Perched on the edge of the veranda Al smiles at me because I arrived home on time with fifteen minutes to spare. I sit next to him; my eyes fixated on the switch blades loosely gripped in his hands. He can kill. Will kill on these jobs he goes on. We go on. I am joining today. Part of me hopes we get a tedious patrol area.
Al tilts his head. “What’s wrong, Case?”
I flick my fringe. “Thinking about how switch blades suite you.” I stretch myself out. “Does my sabre suite me?”
“We’ll see today. I don’t mind if it doesn’t.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“We had totes different schooling.”
I will show him. Show all of Team Geordie I am capable of what they do. “Where is the rest of your team?”
“Geordie and Danny went to Cloud Association to fetch our assignment. Charlie isn’t here yet.”
