Those that were part of his Squadron had a look of unwillingness to fail the trial. Once that happened, it wouldn't matter if they were in an alliance or not, only those camps that still had their flag as well as a few other flags to show that they had conquered camps, would be allowed to proceed to the next trial.
So in a way, even though the alliance was for everyone to work together, it was merely a group made out of convenience to protect themselves from the onslaught of the bigger camps.
They had hoped that once they were done conquering as many camps as they could get their hands on, they would end up splitting the flags amongst themselves according to those that performed better than others.
