Project Sparrow

As tensions rise between nations, millions of people are caught in the middle. Death tolls rise and the value of human life is discarded as governments solve their disputes by throwing as many bodies as they can at each other. The world now feeding the flames of destruction with hatred and death, faces yet another world war. In the midst of it all, several nations improved their technology and incorporated it within their weapons. The Republic of Lanston, formerly France, Belgium and Germany, led the arms race and began a secret supersoldier program as a trump card to win the impending war. Taking disabled veterans and soldiers who are no longer fit for combat and turning them to lab rats for body augmentations. Wanting to turn them to mindless killing machines, failing and killing most of their experiments in the process then calling them a necessary sacrifice to achieve power over all their rivals. Enter Hilbert Straüss, one of the few who had successful augmentations and is considered the strongest out of the program. They operated under the grid and were mainly used before to kill anyone who opposes Lanston's government. As the war slowly creeps up on the world, Lanston activates the program once more and requested to have all available field agents to be attached to the military. The world will now see a new generation of weapons that will forever change the face of warfare.

Reclaiming Land

Gunfire drowned out the screams of the enemy soldiers as they retreated. Several of their tanks were now immobilized after being hit with tank-busters.

"Don't stop shooting!" Phillip shouted as Johann ran past him.

"I'll take care of the tanks." Johann said as he threw a grenade through an open hatch.

"Eight, nine, ten. They sure run fast." Teresa complained as she reloaded her rifle.

Richard's squad, along with Edward's, helped resupply Roger's company. With haste, they came back to support Phillip's squad. Pushing the enemies back to the foot of the hill and giving them room to breathe.

"Phillip! Get your ass back to the reserve line, we'll take it from here!" Roger shouted as he stood out of the hatch.

"Yes major! We'll just finish off these tanks and be out of your hair." Phillip replied as he threw a satchel charge inside the turret of a soviet tank.

"I just finished up here as well, let's not overstretch ourselves." Johann added before running back to the others.

Roger's company covered their retreat and bought some time for them. Once they arrived back in the trenches, Jacques was talking to a soldier from a different unit.

"They only seem to be securing the breach in the wall. The Colonel wants your battalion to push them back outside." The soldier stated.

"Tell him that we will but you need to draw their attention to your side of the wall. Just distract them for a moment, a moment is all we need." Jacques ordered the messenger.

"Major, we took them by surprise and disabled three of their tanks." Phillip butted in.

"Rally the men. We're gonna seal the breach, even if it costs us more lives." Jacques replied before taking his rifle.

Phillip nodded and told the others before going to Richard and Edward. After a brief pause, Jacques climbed up the trench and everyone else followed behind him as he ran down the hill. As they passed Roger's company, they also followed behind the charge while shooting at the enemies around the breach of the wall. Jacques then stopped at the foot of the hill and went down on one knee before shooting a Russian soldier.

"Ответный огонь! Не позволяйте им отталкивать нас!" A Russian officer shouted as he took cover behind a tank.

"Don't shoot my ass!" Johann shouted as he ran towards the enemies.

"Now that he said it, I might as well do." Teresa jokingly said as she shot a tank commander peeking out of his hatch.

Phillip took a handful of men in his squad and flanked to catch the enemy off guard. He threw an anti-tank grenade and disabled the tracks of a tank.

"I'll cover you. Toss this inside the tank and close the hatch." Phillip ordered a soldier as he handed an anti-tank grenade.

"Keep firing! Push them back!" Jacques shouted as he walked forward while shooting at the enemies.

"Follow the major!" Edward screamed as he ran towards Jacques.

"Request for artillery, send it beyond the border as they're retreating." Richard ordered to a radio man.

The russian soldiers began retreating, some of them were shot by the officer as they ran past the breach in the wall. They were seen as deserters and according to order 277, they are deemed as traitors to the Soviet Union. The russian officer was in the middle of reloading when a bullet hit him clean between the eyes. Teresa smirked and licked her lips before loading another round in the chamber.

"This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I'm getting bored, maybe I should go with Johann instead." Teresa pondered before dropping her rifle.

"Teresa, watch Jacques' back." Richard ordered.

"Copy that captain." Teresa replied as she unbuttoned her coat.

Teresa drew her knives and with three in both hands, charged towards the enemy. Johann ducked down and rolled on his shoulder as one of Teresa's knives flies overhead and hits an enemy on the chest.

"Were you trying to hit me?" Johann asked before glancing back at Teresa.

"Me? Do that? You're absurd!" Teresa replied before running past Johann and tackling a soldier.

"This isn't the first time you tried to kill me just to be number two." Johann added before shooting two enemies.

"Johann, Teresa! On me!" Jacques shouted before jumping out of cover.

The duo glanced at each other before following Jacques towards an enemy tank. Jacques tossed a grenade inside and waits for it to explode, after the loud bang, Jacques fired a few shots inside and kills a tank crew mate.

"Their tank crews are crippled. They'll be forced to retreat now." Jacques stated before jumping down.

"We'll clean up the rest. Find a way to seal that breach." Johann replied.

"I'll see you in a bit major." Teresa added before winking.

Jacques nodded and looked around for a moment. Then a bright idea came into his mind. He ordered Roger's company to push the disabled tanks towards the breach to act as a blockade.

"Are you sure this will work?" Roger asked.

"For now, it will do. Since they can't move them, it'll be a temporary fix." Jacques replied.

"Major! We finished rounding up the last few of them." Johann stated as he walked up Jacques.

"I guess we made up for our losses?" Teresa asked while she buttoned up her coat.

"You could put it that way. I don't feel like we did. It's not enough." Jacques answered before looking away.

"We got the wall back and secured the border, that's the important thing." Roger added.

"Major, word from the Colonel. He commends us for our victory here. He also wishes us luck." Phillip stated.

Jacques walked over to the bunker and went on the radio. He switched to a different channel and waited for a response from the other side of the line.

"This is Major Enfield speaking. Is he ready?" Jacques inquired.

"He should be ready for deployment by tomorrow. We'll have him sent out by then." A voice over the radio responded.

Jacques dropped the transmission and sat down by the table. He slipped his hand inside his coat and took out something wrapped in cloth. He opened it and it was a cookie, he took a bite of it and leaned back against the seat.

"The prodigal son. He's leaving home again." Jacques mumbled.
