fading power; do you want a cookie?" Violet said mockingly.

"Now, while you two idiots were fishing, I have news. Lucas and Rose found a trail for the Earth Origin Holder. They said he's hiding out in the mountains to the north. Asher, you'll join me and Sylvia in hunting him, while Alexander, you'll return to HQ for new orders." Violet explained.

"Never a day off, huh?" Asher said, sighing from his tiredness.

"You know what you signed up for. Suck it up." Violet said mockingly.

Soon, Violet went back into the woods, leaving Asher and Alexander alone.

"I hate that bitch." Asher said.

"She's right though; we knew what we signed up for. As tough as it is, if we want to achieve our goals, it's necessary." Alexander explained.

"I hate it when she's right, though." Asher said.

"She's normally always right." Alexander responded.

"That's what I hate about her!" Asher yelled out.

*Back with Alex*

*owooooooo!"

Alex heard the wolf howl, got off of his new hay bed, and looked out of the opening in the barn. He could make out a group of wolves attacking one of the cattle.

Alex sprinted out and used his lightning to get to the wolves faster.

As soon as lightning crackled in the air, Alex was right in the center of the wolf pack. Before the wolves could get ready to defend themselves, Alex used his Lightning magic to blast two of them, killing them both.

Soon the remaining four wolves circled Alex as he brought out his Tachi.

"Well, shit this isn't great." Alex thought to himself. He looked around and saw one of the wolves being bigger and meaner than the others. "Ah, so that's the Alpha."

Alex once again uses his lightning to increase his speed as he cuts one of the wolves head off with his tachi. Then he once again shot a lightning strike at another wolf, who couldn't dodge in time.

"Two down, two to go." Alex thought to himself.

Soon one of the wolves charged and jumped at Alex; however, Alex dodged it and used his sword to cut off its head midair, leaving only one left, The Alpha.

The Alpha, however, just watched its entire pack die in front of it; survival instinct kicked in, and the wolf ran back into the woods.

"Sorry, buddy, but I took a job to kill all the wolves."

Soon Alex disappeared, followed by a Lightning crackle.

Alex soon caught up with the wolf and used his tachi to swing at the wolf, causing it to have a giant cut on its neck as it fell over in the woods, whimpering.

"I'm sorry, if only you weren't killing other animals." Alex said to the dying wolf.

Alex, in an act of mercy, stabbed the wolf as he heard one last whimper.

As Alex started to walk back to the farmhouse to tell the old man he had succeeded, he heard some voices coming from nearby.

Alex walked to where the voices were coming from and saw a group of four men standing around a campfire; however, that's not the only thing he saw.

Inside a cage was a girl. She looked to be around Alex's age, but there was something different about her. She was a beastkin—a neko beastkin, to be exact. She had long green hair and blue eyes. She didn't seem roughed up, but she was covered in dirt. Alex's guess was that she had been in that cage for a number of days by now. Alex knew he had to save that girl.

Alex walked up to the camp nonchalantly and sat down on one of the logs.

The men looked at each other, confused, until one of them yelled out

"What in the fu-!"

The guy was soon cut down with Alex's tachi while trying to yell at Alex.

The other three looked at each other now that one of their members had been so easily killed by this person who had just strolled up to the camp.

"Rules are, I talk and ask questions, you answer, try anything, and you wind up like your friend there." Alex stated.

The men didn't say a word, knowing he meant what he said.

"Who is she?" Alex asked.

"A beastkin we were hired to capture" One of the men spoke up.

"Who hired you?" Alex asked.

"Some merchant from Lapis City—ugh, what was his name again? Louie, do you know?"

Another guy, whom Alex guessed was Louie, spoke up.

"He said his name was Gregory, Gregory Newsome."

"Well, thanks for the information." Alex said.

"Does that mean you'll let us go?" Louie asked.

"Haha, nope." Alex said.

Soon afterwards, all three of the men dropped to the ground dead after a loud lightning crackle.

Alex walked over to the cage, and the girl inside looked terrified of him. Alex raised his tachi, scaring the girl even more, before he cut open the lock and opened the cage.

"I'm not going to hurt you, I promise you; I'm not like them." Alex said as he reached out his hand to grab hers.

She hesitated, but she grabbed his hand as he helped her out of the cage.

"Do you have anywhere to go?" Alex asked.

Alex noticed that she still looked scared, so he reached into his bag and handed her a sandwich in plastic wrapping and a full water canteen. He had planned to eat this for dinner, but he decided to give it to the girl, who looks like she hasn't properly eaten in days.

"Take it; I know you have to be hungry." Alex said.

"No need, I'm fi-" the girl was saying before she was rudely interrupted by her own stomach growling. She soon blushed as she put a hand on her stomach.

"Take it; it's fine." Alex reiterated while laughing a bit.

"Fine." The girl said still blushing while pouting with her puffed cheeks.

The girl took the sandwich and sat down while eating. She ate the sandwich quickly and downed most of the water in the canteen.

However now that she had eaten she focused more on Alex. She admired his beautiful purple eyes.

"He's strong, kind and handsome..." she thought to herself.

Kyssee could feel her cheeks heat up from blushing and her heart started to pound louder and louder.

"My name is Kyssee." The girl introduced herself while also attempting to calm herself down.

"Well, nice to meet you, Kyssee; my name is Alex." Alex introduced himself but then asked "Do you have a place to go? I can take you with me back to Lapis City if you want."

"No, no, I'm fine, and besides, that's where they were taking me to be sold off." Kyssee said angrily.

While Kyssee wanted to say yes and spend more time with Alex, she knew that human's weren't welcome at her home, so she had to say no.

She kept looking into Alex's eyes while he continued to ask questions.

"Do you know why they wanted to sell you off?" Alex asked.

"Apparently some noble has a beastkin fetish for Nekos; I was with some friends before they attacked. They killed one of the guards of our group before capturing me." Kyssee explained.

"So, neko girl fetishes exist here, huh." Alex thought to himself.

"My village isn't far away; I'll go back myself." Kyssee said.

"You're sure? I can escort you back if you want." Alex asked.

"No need; you saved me, but I can normally handle myself, especially at night. Beastkin have better senses at night than during the day. I hope we meet again, Alex! I owe you for saving my life." Kyssee said as she hugged Alex before walking deeper into the woods.

"Well, I wish she would let me go with her." Alex said. "Although I should really be getting back to Lapis City and preparing."

Alex went back to the farmhouse to give his report; however, he didn't notice he was being followed.

"Thank you, Alex, my knight" Kyssee said while blushing.

"I should really get home and tell mom and dad about me meeting Alex. Im sure they'd like to meet him in the future!" Kyssee said before she went deeper into the woods.
