Ginx! You Owe Me A Life

The wind from the "outdoor" part of the panic room softly blew against Joe's face and it woke him up. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the sliding doors that led to the garden were open and Lydia was sitting on the bench, staring at the projection of stars in the ceiling that now looked like the night sky.

He got off the mattress and walked over to the door to speak to her about everything that was going on.

"Hey," He called out to her with a smile on his face.

"Hey," She responded and smiled back at him.

Lydia looked at the stars again and was deep in thought about what their future may hold. Joe did the same thing and they were both silent for about a minute before Joe ended it.

"Can you tell me what happened to you, after you ran away from home?" Joe asked.

"A lot of things happened to me throughout those four years, Joe. I don't think I'll be able to tell it all in just one night," She replied.

"Okay, you don't have to tell me everything. How about you tell me about the first time you used your powers after you ran away from home?" He suggested.

"Why do you want to know that?" She wondered.

"Well, after Kurt and I ran away from the orphanage and I discovered my powers, we used to have so much fun with it. We'd steal frozen chickens and I'd roast them with my bare hands and we had so much fun. Didn't you do any stuff like that?" He asked.

"Unlike you, I didn't have a friend in those four years to do fun stuff with using my powers. They weren't instruments for fun, they were tools for survival. I was a young girl, all alone on the street without a place to go, left without protection from the predators on every street corner," She said and a lone tear escaped her eye.

Joe could tell that she was in a bad place. Something serious must have happened to her, something that changed her forever. He could feel it in his bones and he wanted to know what it was.

"What happened to you?" He asked.

"I don't want to talk about it," Lydia said and looked away.

Joe decided to respect her wishes and stop prying her for answers. He decided to do something to help make her feel better so he moved closer to her.

"Can I sit next to you?" He asked.

She made some room for him on the bench and he sat beside her.

"Hey, I realized when we were being chased by the Ginx that you'd never made ice before," He said.

"No, I haven't. I've only made fire, wind, light and occasionally, I make things disappear," She said with a chuckle.

"Cool! I've never made anything disappear," He said and opened up his palm in front of her.

"Well, have you ever done this with your fire?" He asked.

His palm ignited into flames and he shaped the fire into a little girl playing with her dog.

"Wow! That's so beautiful. How are you doing that?" Lydia asked with awe in her eyes.

"I just think about it and it happens," Joe said.

He put out the flame and was about to say something but wasn't able to because of the loud noise.

The security alarms suddenly started blaring out and the loud noise woke Mr Philip up from his slumber.

He put on his glasses which had slipped off his face and stared at the screens in front of him. He could see on the monitors that the Ginx had broken through the electric gate and fences and was now in the house searching for them.

Micah and Kurt woke up as well and the latter was shocked by the noise.

"What's going on?" Kurt asked.

"That's the alarm," Micah answered and stood up.

He ran towards the surveillance room and the others followed him so they could inquire about what was going on.

"Dad, what's happening?" Micah asked.

"The Ginx, he's here and he's in the house," Mr Philip said.

"Well, we're safe in here, aren't we?" Kurt asked.

"We are! No amount of Ginx magic can break into this room but as I said before, we can't stay in here forever. We have to deal with this," Mr Philip said.

"So, what do we do?" Lydia asked.

"I guess we're just going to have to wait until he leaves," Mr Philip suggested.

They watched the live footage of the cameras and could see the Ginx searching through the house, damaging the furniture while he looked for them. He moved around the house for a few minutes before walking up to the panic room door. He stopped moving and stared at the door for a few seconds.

"What's he doing?" Joe asked.

"He sees the runes. He knows he can't get in so he's charging up his powers to try and break down the door," Mr Philip said.

"But it won't work, right? Micah asked.

"It can't!" Philip said assuredly.

Both of the Ginx's hands glowed brightly and he punched the door as hard as he could and made a dent in it. The assassin hammered away on the door, over and over again but his punches seemed to have no real effect because of the runes.

He realized that he wouldn't be able to get in this way so he stopped hitting the door. He looked at the camera, knowing that they were watching him.

"You think you're safe in there? You're not. My sire will not be denied his victory. The seeds of his groin will bear no fruit before the crow calls," The Ginx said into the camera and walked away.

Through the camera, they saw him walk out of the house and out the gate before he disappeared into the night.

Joe and Lydia sighed in relief after the Ginx left. This was a close call and if it hadn't been for Philip's panic room, who knows what would have happened to them.

"Thank God he's gone. That guy gives me the creeps. And what did he mean by that thing he said before he left?" Kurt asked.

"Yeah, that sounded weird," Lydia agreed and they all looked at Philip for an answer.

Philip knew exactly what the Ginx meant by what he said but he couldn't tell them. He couldn't let Lydia and Joe know that their father was the one who sent the assassin after them or that their "destiny" meant they'd fight against the man who sired them.

"I have no idea what he meant. It must have been some line or phrase that only Troleyadians understand," Philip lied.

He stood up and went to the door of the panic room and was about to put in the code so he could open it.

"Dad, what are you doing?" Micah asked.

"The Ginx is gone and I need to check on the house and make sure everything is alright," Philip said.

"But, it's not safe..." Micah said.

"Relax, Micah, it'll be fine. The Ginx wants the twins, not us. He knows he can't get them here so he won't come back until they leave. Don't worry," Philip said.

He opened the door and locked it up when he went outside. He went over to the living room and was picking up some broken furniture when he heard a footstep behind him.

Back inside the panic room, Micah was still in the surveillance room and was speaking to the others so he wasn't facing the screen. Kurt was the one who noticed on the screen that Philip wasn't alone out there.

"Oh no!" Kurt exclaimed.

They saw him staring at the screen and looked at themselves and were all shocked to see that the Ginx was still in the house and was standing right behind Philip.

"Dad!" Micah screamed out as they saw the Ginx use his telekinetic power to pull Philip towards him and grabbed his throat.

"Look what I've caught," The Ginx said.
