Chapter Sixty-Nine: First Day of School

*Ring Ring Ring*

The bell rang on the top of the Xymaris Magic Academy, signaling the start of the school day. Hundreds of students were arriving at the front gate of the academy in droves, including some very familiar faces.

"So this is our first day of school, huh?" Claire said, looking at the giant building.

"Seems, like it." Alex said with little emotion.

"C'mon now, don't be so emotionless about it; after all, this is the start of our next few years here." Amelie said while standing next to Alex and Claire.

Alex shrugged his shoulders and continued walking with the crowd that was heading to the auditorium of the school for the opening ceremony that all students must attend; however, second-year students and other older students had to arrive later to the school, so Raven and Freya would be arriving sometime in the next hour.

Alex and the others walked inside and sat among the hundred seats set up for the ceremony.

"Let's sit together!" Amelie said.

"Sure." Alex said simply.

The three sat down together and waited for the ceremony to start.

Soon, an older but muscular man walked up onto the stage and cleared his throat.

"You think he's the principal?" Amelie asked.

"I do; he may be suppressing, but his aura...he's dangerous." Alex said, looking at the older man.

"My name is William Macarthur; I am the principal of this prestigious academy, and I will be the first to officially welcome all of you young and bright minds into this school's doors. You will spend years here learning the intricacies of magic and martial arts and how to apply both in combat. This will not be an easy road; many of you will fail and leave to find your own paths, but those of you who succeed may just reach heights unimaginable. The professors of this academy will not be the only help you receive, but your mentors who selected you will help you as best they can; however, at the end of the day, your success depends purely on yourselves. You will have to prove your worth here not only to the goddesses who watch over our beloved academy but also to yourselves. Good luck to each of you, and I hope to see you progress not only in your talents but in your potential as people as well. Have a good day, all of you."

The principal walked off the stage, and a woman in her forties stepped up to the podium.

"New students, find one of our various teachers to learn your homeroom numbers; that will be all for the opening ceremony." the woman said.

"That woman was kind of cold..." Amelie said.

"She was straight to the point; after all, the principal laid it thick in his speech." Claire commentated.

Alex stood up and walked over to the teachers to get his homeroom number.

"Alex, wait for us!" Amelie said.

Amelie and Claire chased after Alex as he was in line to receive his number.

"Alex Blackwood? Your homeroom number is Class 1-B, and here's your full schedule." One of the teachers said while handing him his schedule.

"Thanks." Alex said as he walked away to read his schedule.

"Amelie Morrigan?" Your homeroom number is Class 1-C, and your full schedule is here." The same teacher said handing her the schedule.

"Shoot, I'm in a different class; Claire, you're the last hope." Amelie thought to herself.

"Claire? Oh, right, here's your schedule, and your homeroom is Class 1-A." the teacher said.

"So neither of us got into the same class as Alex?" Claire thought to herself angrily.

"Sounds like we won't be in homeroom together." Alex said.

"There's a chance we're in the other classes together; let's share our schedules!" Amelie said.

"Alright..." Alex said before being interrupted.

"All students classes begin in five minutes; hurry up to your classes!" The vice principal said.

"Oh..." Amelie said.

"Well, we can see throughout the day if we have the same classes." Alex said.

"Right..." Amelie said disappointed.

Their plan had just run into its first hiccup. They wanted to have one of them always with Alex, but that failed, and now their best hope is that they share some of the other classes together.

"Anyways, we better get going." Alex said before taking off for his first homeroom class.

Both of the girls sighed before rushing to their own classes.

"He could've at least walked with us!" Amelie thought to herself.

*Two minutes later*

Alex had arrived in front of a door that had a sign above it saying "Class 1-B" and walked inside. The class had about fifteen or so students currently sitting inside at their respective desks.

Alex took a seat in the back corner and laid his head down while they waited for the teacher to arrive in class.

However, the class was soon filled with mumbles.

"What is she doing here?"

"What's going on?"

"Why is she walking towards that guy?"

Alex looked up and saw a stunning sight. A girl with long pink hair and sparkling blue eyes.

"So we meet again, Alex Blackwood." the girl said.

It took a minute for Alex to realize that he had seen this girl before. During the royal parade for the first princess of the Empire, Seraphina Waltz.

"Princess? What are you doing here?" Alex was curious as to why she seemed to come just to talk to him.

"I want to ask you to do something for me." Seraphina said.

"And that is?" Alex asked.

"Renounce Freya Crawford as your mentor and become my student instead." Seraphina said with a beautiful smile on her face.

"WHAT????!!!!!"

The classroom erupted after Seraphina's sudden proclamation.

However, immediately afterwards, the door to the classroom opened again.

"Ms. Seraphina I understand you may be royalty, but could you please abide by school rules and head to your homeroom? You're a second year, and this is the first year floor." The professor spoke kindly to Seraphina.

"Fine, but Alex, I want my answer soon." Seraphina said walking out of the classroom.

And suddenly Alex had the full attention of the classroom; whispers spread around the room, and some people were even angry at him now.

"Well now, let's start the day proper. My name is Professor Azora, and I will be your homeroom instructor this year. Every day we will meet here before your classes start on your schedule. I will also be monitoring your grades, so if you start to dip below what we consider the standard, I will know about it." Professor Azora introduced herself.

"Now for attendance." Professor Azora said while starting to go down the list of names on her chart until she reached a certain someone's name.

"Alex...Blackwood."

"Here." Alex said without putting any effort into it.

"I taught your sister last year; will you give me the same trouble she did?" Professor Azora asked.

"No." Alex said clearly.

"Good, at least that's one good thing-" Professor Azora said before being interrupted.

"I'll probably be worse." Alex said with little emotion.

And suddenly, any hope Azora had for this being a calm year disappeared with four words.
