Chapter 9

"Knock, knock!" shouted Erica, from outside Ashley's house the next morning.

Ashley went running to open the door.

"Hello, come in," said Ashley.

Erica entered and removed her shoes.

"Did you check to see if the note was still there?" asked Ashley.

"Yes, it was still there," said Erica, in a disappointed tone.

"Does that mean the person didn't see it?" asked Ashley.

"Maybe," replied Erica.

"Do you think the person or people would even respond to us?" asked Ashley.

"Let's go sit beside the window upstairs and see if anyone comes by," suggested Erica.

"Okay," said Ashley. She led the way upstairs.

Ashley and Erica sat near the window to keep an eye on the note they had strategically placed in front of the shrub.

"It's getting a bit boring staring out the window, and waiting for something to happen," said Ashley.

"You're right," said Erica. "And nothing ever happens when we sit and wait for it."

"Do you have any ideas of what we should do?" asked Ashley.

Erica thought for a moment, then said, "We could leave a camera running here beside the window and record everything. That way we can go do something else while the camera is recording."

"That's a great idea!" exclaimed Ashley.

Ashley located the camera and handed it to Erica, who set it up beside the window.

"It's aimed on the note below," sighed Erica.

"Let's go to my room and play some games!" said Ashley.

"Okay," said Erica, following Ashley to her room.

They played games for a while, then Erica suggested, "Let's go check on the note."

"Good idea," said Ashley.

"Wait! Where are you going?" asked Erica.

"To the camera," replied Ashley. "Why? Where are you going?"

"You can't even see the note from upstairs," said Erica.

"You can't, but I can," said Ashley.

"What do you mean?" asked Erica. "My eyesight is better than yours, and even I can't see it because it is white paper camouflaged on white snow, but I'll show you. Let's check the window first."

"Fine," said Ashley, rolling her eyes.

Erica went to the window, Ashley followed her.

"The note is not there anymore," said Erica. "Or it is camouflaged. Maybe we should go outside to double-check."

"Really?" asked Ashley.

"Yes," said Erica.

Ashley started to grab the camera, but Erica stopped her.

"What are you doing?" asked Erica.

"Me? I'm ending the recording."

"I said let's double-check before you end that recording," said Erica.

"I'm sure it's not there," said Ashley, then she immediately ended the video before Erica could protest. "Let's watch the video."

"Fine," said Erica.

Ashley pressed play and the video began.
