Ch 25: Grainger city

Mike is going to the Rock Gym for dinner with Flint and his family.

When he arrived, he was greeted by Brock at the gate. He arrives just before evening and the Gym was closed.

"Hello Brock! Good evening," Mike greeted after seeing him.

"Good evening to you too Mike, let's go inside." Brock then took him in. He was then introduce with Brock little brothers and sisters.

He had 9 siblings in anime but not yet. He has 3 now. His 2nd brother Forrest who was 3 years old, then his two little brothers and sisters who were 1 year old respectively they were Salvadore and Yolanda.

"You're so powerful, brother! You defeated Dad without losing a single Pokémon! You're the only one I've seen who can do that in their first battle. I want to be strong like you so I can be a Gym Leader like Dad."

Mike thanked Forrest for the compliment and told him that he thought Forrest could be a good Gym leader when he grew up. Mike encouraged Forrest to work hard so that he could also become a powerful trainer when he grow up.

"Forrest is right, you are one of the best trainers in our age group. I thought only Lance and Lorelei were the strongest young trainers in recent years of Johto and Kanto. I didn't expect you to be one of them now." Brock said with his eyes closed. It seems the whole family shares the same trait of keeping their eyes closed.

"Ah! I am not that powerful. I know them the young genius trainers of our generation from Kanto and Johto. I see the tournament match last year, that Lance was a very talented and powerful trainer.

He was able to train two Pseudo Legendary Dragonite. He was unlucky to meet the Champion and get eliminated. Even though he fought well." Mike replied.

"That was a very exciting match to watch. Then Mike what do you think about a little battle before dinner. I also want to see the gap between us." Brock said with a little excitement, he didn't have that mature mentality he had in the anime. He still was an 10 year old kid in this world.

Mike hearing this also want to fight and test to see what Rank Brock has reach, so he readily accept.

They then arrived at the battle field of the Gym again. When they were getting ready to battle Flint also arrived and decided to be the judge of the fight.

"If both of you are ready, please send out your Pokemon in 3,2,1. Go." Flint said as he countdown. With the voice fall Mike and Brock send out there Pokémon respectedly.

"I choose you, Nidorino." Mike send out his Nidorino for the first fight.

"I choose you, Onix." Brock send out his Onix at the same time.

Brock Onix was low Rare Rank Pokemon. The fight went as he was expected.

Mike start with Dig into a Brick break. Brock didn't have that much experience then Flint. So Mike was able to defeat him with a couple Brick break.

Brock next Pokemon was Graveler it was Peak Uncommon Rank so Mike was able to finish it with a single Brick break.

After the match Mike said." Although you train your Pokemon well. You yourself don't have much experience when it comes to Pokémon battle. So you can't bring out all of your Pokemon potential out."

"Hmm! Thanks for the advice. I will work hard." Brock have great mentality as he was able to regain his spirit immediately even after getting K.O by Mikes single Pokemon.

"What Mike said was right. Brock it was also time for you to begin your adventures. This way you have enough experience when you inherit the Gym and become a Gym leader like me." Flint come from the side after the match. He then advice Brock to also start his journey. This way it will benefit him when he eventually inherit the Gym in the future.

After the talk Mrs. Geon come and told us about the dinner. When eating there was small talk between Mike and Flint. Flint was mostly asked about how his father.

"So, Mike what do you want to do next. Which Gym do you want to challenge next." Flint asked after they finish dinner and Mike was already saying goodbye to them.

Mike is contemplating about his next destination and said. "Hmm. Next I want to go towards Cerulean city. I want to see if it's possible to acquire an Excellent quality Water stone from the shop there."

"Ah! I you want to try evolve your Poliwhirl into Poliwarth with an excellent quality Water stone then," Flint said after hearing Mike decision.

Mike then said to Brock who was also with them."See you later Brock. Good luck with your journey. It was very difficult first but later you will get used to it. If you need something call me. I signed up for this year Indigo league tournament so we can fight again in the tournament if we meet."

"See you later Mike. I will work hard and next time we fight I will become more powerful than now." Brock said and wave his hands to see Mike goodbye.

Mike then go back to the Pokecenter for the night.

In the next day. Mike get ready and start heading towards Mt. Moon road. He wants to go there before heading towards Cerulean city.

In the Mt. Moon it was possible to come across Excellent quality Moon stone. It will help with Nidorino evolve to Nidoking.

When he was passing by, he heard a trainer talking about a Rookie tournament that will be taking places in a town called Grainger town in a week.

Grainger town was a town north west from Pewter city. It was popular for it's Rookie tournament that take place there every 6 month.

The tournament host is said to be a member of Goodshow family. He was cousin of Charles Goodshow the Champion as well as League president and Pokemon league organizer.

The name is Nike Goodshow. He was younger then Charles. He was said to be an Elite Rank trainer.

Mike get al this information from the passerby trainer. He was curious so he ask them about the details of the tournament.

The price was also very generous. It was said that the winner can receive an excellent quality evolution stone from random and 1 million in cash. The second place can get good quality stone of choice as well 500,000 Pokedollars. The 3rd place can get some material to help there Pokémon with 300,000 Pokedollars.

Mike hearing the rewards get excited not for the money. This amount seems lot but it was nothing for a Pokemon trainer. What he was most exited about was to potentially finding a stone that he was looking for in this competition. So he change his course, and now heading toward the Grainger town.

It took them 4 days. This time Mike and his Pokemon get straight toward the town with no detour. So he was able to reach there with only 4 days.

The town was quite big for it to still called a town. The total area was 3 time more big then Bright town. There was many trainer who came here for the tournament.

Mike then went towards the Pokecenter. Where he could register for the tournament. In the front desk like always a nurse joy sitting there, registering trainer or help with booking room.

After some time in the line it was Mike turn finally. The nurse joy with a polite smile asked." Hello sir. How may I help you?"

"I heard there was going to be Rookie tournament. So I want to register myself for that. Can you help me with that!" Mike said then he scan his phone to check his ID. With this he can stay in the Pokecenter.

"Oh, The Rookie tournament will be held in two days. I can help you with the registration." Nurse Joy said.

"Then please register me for the tournament." Mike asked after hearing the date. It was resurging that he didn't miss the date as the trainers before didn't specify.

Nurse Joy then educat Mike about the rules of the tournament. It will be 1 vs 1 until 16 people left. Then the rest of the match will have 3 vs 3 format. If the top three can impress the judge they have a chance to earn Junior Rank trainer license. Even if they don't have required Pokemon.

Realistically speaking it was impossible. This was a big tournament so the winner didn't have Uncommon Rank Pokemon was impossible. So it can be said directly that the top three will receive there Junior Rank license.

He come near a phone booth to call home. He didn't tell them about his Gym badge so he can tell them now.

Tring..!! Tring...!!

"Hello who is this?"

"Hey, Lily it's Mike. How are you doing?" Mike replied."Mom, Brother is on the phone." Lily shouted running to her mother.

A few moments later...

"Mike, how are you. You didn't call for after you said you get toward Pewter City. You said you were going to battle the Gym leader. So what happened did you lose and that's why didn't call back!." Mrs. Mia said as she was about to give encouraging speech.

So before she do Mike start to said." No mom I win the badge. I forget to tell you guy's about it. I came to the Grainger town when I heard there was a tournament going here. So I was on the road and couldn't call back."

"Oh. Congratulations to you Mike! You finally get your first badge. I am so happy for you. Wait a moment I will call you father and share the happy news with everyone." Mrs. Mia said as she then being to call everyone to told them about this. They were happy for him as this was his first Gym challenge.

Mike then talk with his family for an hour. He was also able to talk with his Pokémon at home. He then went to the 2nd floor, after he get the lunch. He then get a quick shower and hit the bed, he slept instantly as he was on road didn't relax much. He slept for the afternoon and only wake up in the evening.
