I usually write until I use up everything my brain has to give me in one sitting. Although I am no English teacher, my grammar might only include some small mistakes since I do one proof even on my exam papers ?. Anyway, nonetheless I can guarantee that my chapters will be consistent throughout the entire novel, but I'll need feedback on "If YOU reader like lots of minor chapters or one long one." (Minor is basically chapter 1, about 800-1000 words, takes 2-3 hours to write If idea plan is ready and 10 minutes more to think of a suitable title. As for one long one it would be 5-20 times more longer, depends on how much I'm comfortable with word count per chapter, after all writing an entire volume in one chapter is no good.)

Fearfulness Is Instinctive

The so called <Mind Transmission> was nothing, but a simple and crude spell that would compress your thoughts into mana and transmit it directly to someone's mind.

Even though it is very simple and doesn't take much effort beside fine mana control and transmission through the mana in air, normally no sane magician would allow another magician to send you <Mind Transmissions> since you can't actually know what kind of information you would get and if this information won't cause you dizziness and headache for being too much.

For magicians being clear-minded is absolute since you need a clear mind to cast spells fast and efficiently lest you use up too much mana or fail to cast spells.

Although the capacity for magicians to store information increases as they progress in their attainments if someone who has high attainment in magic sent a lot of information to a ordinary person they could literally fry their brains with overload of information.

As for <Mind Defense>, it was gibberish as it wasn't even qualified as a spell according to other magicians since it was only mana that was wrapped around a magicians brain to block any invasion from outside forces.

There are and were spells that were meant specifically to protect a magicians brain, but those got discarded as new inventions came out such as charms and amulets meant specifically to defend a magicians brain and other senses such as hearing, eyesight, smell, taste and touch.

There also was another reason for it, that being, the brain was a very complex organ of any creature and to this day it hasn't been fully understood.

Also not every magician could map out their brains to protect it without any holes for others to exploit and it was also a mandatory for magicians to being able to protect their brains as it was their most important organ.

Even if a magician lost it's arm, legs or other body parts as long as the brain was intact all the rest could be healed.

Laurel Reynolds took out a baby's fist sized stone from under his military uniform through his collar which was hanging like a necklace that had an peculiar array on it that was dimly glowing and poured his mana into it.

As Laurel's mana poured into the stone, the stone stopped glowing and no longer showed the array, it was as if the array was carved deep into the stone; away from all eyes.

After doing so he looked up from the stone that he stuffed back under his military uniform and said with a heavy voice,"Alright Sophia, go ahead and transmit what you want and make it quick, best if it's in one transmit!"

Sophia Merlin who had seen everything Laurel did was a bit pleased since that necklace was not only meant to protect his mind, but also calm it,"Seems like he knows his shortcomings as someone who gets angry quickly.", thought Sophia inwardly.

As for WeiZhe who could also see what Laurel Reynolds did, didn't care at all if he used a tool to guard his mind, but still his impression of him dropped.

Since according to WeiZhe a battle-mage is supposed able to at least protect his mind without magic tools as the magic tool might get destroyed or malfunction in a battle and a mage can only truly trust his mana and soulbound tools such as a wand of certain high level.

Sophia who heard Laurel started to organise her thoughts and compressed them into mana to be sent to Laurel.

Sophia muttered softly,"Mind Transmission.", and the <Mind Transmission> was sent to Laurel,"Me here, Sophia. So the thing I wanted to tell you was about that me and my platoon under Captain Michel went to Bilder Mountain some time ago to scout a spotting of a beast that was able to cover the entire city in it's mana."

Laurel who received the <Mind Transmission> was stunned from it's content,"Entire city!!", shouted Laurel subconsciously in a low and heavy voice.

Looking around and seeing that everyone was confusedly staring at him, while their faces started to return to normal from the shock they got; that a Ancient beast had appeared here, Laurel relaxed a bit seeing that no one understood what his words meant.

"Are your Mind defenses turned off, Sophia?", asked Laurel quickly while he tried to suppress his shock.

Sophia just nodded and said no more, waiting for Laurel's response from her previous <Mind Transmission>.

Laurel quickly organized his thoughts and sent them to ask more from Sophia via the same spell <Mind Transmission>:

"If the beast covered the entire city with it's mana why wasn't anything destroyed or anyone strong enough notice it?", asked Laurel.

"Well, it seemed to only spread it's mana, but didn't release any mana outward or else the entire city would have been in panic mode.", said Sophia.

"Wait. How come it passed through the defensive magic array?", asked Laurel with a doubtful expression on his face.

Sophia sighed and explained,"It seems you don't know how the array works. As long as the mana doesn't contain any evil or hostile thoughts, the defensive magic array won't block it."

Laurel fell into deep thought as his mind churned scenarios and asked cautiously,"Could it be a Ancient Magical beast?"

Sophia who heard it widened her eyes at that possibility, although Ordinary beasts and Ancient beasts were hard to contain and kill due to their raw physical strength and defense, they weren't as annoying and hard to deal with as Magical beasts.

As Magical beasts had inborn abilities on top of their raw physical power and their abilities also grew as they advanced, but Ancient Magical beasts were totally of their own class as they could contend against dozens of Ancient beasts as long as they had the right abilities.

Sophia shook her head after some thinking and said,"We couldn't confirm if the beast was Ancient or Magical as we came to the conclusion of it being a Magical beast due to its ability to conceal itself completely from our tracker."

"What should we do then? We can't confirm anything and if I send a request for help without any evidence I'll definitely be Court Martialed for wasting time and energy of the Main Army stationed in the city.", said Laurel with a helpless expression.

Sophia just stayed silent and put her Mind defenses on after sending one last<Mind Transmission>,"This isn't my place to make decisions. I only wanted to inform whoever was incharge of this are of the city walls after hearing the shout for help."

Laurel also noticed that Sophia put on her Mind defenses on so he didn't try to send any messages and only activated his own Mind defenses.

As he did so, one of the more braver people who wanted to enter the city asked loudly with a tone of indigence,"What are you going to do, sir? Can we go into the city?"

Laurel stayed quiet as he stared at the man who shouted and asked him. If the situation wasn't as it was he really wanted to choke that man by draining all the air around him via magic.

He was already stressed and now some nobody dared to ask about his authority, but he didn't get angry since his necklace calmed him down, so he was able to think through clearly as his mind churned as a lot of different answers popped in his mind which he could say to the people.

He turned his head around and focused on a guard near the gate and loudly said with a gloomy expression,"Close the gates! We can't allow any beasts into the city. Increase the amount of guards and inform other entry points of a beast spotting near the city walls!"

Everyone who heard him was angered since they had been standing in queue for a very long time and started to protest:

"YOU CAN'T CLOSE THE GATES!"

"We need to get into the city to get our brothers treated!"

"There's many thing I need to tend to in the city!"

"Who do you think you are, prick? Do you know who I am?!"

"We demand for you to keep the gates open!"

"..."

Laurel who heard these had his face turned scarlet and veins protruding from his forehead even though his necklace was constantly trying to calm him down his anger wasn't subsiding.

But it kept up building until he started releasing a very heavy killing intent at least two times more heavier than what Sophia and her platoon was capable of releasing, albeit it wasn't able to cover as much as area as the entire platoon could.

As others sensed the killing intent, they quieted down, but didn't stop showing their unwilling and indigant expressions.

Taking a deep breath, Laurel said again the same thing, but in a announcement way,"The gates will be closed for an unknown period time. I know that many have matters to tend to, but as a Major from the Army that's stationed at the city, my primary duty is to protect the city from any threats. I hope you can understand and don't make my job any more difficult!"

As they heard Laurel's explanation many had their expression ease a lot, though some continued to argue.

Laurel was about to unleash his mana to oppress everyone who wasn't listening, but continued to cause trouble without thinking from his perspective of view.

Just as he was about to have his overbearing Count Level Aura unleashed on others there was a slight booming sound coming from the sky.

WeiZhe who had seen everything happen from start to end sighed and thought,"How can it become so complicated and annoying.", WeiZhe also looked toward where the booming sound came from and had his right arm slightly tremble.

No one noticed it, but a staff that was as black as void itself along with some white spots looking like stars, quietly slipped away from WeiZhez storage bracelet and entered the void through a very small void crack only allowing the staff to pass through it.

As this was happening, everyone who also heard the booming sound coming from the sky looked up to see what caused it, only to hear the sound get louder and louder as a faint Ancient aura started to descend upon the ground.

Fana who was also looking at the sky now was devoid of blood from her face as she paled and shouted via wind magic,"It's the same aura! It's the Ancient beast!"

Laurel and Sophia who heard it, including everyone in and out of the city, who heard her turned their eyes towards the voice as their eyes went wide with extreme fear and disbelief.

Rick who was near WeiZhe loudly gulped down and muttered,"I-I'm so dead."

WeiZhe who was near him only blinked with a grin as a slight curve came on his eyes that looked especially evil under the dark night sky.

Note:

I changed the way I address spells in the novel. Instead of '(Spell name)' it will be <(spell name)> while in a sentence of explanation or plot continuation.

Alright here you go, eat it up. I'll post couple more if you can feed me some power stones in the next coming week.
