The Dead Tell Tales

October 3, 1985.

Even as workers used heavy equipment to scrape away layers of earth at the San Dimas construction site, paleontologist Marilyn Morgan searched the area on foot carrying a small brush, an ice pick and a hammer.

Morgan was looking for the fossilized remains of marine life from an era. Scientists say it was about 10 million years ago, when the San Gabriel Valley was part of the Pacific Ocean.

"The things that we pick up will help people in the future understand what happened on this planet in the past," said Morgan back then.

Fossilized Remains of Whales

Morgan discovered fossil remains of a whale, including two six-foot-long jawbones, along with bone fragments from sea lions and birds and several fossilized leaves. One year before, a colleague of Morgan's, Diana Weir, discovered the three-foot skull of a whale at another construction site a mile away.

The fossils from both sites have been shipped to the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History for study. Museum officials say the discoveries are significant because they are among the very few fossils recovered from the San Gabriel Valley.

And now, looking at the current time on October 19, 2030.

While there were no longer any tangible evidence of fossilized matters, there might be molecular essences of other prehistoric animals, intermixed with lava and sediments, and found itself pushed away from the pacific ocean into somewhere around Mount San Antonio, the highest peak of San Gabriel Mounts.

That was saying if a technology that could differentiate the history of particles and elements even exists.

"Unless." Serotonin-1 took numerous photo samples of the mysterious site with the camera built in its eyes. "A technology far more advanced than our current civilization did it."

"Aren't we, the H-dolls, already far more advanced than the current civilization?" asked Noire-1 while eyeing on the mystical surroundings. "Also, is it okay for our squad to continue what we are doing instead of investigating the unknown beast that Phenethylamine-1 found? Dopamine-1 said on the Hive-Server that neither Aleph and the Creator moved away from the main site."

Just like what Noire-1 stated, no H-dolls from the first batch of production were given any new command. Endorphin-1 continued to do selective logging, and Dopamine-1 carried all the woods to the site.

And because Serotonin-1 didn't do anything either, there must be a reason, thought Noire-1.

"That is not efficient, per say." Serotonin-1 tilted its head in a creepy way. "If we take on other tasks in the middle of our current progress, then the only thing we gain is the realization of time we waste. If you still have the recording of the Creator's conversation, then you would know why we even bother to go here."

"Production of our models?" Noire-1 mirrored its partner by tilting its head, but instead of creepy, it was endearing.

"Correctment~! If I'm to assume, our Creator is currently conducting a further production for the next batch of squad. As for the both of us, we have an important mission of our own." With a sneer, Serotonin-1 lethargically pointed to the subject of analysis. "Like investigating this thing."

A three meters long thin purple flesh protruded from the ground. On the end of the sinking flesh, was a sign of continuous segments separated from the protruding purple flesh. It smells putrid, yet a little tangy unlike any kind of flesh.

Because of the sunset, the color slightly blends with the surrounding subalpine environments. With how there were still sands and soil residues on the surface of the mysterious object, it seemed like this thing had been ascending from the ground recently.

"Ah! It seems like the second batch of squad has already been in service." Serotonin-1 said excitedly. "I've already connected with Serotonin-2, it seems like we will be meeting with lotsa friends the moment we get back to the main base."

"What do Serotonin-2 say?"

"They are on the way to the designated location of the unknown beast. I'm currently filling up what I know to my 'second', in case that there are any correlations with our findings over here… Huh?"

Just now, Serotonin-1 captured a rhythmic pulse that encapsulated the mysterious fleshy object. The pattern was erratic, but there was a notable sign of a continuous travel length of the pulse that was far more massive than what it looks to be on the surface.

Serotonin-1 immediately sprinted in searching for something as Noire-1 followed suit.

"There is a huge convergent reaction beneath the surface of this place! We need to find another location of the protruding biomass!" said Serotonin while running in a hurry.

"Third a clock from your direction, I saw a gleaming purple light under the bathing sunlight. Estimatedly, 140 meters at a lower altitude."

"Alrighty!"

"The thing you said about the essences of primordial organisms, won't they be far less evolved from anything in the prehistoric animals and to our current era?" said Noire-1

"Of course! Unless the reanimated animals are actually focused from that era! But that is not the case!!"

Both of them arrived at the gleaming purple biomass, it had the same pulsation pattern from the earlier biomass albeit in a slightly differing pace. With every moment passed, the thing seemed to be slowly ascending from the ground.

"It seems like your earlier guess is true."

"Again, that is not the case." Serotonin-1 caressed the back of its head. "Let's say that this phenomenon happened sparsely in an unknown estimated area with neither correlative timing with the other subjects. That means the unknown beast that P-1 encountered is only one of the many biomass that have successfully revived."

"So you say-"

"Indeed." Serotonin-1 grinned wickedly while pressing its index to the cranium. "This is bad~bad mass revival is possibly happening all around the world as we speak!"

As for the thing they found.

It was the head of a mammoth, five times bigger than the adult size of today's elephant. There were not two but eight tusks, while there seemed to be a clean cut on the front where the trunk was removed. The eyes were akin to molten bowling balls, and reflected on the gleaming purple surface of those eyes, were the face of the H-dolls who prepared for the worse.

"That's not all, isn't it?" said Noire-1 with indifferent expression.

"Of course, or else, I won't be sending a flurry of messages to our Creator and Leader at the main site."

The clean cut on the trunk was new, and there was no leftover of the detached part of the body anywhere within the surrounding vicinity.

Whatever the kind of beast nor monsters that were brought up from the skin of earth, they also bring along something far more intelligent.

Someone or something had cut the trunk of the mysterious mammoth-like beast.
