New Rules

Heron returned to Amriel, and was relieved to find nothing had gone wrong in his absence. No emergencies had happened though paperwork had piled up a bit. But that was fine. A bit of a pain but fine.

He got to work almost immediately though on drafting the proposal he was going to push through. He worked very hard at making it read just right to not be completely seen as too radical. When he ran it past the advisors there was some argument but he overruled them all.

Within a month he had officially legalized magic. This didn't mean it was all smooth sailing from there though. There was a lot of arguments against his announcement that he had to deal with. He listened with a smile, and always gave the spiel about how magic could prove useful in an emergency.

Due to his level headed way of speaking, slowly people stopped trying to talk him out of it. They still grumbled, but it was dying down some. It probably helped that his father backed him up, thus reinforcing the idea that this wasn't just some teenager's whim.

It was a nice gesture from his father and Heron thanked him for it.

There was some unrest that festered underneath the surface, and so far no one had taken advantage of the sudden loosening of restriction on all magic. Heron was not too surprised by this. He had changed the law, but people still had been used to generations of anti-magic policies. Most sorcerers had probably left the country to go somewhere else – there were probably few that were like Asrar and were prepared to risk their life for something they couldn't help.

And there was also the problem that just because it was now legal, that didn't mean there wouldn't be persecution. He could make it legal but if a mob took it into their heads that they didn't care, well… would be magic users would be wary of such a situation. He would of course do his best to prevent mobs, and the younger knights would protect the magic users he was sure, but they wouldn't be convinced of that yet.

It would take time to earn that trust.

So, Heron didn't worry about it too much, and instead focused on laying the ground work that once they started being open with what they were, sorcerers – and other spellcasters – would be well protected.

The club that the knights had had, which had reformed and changed their name to simply A. F. C. after the reform law had been passed, were very helpful in this. He had an instant group to just have ready to help if any spellcasters came needing protection from people who didn't want the new law.

Though, the club had lost a few members apparently – Luth for instance had dropped out of it after the name change. The twins had both stayed in it though.

Heron still had no clue on what the letters in their name stood for – but he didn't really care either.
