Chapter fourteen

"You won't go anywhere," Ivy announced and paused momentarily to let her words sink in. "Sofia will be the one to leave," she added coldly.

Her words echoed around the garden. Sofia remained frozen where she stood, disbelief filling all of her to the core. Her eyelashes fluttered. Her tears streaming threatening to fall.

Her hands shook, holding the hems of her dress, trying hard to calm her breathing.

Serena took a deep breath. Her eyes glowed in accomplishment, her stepsister had long forgotten that blood was often thicker than water. She could forget how to love her parents due to being misled but deep down, no one could ever replace her in her family.

It filled her heart with joy to see it firsthand. To see that to her mother, no bond was more important than hers.

"Mo..mother," Sofia cried out. Her voice broke from being caught off guard by her mother.

Ivy's stance didn't falter from listening to her. There was nothing that Sofia could do to take back the words that she said. No excuse to get herself out of the situation.

It would have been easier having it simply been her mother. But the presence of grandma Betina complicated everything. The old woman wasn't so easily fooled especially when she didn't like her.

"I didn't mean it, mother," Sofia said taking control of her emotions. She ran over to Ivy's side and held her mother's hand. "I was angry. So much has happened tonight mother," she let out with her tears flowing down her cheeks.

Ivy averted her gaze from Sofia. She didn't want to see the pain of her child and end up being unfair to Serena again.

"You took Damian from me without even asking me mother. Didn't you once think how this would affect me?" Sofia pointed out in tears.

Ivy clenched her fists, the girl had a point. The decision of marrying Damian to Serena came out of the blue and most have been a shock to Sofia. The whole night she had dedicated her time to taking care of Serena but she had not gotten the time to talk to Sofia about it properly.

A glint of guilt flashed before her eyes. Sofia caught it and smirked. She found her way of getting out of being ousted from the house and losing everything that she had worked so long for.

"You claim not to differentiate between me and Serena but tell me, how is what you did fair to me?" she questioned hitting hard to gain her mother's sympathy.

"How can you ask her that after what you have done?" Marcel intervened pulling Ivy away from Sofia.

He was furious, everyone could see that he was struggling to keep his rage in check. Sofia was terrified of his anger but this was her chance of turning the tables around and finally getting at least one win that night.

Everything has been turning up Serena since the day began and she had grown tired of it.

"Did you even ask me before handing her so much?" she raised her questions to her father. "I'm elder to Serena and I turned of age a long time ago. My wedding to Damian has been planned for over a year without anything truly happening," she started to say and stopped.

Her eyes seemed distant as she stared at Serena's back. Serena felt the girl's eyes on her back. She didn't let go of her grandmother or stand straight. Serena rested her head on Betina's shoulder. Her eyes darkened with anger, her blood boiling at the fact that Sofia still had the nerve to try and twist the story.

Her smile had fallen, waiting to see what Sofia had to say. Her mind racing with dark thoughts of getting rid of the cruel conniving girl that had leeched her way into their family.

"Was my wedding ever going to happen. Or were you simply saving Damian for Serena all along, Dad?" Sofia asked shooting her gaze at him.

Marcel was taken aback by her words. He had heard some whispers of that from the guests after the announcement was made. But he didn't think he would be accused of having anything to do with it. He was just as surprised as the rest of the world when his wife made the announcement.

"I had nothing to d..."

"You can't expect me to believe that you had no idea about it. You are the head of the family, the decision most have run through you," Sofia said interrupting him with another set of accusations. "You can throw me out of the house for getting angry but don't ever claim that the two of you ever loved me as much as you love Serena," she uttered and walked forward.

Serena smiled, relieved that her parents didn't fall for her words and change their minds about their decision to let the witch leave their lives forever.

"Wait," Ivy stated grabbing Sofia's hand and stopping her before she could leave.

Serena let go of Betina, she turned around and faced her mother. Begin a placed her hand on Serena's shoulder and squeezed it gently as though preparing her for the disappointment to come.

Marcel looked at his wife in question. Wondered what she was up to now, with his mother and Serena keenly watching her move. He didn't find it wise for Ivy to hold Sofia back from leaving.

"What?" Sofia snapped shooting her gaze at Ivy. "Anything else you wish to let out of your chest?"

Ivy stepped forward. She ran her eyes back and forth between Serena and Sofia. On one hand, was her flesh and blood who had threatened to end her life and on the other hand, was her adopted child who was hurt by her choices.

There had never been a worse time for her to be a mother than at that moment when she had to choose between her two daughters. Not knowing what will happen if she makes the wrong choice at that moment.

"You are right," she sighed.
